Hey guys! I know I haven’t been active lately and this isn’t The Boyz related but I really wanted to share about a 7-year-old girl I met in Bangkok named Maki. Her dream is to be one of the greatest pianists in the world. Ever since mid-2017, she’s been busking on the streets every evening to raise enough money for her piano classes.

Maki would play the keyboard continuously for 6 hours straight, sometimes taking a sip of water or snacking a little bit in between songs. Those breaks were barely a minute long.

She was always under a lot of pressure trying to raise money for her next piano lesson, especially when the foot traffic slowly dwindled and her earnings each day decreased. Sometimes people would walk by without sparing a glance at the pair, as though they were invisible, and Maki can’t help but wonder, “Am I not good enough?”

But she was still determined and kept playing. I admire her ability and dedication to stay focused even as her body grows tired and exhaustion kicks in. Every time she turns back to look at her mum, her mum would give her a comforting smile and Maki would continue playing with a lighter weight in her heart.

If you’re wondering why she busks on the streets to pay for her piano lessons, it’s because her mum doesn’t earn much working as a translator online and cannot afford to pay for her piano lessons after the first 6 months. Maki feels proud that she’s earning money through her talent and skills, and I applaud her for working so hard to achieve her dream.

That’s why I want to help her as much as I can. With this crowdfunding initiative, I hope to show the rest of the world what she’s capable of and help her to raise funds for her future piano lessons.
