I think that instead of ending punctuation marks being a dot defined by what’s above it, we should have a line, with the length (technically height) determining the intensity of the emotion/tone, and the amount of curve determining where it is on the statement to question scale.

This would allow for variability in what the punctuation mark is implying. Solving the problems of:

1. More enthusiast than a period but not as enthusiast as an exclamation mark

2. Don’t have to do !?, unless you want to go for the specific tone of ??!!!!!??!!??!

On the keyboard, I propose that the regular punctuation marks stay as keys, but there is also a way to change them from the defaults. Also, the period would not be a dot, it would be a short line, so you are able to italicize it to conveniently imply a little more emphasis.
