Ok so, a hot take I have that League of Comic Geeks hates is that this design? Kara in the superjacket??? It's everything over the classic design. I hate the skirt design for her now because holy shit this is a cool design!!!

Listen I'm not a big fan of this run, but it'll be hilarious to watch the people still complaining about Damian replacing Tim if we get another new Robin. I doubt it, but it would be hilarious.

ALRIGHT BITCHES. WE BACK. HES BACK.
MY FAVORITE HERO IS BACK YALL
Off the bat, the cover is beautiful but the redesign SUCKS. It's just close enough to the original for the changes to just look wrong.
The cover IS a nice homage to his original mini, so I can't complain there, but redesigning a mask that has importance to his character is... Odd.
Perfect interior art imo. And Roubpheap is here and.. I definitely didn't shed a tear over Chord being dead... Nope...
Kicking screaming crying forgetting batman ever existed. The Taylor-Chord family never being used is why I settle for the Batfamily being my favorite. These pages are so good, I missed Dwayne, I missed Roubpheap, I'm glad they're dealing with Thrash's survivors guilt.
When this was announced I was terrified they'd assassinate the characters but so far Sil is as strong and badass as ever, Dwayne still is Dwayne at his best and worst... It's perfect so far.
Reading further ahead, a gang of kids rob a gentrified area of Harlem, Dwayne tries to catch them but the cops detain him because... Y'know ... He's black. And that's what cops do (hoping we see Midnight's Fire some how return but who knows) I do enjoy when Superhero stories tackle the themes of the struggles of the oppressed, from the perspective of the oppressed. I'm a huge Milestone fan and this makes me feel right at home.
Also this is what leads Dwayne to start considering not shutting down the Foundation, to be able to play the system against the cops and systemic issues THROUGH the foundation. Batman comics could learn A LOT from this book.
They've maintained Silhouette as a core character which I love. I love that she's as bad ass as the 90's made her, it really makes me mad that we don't get representation like her anymore. Tho on the next page Dwayne just starts listing off teammates who... Aren't in the picture? That pic is rage, Microbe, Sil, Thrasher, and Firestar. The next page he lists Donyell, Namorita, rage and microbe which... I mean sure, but the inconsistency is odd, and what about Speedball?
Rage is the BBEG! Interesting, he's not like... Evil evil. But he's the antagonist here which like... This guy was IMPORTANT to the original Warriors run.
The sins? Of his past?? IN THIS ECONOMY???
Ok ok, no onto the Sihloette back up!!!
It still hurts to see Chord like this, having grown up reading New Warriors omnibus from the library CONSTANTLY. I'm so thankful they're focusing on the family dynamics here.
That's basically all of the issue. It's everything I could have asked for. Everyone is here that should be, it's dealing with exactly the themes of hope for, and everyone is characterized perfectly. I adore this book. I'm definitely going to try to find more of Holtman's work in the future.

Alrighty! New characters to read.
I've NEVER heard of the Wonder Twins really, maybe in passing but I have no clue who they are. This cover is incredible tho.
The opening is weird. Not sure why they chose it, first page is just announcing a hamster died.
Again, lots of questions here, no answers, but it's page 5 so... I guess. Wonder Woman is speaking really weird here but hey who said women were humans.
Ok, answers. I like the dig at Batman's adoption habits here! As well as the second page humor. Do far though there's nothing here that's really interesting. It's mostly just name dropping and humour.
So far the thing that's peaked my interest the most is Young Justice advertisements. That looks like a banger team. Zan's power display here is... Another joke. It's not that I'm against humour this book just feels unfunny.
Oh yeah, part of their race's thing is they get REALLY HORNY in thunder. ... Idk if I'll keep up with this series.
Yeah, finished issue one. I have all 12 issues. Over all not great. I don't care about the characters, the humour is... I mean it exists. The themes of teenagehood feel awkwardly pushed in, and there character design feels like someone made their jock friend make a sci-fi OC. Overall kinda disappointing. I'll definitely try a few more issues but I don't really care about the book so far.

Legitimately so much of the batfandom is this, I promise you the characters are way more interesting in canon, plus you actually need to know more than 4.5 men from the canon.
the "canon isn't real we make our own rules" to "i am begging you people to revisit the source material" pipeline

