A quick sketch book jot down today whilst the little was content trying to roll away, this is a total of 5 minutes before she tells me she's tired and can't be bothered lifting her own head any more. I cherish these five minutes I have to just doodle. However most of that time is looking up and telling her "your so clever." I have an idea for my next painting (for whenever that time arrives) and I just had to try to remember it and start experimenting with line and materiality, this time my crusty old ink wash pen that has been overloved by @euan_boyd_art. Since having my bubs a few months back I sadly haven't had the time to start many fresh works. When I actually have a spare few minutes to paint as soon as I get my palette prepped someone wakes up and wants to play again. I don't blame her because I would too it's just a shame that she's too little to get involved. However the maternity break has been a great time to sit, stop and reflect, as well as re-evaluate my creative goals and where I want to go. Being a breastfeeding mum means I have a lot of time to sit and stare at older works in our studio apartment and realise that maybe they're not finished and or how I can resolve the piece. I painted this one for my partner when we found out we were with child and with the pressures of uni assessments it was always sort of "finished". Recently I repainted most of it, filled in the blanks and added some dot work, and now I feel that is finally finished. Happy international women's day!!! This text and image based illustration is an older work from 2015, however the message is still as relevant today as it was then. Although since 2015 my journey has changed and I have grown so much as a woman I have come to truly realise how amazing and powerful the female form really is. It feels like lately that the word feminism and it anything and anyone associated with it is a forbidden and negative term and it as if it should be shunned and those should be punished or ashamed. This is not a world I want my daughter to grow up in. Feminism is about equality for everyone and that no person be marginalised madd to feel as less than because of gender, sexual preference or skin colour. No person should be made to feel ashamed about who they are.
