Rape Crisis in Germany

On New Year’s Eve, over 80 women reported sexual assault and muggings. It was deemed a crisis when the reports didn’t just stop at 80. 

The stories of the women are also strikingly similar. They were with friends, when surrounded by a group of North African/Middle Eastern looking men. Women were groped, raped, and then had valuables stolen. It is estimated that over 1,000 young men are committed these crimes. Three suspects are in custody at the moment. Cologne and Hamburg have currently been deemed unsafe for women.  These attacks have been linked to the recent influx of Syrian refugees, although the Minister of Justice wants to avoid scapegoating a group of people.
