The road to a released song is often long and has many moving parts. Just kidding, it’s all about butts.
We’ll be sending the full making of “Somewhere To Be” video to our weekly email list folks this Friday. If you’re not subscribed, here’s the part where I tell you signing up is free and that we share a ton of stuff there and not here, followed by something clever like “click here lol”. You get it. -H
PS: you can listen to “Somewhere To Be” here: https://www.lemonmerchantrecords.com/somewheretobe/

Immensely proud of this tune. It’s out today. I didn’t write any music for an entire year—I honestly wasn’t sure I ever would again—and when I least expected it, this one fell right out of the sky like a tiny little miracle. Listen links like Bandcamp and Spotify and whatever else are here. If you’re on our mailing list, we sent out some Bandcamp download codes earlier (btw, thank you to the folks who purchased it).
I may post some DL codes here later. I just want people to hear the shit, y’know? The rest of the record is just as loud and big and strange and delightful. Can’t wait to share more of these little miracles with y’all. -H

Going to tackle writing up tomorrow’s weekly email—the daunting year-end recap. In a violent fit of procrastination, I’m reflecting on how fulfilling tending to that garden has been over the last few years.
If you’re on the Aloud E-Mail List, whether for 20 years or 20 minutes, please know we appreciate you giving us the time of day every week.
And if you’re not on the list, we appreciate you too, but… IT’S BLISS. (Link’s on our site if you want to sign up. You can find it, I believe in you.)

Now that the album is mixed and I have regained headspace, going to dive into another Aloud project I’ve been putting off for a bit.
I recently found multitracks for a ton of lost songs from ~2003, some of which we used to play out a *lot* and inexplicably never did anything with. Sent one of these out to our mailing list folks a few months back and was very happy with the results.
Maybe this will go nowhere, but at this point in my life, I just wanna get it all out there, man. Music is great. -H

Nearly there
About half the mixes on the record have received the stamp of approval. Got to listen to a version of the whole thing last night. It's shaping up to be our heaviest sounding, most surreal, personal piece of work.
A tinge of fear about how it may be received, which I'mma take as a good sign. (Late night texts from Benny about the mixes and Die Hard are also good omens. Probably.)
Getting this thing made through lockdown(s) was a heavy lift and challenging at times, but we got it done and I cannot fucking wait to share more of it.
Next single out next month.

Mixes for the record have been arriving from Mad Oak over the last few days, and I’m horribly, terribly excited about how this next album is shaping up.
I can’t wait to share the rest… but wait we must. In the meantime, here’s a short vid on the making of “The Comeback Kid”.
Music is a miracle.

PS: full version of this vid—with more bird-flipping, doggos, and thoughts on lime flavored Skittles—is available for our mailing list folks. Check your inbox or join up.

Was just reading on Marissa Larusso’s Substack about Metonic cycles. And while it hasn’t been a span of 19 years, it appears I’m moving back toward trying to mind several gardens on several social media sites.
Re-enter: Tumblr. Let’s see how long I can keep these spinning plates up in the air.
This is our latest single, “The Comeback Kid”, which only came out a few weeks ago. It’s the first off our next album Apollo 6, which we’re expecting to release next Spring. Like a lot of folks, we figured out how to make it happen over two-ish years of being under some kind of lockdown.
It’s different from Sprezzatura, which is different from It’s Got To Be Now, which is very different from Exile… you get the idea. We become bored and restless very quickly.
But I remain very excited about this next one.
Speaking of: if you’re interested in any free Bandcamp codes for this single or Sprezzatura, let me know.

Listened to a podcast of The Garden Tarts with Arion Salazar (possibly the kindest, most thoughtful person in rock n’ roll).
Amazing episode on his experiences touring with U2. Can’t imagine how epic that must’ve been for a young band (to say nothing of concurrently touring with the Stones at the time).
Big takeaway: kindness is free, so be generous.
I’ll be listening to Pop for the rest of the day.

We still had a Tumblr. Who knew?
Nothing like the apparent collapse of another major social media company to remind you of other places you planted a flag on (and have subsequently neglected).
Anyway, we’re still around and doing our level best to continue the Work. At lot’s happened since the last time we posted here and right now.
As a token of goodwill/an apology for allowing this channel to languish, here are some free Bandcamp download codes for our latest album, Sprezzatura. I’ve been peppering the internet with these download codes all weekend, like a demented Santa Claus with a keyboard and a Bandcamp account.
We released Sprezzatura at the beginning of an ill-timed pandemic, so it unfortunately never received a proper tour. Still, immensely proud of this one. Guy Massey mixed this—which, holy shit, pinch me. (He’s a very nice bloke who is very good at what he does.)
First come, first serve. Redeem ‘em at aloud.bandcamp.com/yum, then the album is yours forever.

We needed folks to act like total assholes for the "Live TV" video shoot this weekend, and our friends delivered. But seriously: thank you to our nearest n' dearest for putting up with costume changes, a hot apartment, and helping us see this video through. Can't wait for y'all to see it. 2013's going to be great — I can feel it. -H (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzZTFPvAFv8/?igshid=1if24y9isun78

A few pics from our gig this past Saturday. Many thanks to everyone who came and (as always!!) to @ojodeloba for capturing the evening. Next show's in the works… it'll be a doozy. A humdinger, even! -H (at Van Nuys, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/By5bseGAubR/?igshid=ls204xoxk30y

Photo shennanigans from earlier this week with @ojodeloba at @nicoandbullitt, who was kind enough to allow us to take some promo photos (and shhh… for our upcoming album's sleeve art) at the store. We first learned about Nico and Bullitt not long after moving to town. A couple employees saw us at @littlejoyla wearing our @madcap_england threads and it was all downhill from there. Hands down, one of the coolest places in L.A. to both buy some neat stuff and meet interesting folks. -H (at NICO & BULLITT) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxz558Zgw5P/?igshid=wfv77yyj2qhn

#TBT — They say you can never go home again, but here is photographic evidence this old adage is patently untrue. (Thank you, miracle of human flight.) Thanks again to @oldjackmusic, @lizardloungeclub, and @ajdasnyder for having us back and the quality hangs. Big ❤️ to our lads Andy Bergman and @ericortiz89 for getting brassy n’ sassy with us. -H 📷: @askani97 (at Lizard Lounge) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxQY-dNAjvi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=qk6a42p9vfjj
