V shrugs, stalling for time by taking a deep drink from her bottle. “Didn’t wanna be alone, I guess,” she says finally, looking anywhere but at him. “An’ sure, you might not’ve been here, but— Well, place smells like you.”
“Antiseptic and motor oil? That my signature scent?”
She scoffs, meeting his eyes for a moment and finding them unreadable. ‘Course, the shades in the way don’t help. “Safe. This place feels… safe,” she corrects, hating the tremble in her voice.
