I look

Across my cup of tea

You reflect a dozen times

Back at me

Smells of pasta and seafood

In the air

The sky outside is grey

And dull

But my world here

Is so bright

It was the new year

We walked together, hot coffee in our hands, snow and ice at our feet,

I was scared she'd slip,

I wanted to hold her hand

hold her steady

I wanted to hold her hand

It didn't fade once we made it safely inside

I wanted to reach out,

As I felt this love blooming,

Of course I loved her,

A best friend,

Whose hand I wanted to hold

I asked her if I may,

And I did.

Later she laid her head in my lap,

And I knew I was in love

This two bedroom apartment

Every morning seems like a bright day

I almost can't believe it

I try to find words to explain, to say

How much it's meant to me

You fill up my heart

like a sky full of stars,

of clouds,

of sunshine

And all I want

Is to reach out to this light

even if I have to close my eyes to do it

I longed to see myself transformed by love

Like a missing ingredient,

A fruit out of season

But I knew eventually

It would grow for me

The little spoon

Perhaps it is silly

but I’ve always preferred the little spoon, or have a favorite

my love noticed

and I noticed

that she always uses the big spoons

and saves my favorite for me

and I learned

how much love

can fit in a small spoon