Continuing!
I like that Dick is also returning to his roots as Nightwing. :3
Oh hey! By the way, apparently that wasn't Tim.
Anita took his place and stirred the pot. I will say, I'm sad that wasn't Tim BC I really actually enjoyed reading Tim in the modern era for once, but hey. It's fine. Anita apparently is just a bad ass. And she took down the weakest robin. Oops. Oh well.
And that's the end of the issue, another amazing issue imo. Seeley really has a gem here that I think most people missed because he characterizes the Robins in a different way than normal but, honestly, I think they're very much in character! Nothing ever feels like a major character break, and there's a fan-level of reverence paid to canon in this story. Anita maintains her position as a character I want to see more of, and the art is great! Amazing run so far!
Reading Robins. I know it's not popular but I've been enjoying it so far.
I managed to ask Seeley about what inspired Anita during an AMA and he said he wanted to flip the script: everyone's told stories about the bad of being a Robin, nobody talks about the bad of not being a Robin and that's what she represents. It's meant to show being robin in a different light than we're used to.
An interesting page.
An interesting show that Anita has tucked herself inside the Batcave and has access to everyone's secrets. I do think that Damian here is doing sibling joking over threatening, this book has been really focused on the familiar bonds so...
I do appreciate how much Seeley is presenting Dick as the experienced, smart one. But also giving Steph experience and value on the team!
The silly tone of this book does wonders for it.
Of note here: they're technically here to save some villians that Anita kidnapped to use as live bait for the Robins. This leads to:
The most beautiful panel of Dick EVER. Plus seeing Tim removed from Bruce and being far more morally grey and ready to not save the bad guy. I do think this is pretty damn in character for the guy. I do appreciate Rivas delivering some amazing art on the second page, fucks expression capture the mood perfectly. However I really am interested in the point being dragged up here: Tim's argument of the rules of robin being defined by being Dick is really interesting.
Genuinely some of my favorite Tim in a while. He's not perfect, he's not the bestest boi of the batfam: he's hit headed, he thinks he's invincible and perfect, hell he thinks he can beat the rest of the Robins in a fight. He's the teenager here! Pure stupid testosterone teenager! Plus you see a hint of the fact that this guy is the only one who actually has privilege to throw around. This feels VERY rich white boy the way he's acting in a way that I think most people forget. Over all Seeley captures Tim in an aspect that I wish we saw more often.
Additionally, we see evil-Tim™ pop up from under the surface. It's no secret that in most futures Tim becomes an evil Batman who kills anything that gets in his way and I can't help but feel like Seeley is hinting at that future here.
It is important to note that this takes place AFTER Zdarsky's Urban Legends 1-6, which means Jason is actively currently trying to make amends with Bruce, and viceversa. A reminder to that Jason often is portrayed as the mirror to Batman, with Bruce often describing Jason pre-death as a happier, kinder version of himself. Even after, Jason tends to mirror Bruce a lot more than the rest of the fam bar Cass. I think there's something to be said there about how Tim made this big deal about Damian telling him he'll never be batman, saying he'll make sure the criminals die, and Jason being the one specifically to stop him.
Also AGAIN with Steph being shown to pull her weight on the team! Look guys! It's the bare minimum that we ask DC for!
I hit image limit, sadness. RB coming.

So, I had the issue of having like... 200 issues in my backlog. Completely unweildy amount that led to me being to overwhelmed to really go through them, plus I got a ton more to add to the problem. So here was my solution:
Each month I decided into 4, and so my entire backlog has been turned into 3-4 issues per week per year! Much more manageable!

Easily Frank Miller. Everyone made him out to be Alan Moore for conservatives. I was REALLY interested in reading DKR for that fact! I might not agree with the politics, but I am interested in seeing the anti-Alan Moore. What I got instead was some of the poorest writing I've seen in a comic book. No character development, no pacing, no through-line of plot, just writing that commits the gravest sin of not having the decency of being even comically bad.
I will say, imo Waid is the vanilla ice cream of comics to me. I won't complain, and I think there's some cool stuff he's done, but I also would choose a lot over his work.
Also Tom Taylor, though he's more like boba to me. I don't like his style but I kinda understand where the appeal is. He's not great, but I'm aware that it's a personal preference.
Are there any authors that like you hate or dislike not because their writing sucks but because everyone talks about how amazing it is they're like "you've got to go to this restaurant the filet mignon changed my life it's like if meat was butter it's so perfect" and then you actually get to the restaurant and order the perfect filet mignon amd it's a 3 dollar Mcdonald style hamburger. And you're fine with those hamburgers you've eaten them before and enjoyed them, but you were expecting filet mignon!

So, I read the Valentine's Special from DC this year, and it was good. I only really remember two stories, Guy Gardener's was amazing. I love when his character is explored and they did a lot with his character there. The OTHER story I remember was the dickbabs story. Do I ship Dickbabs? Hell nah. But I flipped through the story anyway and guess what happened?
Doesn't Barbara get a call from Steph mid-date asking for help BC her and Cassandra got hit by fear toxins on their paired up patrol.
Their patrol together on Valentine's.
That's just what they did on Valentine's. Spend it together.
They're never beating the lesbianism allegations.

Latest comic haul, thank god for my job as a server and the INSANE sale the LCS had (50% off all comic collections)

Aight so, trying to be more active on here to talk about comics, so let's start now!
Had a huge haul today, saved a ton with my job and then a LCS had an insane sale going soooooo
First book I'm reading tonight is from Amalgam Comics, the studio behind classic characters as Logan "Dark Claw" Wayne.
It's all OC's that are combined versions of DC and Marvel. I only found one so far, and here it is!
It reads as Liefeldian as the cover makes it look. It's fun to see the combo characters but it's deep as a kiddy pool. Thank god I'm a fan of Liefeld's work.
As I said, Liefeldian.
The writing is terrible but DAMN if Edward Fisk aka the Big Question (kingpin-riddler amalgam) isn't an AMAZING design
Shout out to all 5 seconds of screentime Nathan Chase gets
As someone who loves Liefeld, GOD this feels Liefeldian. On a different note though, this feels extremely gay between Slade Murdoch (Rose Wilson-Dardevil amalgam. Idk why it's Slade.) And Elektra Kyle (Elektra-Catwoman amalgam)
I'm not showing the panels here but Fisk just tore Date's horns off??? It's like... REALLY gorey. Way more than I've ever seen from the time or even from DC-Marvel as a whole??? I didn't even realize she had horns?
Never mind??? He killed her by pushing her horns in??? WHAT THE FUCK
That's basically the end, Elektra beats Fisk to shit for killing her definitely-not- girlfriend. This book was wild insane. Was it good? No. Would I read more of the characters? Probably. It does hint that Dare didn't die die but... DAMN that was weird.
I really like the idea of Amalgam, I think if DC and Marvel got along again we could have a really cool return of this stuff, my taste for this would be 4 books, 2-2 between publishers, and have teams of talent that have worked with both pantheons.
Over all the book is shit but really cool. It's terribly paced, terribly written, and the girls are sooooo overly sexualized.
