Lyra, my beloved cat of 13 years, passed away this year on Father's Day. She's been by my side through very difficult times and was my little rock of steady and unrelenting love. I struggled a lot drawing this, and struggled a lot posting it, but I know I would've wanted to read a comic like this that validated my grief for her when I lost her.
Wherever you are, Lyra my little summer star, I love you always! Thank you for being the best thing in my life.

Wait, what's wrong with show Percy x book Annabeth?
Is it personal or?
As mentioned on the [post in question]: it's about fandom racism.
Essentially it's kind of a red flag to have a specific bias for both show!Percy and book!Annabeth specifically, together, because the implication from that is you have a preference for white, light-eyed, blond(e) depictions of characters over their other iterations where they do not have those traits in combination. The reason that's a red flag is because the whole "white/blue-eyed/blond(e) is preferred/better" thing is a white supremacy/racism thing, cause that's the whole "aryan race" stuff and it's all very bad.
So having a specific preference for show!Percy over other iterations of Percy claiming that he's "better" somehow because he's blond and has blue eyes (an actual thing I have seen claimed VERY FREQUENTLY 😬), and/or that book!Annabeth is better than movie! or show!Annabeth because she's blonde and white and has light eyes, are not great. Like, you can have a preference for any depiction you like, but specifically those two in combination with each other raises some questions, and ESPECIALLY claiming those depictions are "better" than other depictions of those same characters with different traits is a MASSIVE red flag. Also the fandom being blatantly racist towards other depictions of the characters, particularly non-white depictions, is not great. (And yes, I have witnessed it happen with both show!Annabeth AND book!Percy depictions.)
tl;dr: It's not about just having two blond(e) characters like apparently a lot of the comments misinterpreted (that has nothing to do with anything and is fine, i literally dont care). It's about choosing specific depictions of the characters in combination with each other over other depictions that do not have those traits and claiming the white/blond(e)/etc depictions are "better" than the other depictions. Because that's bad and racist.
Hope that helps.
#it's been a reeeaaallly long time since i read anything pjo related and i didn't even watch the show because i was too busy#but i distinctly remember the latino percy headcanons#and how the fandom prided itself on the inclusivity of the characters#(inclusivity in mid-2010 metrics at least)#so it's actually upsetting to see how far the fandom has politically regressed

“I told myself if I ever won a Grammy and I got to stand up here in-front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off artists would offer a liveable wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists… labels we got you, but do you got us?”- Chappell Roan during her GRAMMYS acceptance speech.

This Black History Month, reflect for a moment on the fact that George Washington Carver, famously "the inventor of peanut butter and more than 100 industrial uses for peanuts" wasn't, like, Doc Brown fucking around in his garage because he really liked peanuts but was specifically trying to introduce larger use of a nitrogen fixing legume into crop rotations against cotton monoculture which was destroying yields, livelihoods and the biosphere, and how most agribusiness farming now just destroys that topsoil on purpose and continues to grow a cotton monoculture (or soy or corn or whichever local monoculture is profitable) using petrochemical derived fertilizer, which is one element driving climate change
Daniel Hale Williams performed the first successful heart surgery. He also founded the first nonsegregated hospital in America because he was keenly aware of disparate health outcomes by race which is still a problem today.
WEB Dubois was a part of the delegations for the birth of the UN. His proposal to include in the charter that "the colonial system of government … is undemocratic, socially dangerous and a main cause of wars" was not adapted for the final draft. We might see inaction against colonial violence to this day as part of the failure of others to heed his warnings there.
I feel like so often when we look at Black History Month so much of it is driven by factoids but when taken as history in context its about a direct line from decades and centuries to what is happening right now.

was reminded of that youtube channel that records footage of that bridge that scalps trucks today. one of the fascinating developments that's happened since i last heard about it is that, in one of their many attempts to stop the trucks from being can-opened, they installed a traffic light that detects when a vehicle that's over the allowed height is coming and turns red so the driver can stop and hopefully notice the signage all around that's screaming "YOUR VEHICLE IS OVERHEIGHT TURN AROUND" and avoid an accident. However as a result sometimes drivers see the light turning yellow and IMMEDIATELY start flooring it to avoid having to stop, ensuring that the roof of their truck just gets fucking annihilated instantly. Really beautiful stuff you should check it out
