Briana Boston faces terrorism charges and CEOs are getting free therapy
Tumblr media
Briana Boston is a 42 year old mother of three from Florida who is under house arrest for expressing her frustration at her insurance (which she PAYS for) who denied her claim. She owns ZERO guns and doesn't have a criminal record.
She was originally held in prison for $100,000 bail. They have not dropped the charges and she is under house arrest even after widespread backlash.
They are trying to charge her with terrorism. They want her to spend 15 years in prison.
They are calling her a Luigi Mangione copycat. As if she killed someone. She made a indirect, not at all credible threat.
Meanwhile...
Tumblr media
I want every woman who has ever faced threats online, stalking, etc to bring this Briana Boston up at every opportunity. Every time you were told by police that there was nothing they could do, know that they not only CAN do something, but they WILL do something, just not for you.

one of my opinions (that seems niche and trivial to cis people, and maybe even a lot of trans people, but I genuinely take pretty seriously) is that we need to stop comparing penises to vaginas as "complementary" structures.
there's this thing where most kids are taught "boys have penises and girls have vaginas" (if they're taught terms for their body parts at all), and even the sort of progressive "trans inclusive" version is like "some people have penises and some people have vaginas."
and I just find it such a rhetorical slight of hand to imply a greater difference between bodies than is actually there.
the penis is not an analogous structure to the vagina. the penis is an analogous structure to the clitoris. if we compared the two, we can much more easily understand this is the same structure that may form in a diversity of ways (e.g. the length, whether the urethra is routed through it, whether or not it is set in a downward position by the surrounding tissue or whether it is only connected at the base, etc.).
similarly, a vagina is not analogous to the penis. the vagina seems much more analogous to the areas of the inguinal canals and perineum, the space in the body that external genitalia can be "tucked" inside of. if we compare the two, we can more easily understand these structures (e.g. not articulating the vagina as an "open hole" but as an area that can accommodate something within it, without being permanently changed).
the way that we constantly pair vaginas with penises in order to make sexed bodies seem more differentiated than they actually are is ideological. it's like saying "men have hands and women have breasts." like sure, that's true in many cases... but women also have hands and men also have breast tissue. why are these traits becoming emblematic of legal/economic categories? what does the exclusion of women's hands and men's breast tissue do to our understanding of the body in general?
(side tangent--and sure, you can say "but penises fit into vaginas" "but hands can fit around breasts" absolutely! those realities don't change by acknowledging they are different parts of the body. penises also fit into anuses and hands also fit around butt cheeks. you can use body parts in many ways. it doesn't mean they need to be used that way, can only be used that way, or is more "natural" to use them in that way than in any other way.)
there are many people who don't even realize they have a clitoris, and I feel like it's pretty much exclusively trans women and their lovers who are aware enough of their bodies to engage in muffing and such. we are denied information on using our own bodies by what parts are erased as "irrelevant" to procreation.
in my opinion, this constant pairing of vaginas with penises as "complementary opposites" creates the impression of a more dramatic difference between "sexes" than exists, and privileges a procreative heterosexual understanding of sexuality over all others.

Airplane and Cucumber are so funny from Airplane’s perspective.
Imagine you electrocute yourself to death and are reborn into a fictional world which you created into the body of a cannon fodder character you half assed the writing of so badly that even you, the author, have no idea how he dies or how he even meets the demon he betrays everyone for, and then decades into trying to dodge your own death flags you meet some other isekai victim and it is an obnoxious anti-fan who used to comment on your chapters just to complain about your writing and be gay about your main character.
This is not the weird thing. The weird thing is that you remember this guy. Somehow out of the two of you he’s still not the more pathetic person in this equation because of course he knows you, you wrote the book that is currently very important topical. But you also know him.
At minimum forty years after dying (I think?), you’ve led a whole stressful and busy life learning to cultivate and handling the logistics of the largest sect in the world, you can barely remember the particulars of the novel you wrote and are now living in, but you do still remember internet user Peerless Cucumber and his bitchy little comments.
Shen Yuan what the hell did you post?

