Depression, anxiety and panic attacks are not signs of weakness. They are signs of trying to remain strong for far too long.
Mental health is a proper illness which takes over a person’s life slowly to a point where they do not know how it all started. It is scary, creepy and building up over time. Tiny little things change at first that lead to huge changes. Things that give you joy no longer are a part of your happiness. You start wondering how you ever enjoyed those things. It gets harder and harder for you each day to get out of your bed. For you passing every second gets hard. You start feeling so low that every single thing around you is annoying you.
The urge of doing such small things gets hard and the pressure to do anything gets even bigger. It is often said by people that you should talk to someone about your feelings, tell them how do you feel but how to tell someone when you yourself can’t understand how do you feel? How to tell someone that you want to live your life but you don’t even know how to? For you your life decisions are no longer a choice but a compromise.
Mental illness involves changes in emotions, thinking or behaviour of a person. It is common however treatable. The vast majority of individuals with mental illness continue to function in their daily lives. Majority of the people are not even aware of how common mental illness is. Depressions, Anxiety disorders, Schizophrenia, Eating disorders, bipolar depressions, Addictive behaviors etc are a part of mental illness. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness.
They are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment.
Mental health does not only affect your mind but also your body. Not being emotionally well can lead to heart diseases, high blood pressure, weak immune system etc. Depression alone can just cause insomnia.
Now knowing that mental health can have such hazardous effects on your mind and body, we need to accept the fact that mental illness is a proper illness and we need to own it up. And by “we” it means the entire society. You do not need to be ashamed of being in depression, anxiety or any other mental illness. Speak to someone; give yourself as much time as you need in healing. Most importantly allow yourself to seek help from a professional. Things do get better once you allow them to be. Hence support others and yourself in fighting mental illness and become a better version of yourself.
Would you post this on your wall for just a day? Most people will because they understand and support those who have been through it, who are going through it and have even been through it themselves.

Lets share support for mental health awareness and show those who are suffering that they are not alone. 1 in 3 of us will suffer with this at some point in our lives and will need love and support.
