Hasan al Basri رحمه الله said:

The heart becomes corrupt through six means:

1. Committing a sin in the hope of repenting

2. Seeking knowledge and not applying it

3. Practice without sincerity

4. Eating the sustenance of Allah without appreciating Him

5. Not being pleased with Allah’s allocation (destiny)

6. Burying the dead without learning from them.

Once Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) saw a Bedouin man leaving his camel without tying it, he asked the Bedouin “Why don’t you tie down your camel?” The Bedouin answered, “I placed my trust in Allah.” At that, the Prophet (ﷺ) replied, “Tie your camel first, and then put your trust in Allah.” - Narrated by al-Tirmidhi
