really helpful technique ^ once you know how to divide by halves and thirds it makes drawing evenly spaced things in perspective waaay easier:

what I really like about all these vintage couple’s portraits is that there is a very certain romatic decorum kept up – certain themes and poses – which, while of course being the mainstream preferred view of couples repeated throughout many studios, are just… so nice to look at. 

this staged affection, a mix of theatricality and intimacy, the couple holding still for a couple of moments and now immortalised in a very set sequence of embraces and kisses. there is a charm to it even when I can’t tell whether this was a genuine couple portait or just actors hired by the photographer.

the kiss on the bare shoulder (eyes perfectly averted), the cheek caress, the piano and the violin, the interrupted embrace, the woman tilted back as in a half-stopped dance…

if you want to create but feel intimidated and overwhelmed, you're forgetting something: good art doesn't exist. all art is terrible. every story and song and movie and picture is worse than the one before it and all artists should be in prisom

I don't know why I'm so obsessed with this but

The idea of Jayce resting his forehead on Viktor's back, eyes closed, face slack, arms around his waist or bracketing his thighs

The idea that Jayce doesn't see him as weak or unable to carry burdens, the trust of knowing Viktor has the strength of catch him when he needs it

I mean I know the height difference is a thing so Viktor standing, maybe, and Jayce sitting on his rolly stool

And there's no acknowledgment or pressure or pestering, what's wrong, what is it, just this quiet affirmation of "yes, you can rest here, as long as you need, I've got you" that passes between them without words

Jayce needing to not be seen in that weak moment but needing comfort from Viktor too badly to let the opportunity pass him by, and Viktor knowing this and giving Jayce what he needs--maybe just a gentle touch, featherlight on the back of his arm, I'm here, I've got you, rest, love, rest

Jayce taking strength from the determined line of Viktor's spine, from the rigid press of metal and vertebrae under skin and clothes, reassurance that Viktor is still standing strong

I don't know it's just. It's so tender and vulnerable and I can't stop thinking about it
