AV: Look, you know my feelings on vigilantism as a solution to the world’s problems.
AV: Which is why I’m absolutely not offering a safehouse to you or any of the others involved in the riots.
AV: Don’t bother messaging me over Signal at this same number for details.

AV: Emotional insights, primarily. Glimpses into one’s mental state, etc.
AV: I was never very good at it otherwise.
alexanderofnyc:
AV: It’s really just reading expressions, but on a tiny scale.
AV: I suppose it has something to do with reflexes, but I’m not certain.
ZZ: well, yes, that’s self explanatory from what you called it but what does it tell you?

🎟
When I was about twelve, my family moved to New York. We settled on the Upper East Side. I guess it was a nice enough building, though it was a little too far east to be one of the ritzy parts. The closer you get to the East River, the less Upper East Side it actually is.
I don’t want to go into too much detail, but the first thing I put up in my brand-new American room was that old poster of Captain America punching Hitler in the jaw. My father... was not a fan, to put it delicately, but every time he tore it down I taped it up again, until eventually the whole thing was practically laminated and he couldn’t tear it anymore.
I wish there was a greater purpose to this story, but the truth is just that I wish I were still that twelve-year-old boy. Or, rather, that I had grown into being someone that twelve-year-old boy could admire.

AV: I suspect I have some kind of dampener as a counterbalance to the ability to read facial twitches and so on.
AV: Though it may perhaps be just the way it rubbed my head wrong when I tried to look into it.
AV: Even polymathy has limits.
ZZ: what sort of things can you tell from that anyway?
ZZ: t’s all just a feeling, really. or another sense? i don’t know, it’s kind of an ozone pre storm tingle for me, but i’ve heard others say magic makes them nauseous too and a couple other tells
ZZ: nerd :p

AV: Well, Loki, obviously. AV: I have to admit that my detection tends to fail where magic is concerned. It must not be in my particular genetic makeup.
ZZ: mhm
ZZ: some people are more sensitive than others, and some aren’t at all, it’s just a matter of luck
ZZ: i’d guess it can be trained, but i’ve never really had to try

@silvcrmans
the only difference between the situation of mutants and humans was that esther had accepted that there was little she could do about those situations. the woman had suffered multiple times at the hands of her father and knew full well what humans were capable of but enhanced individuals were capable of the very same but on a greater scale. they had the ability to hurt people with ten times the impact and she was afraid of that. no, esther had no reason to hate mutants; she was using them as a scapegoat for her own pain and trauma. this was her chance to take some control over how things should be. in an ideal world, no one would have to suffer.
“exactly. all those things that you just listed, they’re capable of all that and so much more.” the politician was not one to get weepy eyed when people spoke of their own tragedies, apart from when harvey had talked to her about his but she had been in a vulnerable state. all she had ever felt was vulnerable, POWERLESS in a big, bad world that was never going to reward her. “and i know better than you give me credit for. i am not a foolish individual.”
“I’m beginning to doubt that self-assessment,” Adrian said, a little coldy.
He flexed his hand at waist level- the scarred one, with the bullet wound in his palm. Two of them now, actually. He’d had to reenact the shooting for proper effect, though of course Esther didn’t need to know that.
“Where does it end?” he asked, much more firmly this time. “God damn it, where will it end? Believe me, I’m not fond of this reliance we as a culture have formed on the cult of the cape myself, but what you’re suggesting will require a special committee to investigate everyone in the country-”

AV: Oh, so it was. I’m sorry to have missed it. I’ve been… busy. AV: And good lord, you’re not kidding. I’m glad I still split between here and New York, to tell you the truth, so I don’t have to deal with that nonsense. AV: That’s… alarming.
ZZ: it’s alright! Not really a big one, had drinks with my crew and some old friends, got dinner at that fancy new french place, hung out with di
ZZ: you hadn’t seen? it’s bizarre and there’s altogether too many magic vibes among the three of them

ZZ: at least she’s not one of the contenders for mayor? tho that group is. pretty wild as is, to be honest
ZZ: so so
ZZ: my birthday was last month so my current funny story to tell people is that my psychic friend sent me an antique pocket watch with no note explaining anything at all, in a totally ominous and in character move for her

AV: I’m still having to accustom myself to thinking of myself as “like us”.
AV: I suppose it’s better than feeling anomalously freakish, at least.
AV: And in any case, I feel somewhat duty bound to deal with her.
AV: I’m not unfamiliar with dangerous zeal to save the world.
ZZ: i guess technically we’re not in the same specific group, but it seems to be the powers she hates more than how someone got them, so
ZZ: how do you plan on doing that? she doesnt seem easily swayed
ZZ: ah
ZZ: i guess not

AV: And suggesting it’s foolish of me to avoid funding this project in favor of that sort of thing to boot.
AV: Pardon my phrasing but the woman is out of her head. What she’s asking for is a police state.
ZZ: well it sounds like she’s definitely got some sort of self righteous stick up her ass. that’s so… narrow and single minded
ZZ: i’m sure she’s not alone in thinking that’s the best way to contain people like us. it’s ridiculous

AV: I don’t mean to be crude but one really wouldn’t think anyone named *Esther Miriam Silverman* would be this invested in a national genetic and political registry to monitor certain citizens, and yet here we are.
AV: She certainly blustered as such when I pointed out the logistical folly of the type of database she’s gunning for. It makes that wall 45 was shouting about this time last year sound like a kitchen remodel by comparison.
ZZ: 😬😬 yeesh
ZZ: mandatory genetic testing when there are people starving and people houseless and people suffering under medical debt??

AV: Nothing yet, aside from some rather persistent badgering that I gather my arms for her crusade.
AV: I have a feeling I may have acquired a nemesis.
ZZ: why on earth does she think you’d be a good target for that? she seems very anti uhhh you in general. besides the rich white part i’m sure that appeals to her political senses
ZZ: oh see when you put it like that it sounds exciting
ZZ: do you really think she’d do something?
