Roger Moore was my Bond. He was the one I was issued at birth and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I loved him so much.

His first 007 film and one of my favorites, Live and Let Die, came out the year I was born. His sixth Bond film, Octopussy, was the first 007 I saw in theaters. And his (record-breaking!) seventh Bond film, A View To A Kill remains one of my favorite all-time Bonds no matter what you coat-hangers say.

Every report was that he was just as much a gentleman as he was a jokester. He seemed to adore living and so it’s too bad that of all of the official 007s, he went first - and on a personally selfish level - on my birthday no less. But I don’t mind because I care less and less about birthdays and more and more about memories. So let’s call today Roger Moore Remembrance Day. Go put on your favorite Roger and have some laughs, because that’s what his seven films were especially about.

Or in light of all that’s going on in the world, go to UNICEF.ORG and give a little to the children, like he gave so much. I certainly will.

Someone once asked him how he’d played the role of James Bond. ‘The same as all of my roles,’ he said. ‘I played him as myself.’
