BlackStar Canyon- Orange County Paranormal Adventure
Friday night I went with a group for the OC Ghosts and Legends. This is a paranormal adventure that happens a few times a year and this is a group of people that go in the canyon with EVP and EMF meters and see what ghostly encounters take place. This group was a total of about 15 people. We arrived at the parking and meet up spot at 7:30 and the walking tour began around 8pm. The walk into the canyon is a good half mile before you begin to ascend into the dirt trail going in the canyon.
As we walked in there is a large tree in the middle of the gravel walk that is said many people get an odd feeling about the tree. I didn’t feel anything and nobody in the group did either. As we walked into the canyon there was a tree known as The Poltergeist Tree. It was a very large but dead oak tree, the tree it had fallen to the ground or had been cut down earlier that week as it had been there on recent prior tours. Kind of an awkward situation and a bummer as this was the BlackStar Canyon OC Ghosts and Legends mascot.
As we walked further into the canyon the temperature became colder and the night got darker. Of course the vibe was getting more eerie. We stopped at a few spots and listened to paranormal stories. Many times you could hear branches breaking and rustling in the bushes in the distance but did not see anything. At one point my friend noticed a short dark figure move across the road from right to left. It happened so fast and she was not able to make out what it was. After this our tour guide told us a story about seeing a similar creature on an earlier adventure at the exact same mile marker location. The group stopped at the spot to see if anything was happening. Nothing was taking place but I was getting a very uneasy feeling about the spot.
We moved along and then came up to a old covered mine shaft. The mine is completely covered by a roof-like material for safety and the are no holes to get to it throughout the structure. We stood around the mine for a while to see about any activity. We heard a tapping and scratching coming from inside the structure. Everyone in the group heard this and it was pretty creepy and there was no explanation as to what was causing it and no animal would have been able to survive inside as there is not a way in or out.
We walked further up the road and over a bridge that gave some people in the group a feeling of dread. I felt a bit of anxiety at the spot as the tour guide told us a story about what happened there on a prior tour. Apparently, one girl had a vape pen ripped out of her mouth by an unseen force and at the same time another person in the group saw a man in the creek below wearing a red and black plaid shirt and went running up the creek and out of site. Nothing else was seen or heard at this spot.
We continued on and then brought out the Paranormal Equipment. We stopped at a dark spot in the road near an old creepy tree and set out the equipment and one person in the group was listening to the headphones for EVP activity as the rest of the group started asking questions. Some of the questions were receiving answers on EVP and others were not. The spirits seemed to want us to stay there as some of the answers were indicating that. The meter equipment I was holding was detecting some activity and the lights were flashing at various points. I got the feeling the spirits want to interact with people but this was not a particularly active night.
On the way back I was holding one of the EMF meters and it started to light up and become more active at one point. Just as this happened the tour guide’s Spirit Box turned on by itself from his backpack and was really loud.
We got out of the canyon and into the parking lot at around midnight. There was on car that pulled into the parking lot and saw the group of us as shadow figures and stopped… backed up and then turned around and sped off like they were terrified. Pretty funny! A few minutes later a souped up Jeep followed by two old Camaro’s and drove into the parking area. The guy in the Jeep looked a bit weird and was a bit of redneck and was yelling from the car to the group that “Nobody is allowed in this area after 10pm and that it is private property”. I have heard about some of the over-zealous locals being protective of the land. I think they may have too much time on their hands.
