Production Standards (?)
For this assignment they ask me to go to to a large clothing retailer and try a different pieces in the same sizes to compare the “standardized” fits.  To be honest, I don’t even need to go to a store. I've lived in this body long enough to know about what size in which store fits and which does’t, so I may as well write from my life experience rather tan one trip to one store.
My body lives between the normal and the plus-size sizes. I’m tall (for Mexican standard), my hips are wide and I have big boobs.  Living in the Kardashian era you may thing this is awesome but most of the time its just… exhausting.
Being tall means some items may look shorter in my body.  Big boobs means if I wear anything with a V line means cleavage(!)  This can be annoying when you’re walking down the street and either getting cat-called or judged. Wide hips means sizing up in pants. Wide hips doesn’t always mean big butt, and that’s how you get that extra gap of fabric on your lower back. (Oh, and by the way some of us just don’t like stretch in everything we wear.)
I’ve learned that shopping in Uniqlo or Zara will do damages to my self-esteem for a days. I’ll never fit on a size L. And if you want to get sizes from XL - XXXL they asked you to shop online. You know, because how dare you being fat and walk into this store? Shop from your coach like a the morbid fat person that you’re.
Going to Old Navy will make me feel good. I fit on size L but I’ll have to look for neutral norm-core pieces that don’t look like Soccer Mom Apparel and pay extra for it. Target its the Mecca to feel normal. They’ve embrace normal bodies, giving me relatable pictures of Barbie Ferreira looking amazing and dresses that actually fit. Online Mecca its ASOS. Their size 14 or 16 will fit me and I can buy it from the “normal people” line or I can rather go to the Curve section to actually get the picture of how it would look in my body.
Everlane has mastered the art of denim and delivered jeans that fit, without stretch (thank you), and with a crotch that:  a) Doesn't get this annoying little fabric balls after the first time you wear them.  b) Doesn't rip after a month of use.
I could go on and on about this subject, like I said, after living long enough on your body and crying a few times in front of a mirror you get wiser.  In conclusion i’ll say that standard sizes doesn't exist.
Because there’s not such thing as a  “standard body”.
