Ok so Edwin’s family was definitely wealthy but i’m curious to know what the fandom consensus is on what kind of upper class family the paynes were.
I’m not sure if the comics have a more specific backstory other than st hilarion’s original being for high ranking military families but the show strays pretty far from comic canon anyway.

"You mean to… slay the minotaur?" "Told you it wasn't my best idea," said Charles.

I am seeing the fandom run wild with fem!Payneland and Edwina or Edith Payne and I would like to gift you all some 1915's-1916s dresses that would suit her. Go forth and flourish!
My decision parameters under the cut:
So, my parameters for choosing were:
English or available to the English in the period 1914-1916. I don't think Edwin would be wearing the Height of French fashion nor only new dresses every season, so stick with more practical dress (no fun evening gowns, but i might do that at some other point)
Only girl's clothing, not grown women. Edwin dresses very much like a dead Boy detective, not a dead man detective and I want to preserve that
Keep an element of blue as his hero colour
It should preserve elements of his original design, in practicality, bows, collars and colour
Sources are in a reblog so tumblr doesn't think the links are spam.

do you ever just think about edwin saying "given that you said [clears throat] that you hate being dead" and charles just laughing sadly under his breath and saying "you've been holding onto that one haven't you" like this is something that's happened countless times before, edwin just remembering all the little things charles says when he's not thinking clearly, all the little things that were never meant to hurt but do so anyway, and then he just digs them out later and presents them to charles primly and calmly like they're in court, except edwin remembers them because they hurt and addresses them because if he doesn't they'll just fester like open wounds
and charles? charles doesn't get mad. charles doesn't even seem annoyed.
charles smiles at him, takes the conversation seriously, is sweet and honest and reassures him with "if it had to be this way i wouldn't wanna be dead with anyone else, would i"
because even if edwin never said it, that's what he was worried about, that charles hating being dead means he hates being there with edwin and charles just understands him instinctively and immediately and tells him that he's wrong and that edwin's his best friend and always will be
and look i know we harp on about them not communicating but like that right there? the kind of communication and soul-deep understanding that comes from spending every day in the past thirty years together
and i just think it's beautiful

still thinking about the implication that the stairs to hell weren't the first time charles and edwin have said "i love you" to each other because of how easily it comes to charles.
"i love you too, can we go now?" on the steps to hell
"i love you too, can we go now?" on their way to meet a client
if you even care at all

Do you think Edwin feels like a sort of camaraderie towards 1910s/1920s ghosts (they're bound to have met a lot of them given WW1) or do you think they make him feel more out of place ans isolated? Do you think he ever helped a fresh faced 18 year old from the first world war and saw someone who understood or someone who managed to squeeze two more years out of the same life than he managed? Did any of the tortured veterans clawing at their gas masks have the face of one of his classmates

CW// SA, Neil Gaiman
"Innocent until proven guilty" does not apply to SA because the law simply does not work when it comes to SA. You cannot throw around "innocent until proven guilty" when every part of the criminal justice system is designed to find the accused "not guilty". This is why we instinctively believe survivors, because sitting around and waiting for a legal verdict is not going to bring us any closer to the truth. The whole "waiting to see if it's true" approach also doesn't work. SA allegations almost always boil down to one person's word over another (noting that often and including this case there exists a power imbalance between these people). In the absence of being able to trust the criminal justice system to find a "truth", we only have the words of the survivor and the accused to make up our minds, which for a public case like this will likely only be made available via news reporting. And all I have to say on that is that the criminal justice system is certainly traumatising enough to deter false allegations.
It might seem radical to throw the law out the window and instead conduct a trial by public opinion, but it is certainly not more unjust than our current legal system.
Also: valid to criticise shitty methods of reporting from a TERF website. NOT valid to use this as a reason to be sceptical of the allegations (they literally interviewed Gaiman and his response alone is disgusting enough. They could not simply have made up his words thanks to defamation law).
All this to say fuck Neil Gaiman, fuck the criminal justice system and believe survivors.

hate how much the fandom credits the show’s entire creation to neil gaiman. he made two characters in 1991 and barely touched them ever since, STEVE YOCKEY made the show’s version of the boys inspired by TOBY LITT’s comic books. give credit where credit is due