Wei WuXian loves the Cloud Recesses and always did.
But like how I keep seeing portrayed, not just for Lan Wangji or Lan Wangji's sake.
He always describes it as beautiful, peaceful, calming and serene. He feels relaxed there. At peace. From his first moment arriving there, the Cloud Recesses was a haven to him and he loves everything there.
Even the rules. Even Lan Qiren.
Yes, he challenges and pokes at both, but actually looking at how he interacts with them when he's complaining and whining belies the dramatics.
He's testing his limits. Every complaint and every outrageous moment in class is a test, a question to the Gusu Lan in general and specific. How far can I go before I'm punished? How strident and serious are these rules? How are they enforced and applied.
With Lan Qiren, Wei WuXian says a heretic thing, then runs out of class without proper permission. His punishment? Detention and writing lines. He helps someone cheat. More detention and writing lines.
I have no doubt a subconscious part of him was getting in trouble that often because it let him have hours alone with the cute boy he was equally as subconsciously besotted with, but Wei WuXian was deliberately pushing the line farther and farther until he found where the punishment fell.
He was comparing it to his treatment by Madame Yu.
And in that comparison, he found Lan Qiren a grumpy, but deeply kind and gentle man.
The same with the rules.
He exclaims over them, and fandom does as well, for the sheer number, but in all honesty the rules are most often just common sense.
"No running in the Cloud Recesses". Find me a place anywhere in the world that doesn't have a no running rule. Anywhere you go you'll be told at any age to not run unless there's an emergency because you could hurt yourself or someone else or cause an accident. And there's no punishment for breaking the rule, only a very grumpy elder scolding you to stop.
"No shouting/loud voices". Again, find a place where that isn't a common rule. And again, a scolding is the worst Lan Qiren is going to dish out.
Then there's the big moment where Wei WuXian DID cross a line - going over the wall and shoving Lan Wangji to go with him.
I would bet real money that Wei WuXian lost count of the number of times he and Jiang Cheng and a bunch of shidi were out lazing and Madame Yu caught them and he and he alone was blamed and beaten/whipped black and blue as the instigator and at fault.
From his dialogue, Wei WuXian wholly expected to have found both the point of physical punishment and the chink in the Lan clan's fairness facade. He thought Lan Wangji would hide his own involvement and spare the both of them. When he was dragged into the hall he started making noise about how Lan Wangji had been over the wall too, expecting him to be spared.
But that isn't what happened.
Without hesitation or complaint, Lan Wangji knelt beside him and took the same and more punishment, and equally without hesitation the other Lan beat their second young master.
This moment proved both Lan Wangji's unique and outstanding goodness and morality to Wei WuXian (and is IMO the moment he fully and completely set aside his heart for Lan Wangji and no one else without knowing it), but it also proved the Lan Clan's earnestness too.
Yes, someone like Su She would have not said anything so they both wouldn't get in trouble. Yes, Lan Xichen would have been generous and let it slide. Yes some other Lan might have let Wei WuXian alone take the blame and avoid punishment themselves. That's why Lan Wangji is singular.
But the clan also proved singular in that no one protested "oh, no, we can't punish our second young master!". Lan Wangji said "hit" and they hit.
There is a real, sincere fairness to the Lan Clan Wei WuXian has likely not seen anywhere else.
Then of course there's the comfort in the rules.
They offer a kind of stability Wei WuXian has clearly been craving.
Take the oft remarked on "you can only have two servings at a meal".
Wei WuXian was a street kid who knawed on discarded melon rinds, ate food off the street and did battle and lost with dogs in a desperate attempt to feed himself.
He exclaims over the "only two portions", but I think this rule stuck out to him not for being restricted as he says, but how generous it is.
You are guaranteed two portions of food.
If you are with the Lan Clan, you will never starve, this rule promises. You will always have your fair share and an extra portion if you are hungry.
That is a powerful promise to someone who once went without.
The times we most see him protesting the rules or being in the Cloud Recesses is when he's putting on a show - as a teen establishing his bravado and when he's trying to avoid being identified and acting like a lunatic.
Given even a moment to himself, he's looking around at the environment and sighing in contentment over how beautiful and peaceful it is, and even remarks on the rules are more fond than anything.
He loves Lotus Pier too, but when he talks about it he talks about how fun things are and the stalls and foods and people and places AROUND the place where the cultivators live. We see him frequenting everywhere BUT the actual place the Jiang's live. And he's forever leaving it.
Lotus Pier is familiar and beloved, but the Cloud Recesses is home, peace and comfort and the place he will always return to to Wei WuXian and he speaks of it and subconsciously treats it as such from pretty early on.

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful

honestly the deepest burn on Lan Xichen isn't any of his actual failures of political will and so forth
it's that he spent the war hauling ass and getting shit done only for that gang of 12-year-olds playing Sunshot Campaign to not even bother to include him.
