My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart? I don’t know. Neither do I.

If the characters on screen (that is several different characters and often more than once per episode) bring it up and explicitly point it out, why aren’t we allowed?

Instead of a voiceover...
Disclaimer: I’m assuming an ending that’s purely Platonic ™. But I hate a voiceover epilogue regardless of situation or context, i just urghhh, it’s so urghhhhh Anyway, i’m not trying to change anything else, just—-
How good would it have been for it to be like John and Sherlock picking the skull out the ashes and putting the headphones on it. In the background the room full of workmen blurs and as Sherlock puts the skull on the wall it pulls back and we see 221B restored and full of different people.
Mrs. Hudson’s got glasses in her hands, Lestrade raises his like “Cheers! Here we go again.” and it’s clear they’re a weird little family. Sherlock’s got the baby. Mrs. Hudson’s delighted. “My boys back in Baker Street!”
Molly’s there, a bit shy, but she and Sherlock have a little eye-to-eye. He looks abashed. Mrs. Hudson says, “Though I hope you’ll try hard not to blow it up again, really, twice is enough.”
Molly says, “I’m sure they’ll do their best.” It’s clear she and Sherlock have reached an understanding and the incident is forgiven. “Anyway, they’ve got to be here. Where else can people go to?”
“Oh yes, the last refuge for the hopeless.” Wiggins comments, dryly, pretending to be sarcastic, but he means it.
There’s a photo of Mary by the knife stabbed through the stack of letters, the top of which has a reminder for the next time Sherlock visits his sister. Maybe he looks at it and we see that bit with the Holmes family concert. Back to Baker Street, John takes Rosie, looks around, satisfied.
“What’s next then for our legendary duo?” Lestrade asks, teasing. “For the famous Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson?”
John’s playing with the baby. “Don’t know,” he says. “Have to wait and see.”
He catches Sherlock’s eye, they smile. It’s going to be an adventure.
Roll Credits.
#this would have been so much better though#actually showing them as human characters#what a concept
