While thinking about how to find the neutral ground in relation to desire, I have constructed a 3D model of what I would image could be a physical representation of a ‘neutral ground’. The inner walls of this box represents a space which is free from outside influence… Upon ones entrance into the white walled box, the individual must make what they will from it, not being exposed to outside forces, they will question their own thoughts and identities. But is it possible to completely detach from external influence?

Taking these pure forms, I intended to corrupt them with 'external influence'. I slowly poured coloured water into the holes at the top of the boxes, after only a few seconds the water started to ooze out of the bottom of the boxes, changing the colour and form of them.

I used white cotton to tie the boxes to form a mobile like contraption. The reference of the mobile to childhood, adds to the idea of purity and innocence of these forms.

Still working with the idea of a 'neutral ground', I thought about ways of showing a basic individual desire. These origami boxes represent pure desires, free from influence. They hold what we want the most. A delicate yet ordinary object.

The Neuroscience of Distance and Desire
In brief, this article explains how things we desire seem to be in closer reach than they actually are. When you desire something, you are so heavily motivated to achieve that goal as fast as possible that you misinterpret the actual process and time that is need to fulfil it. Desire can be seen as an all consuming force that takes over our bodies and fragments our minds, we become deluded into thinking that we are closure to our desired goals than we actually are, forcing us to act in irrational ways and being blinded by what we think is in obtainable reach.

This was my attempt at experimenting with the coding of images. The three photographs I chose were of World Leaders; Barack Obama, Julia Gillard and The Queen. I thought it was an interesting concept to explore distorting these powerful figures.
