alright actually another post for three more repurposed OCs

again these doodles are basic and kinda lazy

this is my repurposed interpretation of cube for my jsab ask blog, north. also referred to as north star! their design got changed all the fucking time so Im not pulling up an old design as reference. not settled on this design, at all.

i think my main problem right now is that I don't have a specific bug out of the pool of bugs starweavers are based on that I want to base their design off of. that one on the right is not any specific moth, and that second one I cant even remember what they were gonna be.

some starweavers have wings, some don't. I'm also not sure whether or not I want north to have wings. as for the lampshade-like accessory, that's a basic idea I'm throwing out there and experimenting with. starweavers inspiration involve types of bio-luminescent bugs (like glow worms) so I thought about including shit like lanterns and lampshades in their designs if that makes sense? another idea I had for these elements was possibly masks. due to the very existential nature of concepts of space and its worship, obscuring the self might be a cool idea imo? but I don't think I want their masks to cover their WHOLE heads, I'd like to be able to see at least their antenna. though they have stranger head shapes so fitting a mask might look weird. maybe I'll try giving rover a mask? since they're the guardian gifted from concepts of space

as for north themselves. they're a quiet and rather introverted starweaver, who is talented and caring individual despite struggling to properly express it. if it weren't for eleanor and cordelia, they'd probably resort to isolating themselves their whole life. they grew up doubting themselves and their abilities constantly and its something they still haven't quite gotten over. they do question the more depressing beliefs of their worship but almost never express it. they were chosen as rovers caretaker, mentor, and guide.

north is one of the many reasons rover is a strange case compared to other guardians. there's three types of beings in paradise- mortals (normal individuals of the four races, self explanatory), guardians (individuals created by the concepts to protect paradise, can be of the four races, only up to four guardians exist at a time), and the pillars of concepts (immortal beings who don't exactly fit into the four races, theorized to have lived longer than the four races) typically, guardians are born (being formed by the concepts in a specific area of paradise associated with that guardians associated element), they live about a little longer on average than normal mortals, and then they die, and the next guardian of that concept is born. usually, a pillar is chosen to raise a guardian when they form. their attunement to the concepts allows them to know which one is chosen as that individual pillar is guided to the area the next guardian is formed.

north, however, is a mortal starweaver. but they were VERY much chosen to raise rover. mortals physically cannot handle the level of communication between the concepts and the pillars, so instead of serenely and calmly being led to the area rover formed, north ended up experiencing the guidance of concepts of space like a horrific revelation and an insatiable urge to follow this internal force. very funny but anyways this sudden change has shocked the islands of paradise. some theorize it is an omen of something terrible, some believe this change is needed. north can barely handle the pressure of being the first ever mortal to raise a guardian but they're doing their best for rover.

the nickname "north star" was given to them by the pillars, they have varied views on north individually but one way or another they believe north is a guiding light for SOMETHING. also yes north got to name rover! they believe in exploring the unknown rather than cowering and letting it make you feel small, so they chose the name rover in hopes that rover would be a curious wanderer (and they were!)

alright NOW we get to heli. or I guess its eleanor now. alr so ever since I had the idea to try and file off the serial numbers off of my jsab characters (since I was like... 16? ish?) I always had a clear idea of eleanor becoming a dragonfly-inspired creature. but given how unfinished this sketch is I think its very clear that I have no direction here..... maybe I should go look at other peoples bug characters. I need inspiration I think. my biggest problem thus far is that I feel like my designs have looked pretty uninspired except for the mammals. OH OH ACTUALLY IDEA IDEA I drew this before I got around to doing cordelia's design in that last post maybe I should build off of that. have them compliment each other and all.

not much to say rn, eleanor makes flight trips around the isles of paradise and cordelia ran water-bound deliveries and ferries from island to island. I'm not sure how I want their relationship to form now? I gotta rewrite a backstory for them. I do like the idea of north being the one to introduce them to each other though. I love those trios where theres 2 idiots in love and the fucker whos important to both of them. wheres that one post that's like "there are 2 souls who are reborn over and over and will find each other over and over again in each lifetime. there's also a 3rd guy... we don't really know what he does" that. I like that

alr lastly I have blitz aka my blixer interpretation aka fresh yadda yadda yadda. however I cannot find my most recent drawing of his old design where he doesn't look fuck-ugly so what everrrrr its not like it matters his concept is SO FAR REMOVED from my original plans. he's not even the main antagonist anymore

i feel like he looks too much like silver from pokemon. and I don't like that. :(. he's a domestic cat like ophelia however I'm wondering if I should make him a different kind of feline. don't ask about that big design he got fucked up its okay. its also not done. clearly. bottom sketch is after he becomes that thang. that's what happens when you get an all-powerful object sealed to your head on PURPOSE you IDIOT. trying to work on giving varied hair to non-female characters tbh I think that's why he looks like silver. boy why you so angry 11 year old you're 17.

don't have much nailed down for him rn so that's all I think. only requirements for his designs is that I need him to be lanky, scraggly, and obviously have something wrong with him. also he needs to look like a wild animal. don't ask trust me on this

trying to get a feel for the mammalians still? idk my rules on their hair is weird so far, i dont want just The Girls to have hair. but oh well i only ended up designing girls anyways. two of these are repurposed ocs so ill add their old design here too

these are a liiiittle lazy. so this first one has no second arm

this is cordelia. like the main four, she is a repurposed version of my interpretation of boat for a jsab askblog i never got around to lol 🥀

i shipped her and heli, who i also plan to repurpose as a starweaver named eleanor! once i get around to designing them....

the continued pirate motif stays cus thats pretty definitive. not entirely settled on her being an otter buuut i like where this design is going, i feel like her shape language makesher stand out, however i feel like her design lacks something that makes it feel personal and she feels like she has a more general pirate design.

i think the main issue is i haven't decided on whether or not she actually worships mind or if shes a mammal who doesn't- I'm leaning more towards her worshipping mind though. if i go this direction I'll have something personal to add based on rules about mind (ill talk about it later). the basic idea is that while her nature is rooted in the water as an otter, she embraces that as something that makes her feel alive as she was born for the sea, however she is restricted in this as the isles of paradise- while they have a lot of space- are protected by a magical barrier that prevents people from leaving or entering. theres only so much sea to explore....

she, eleanor and north (a starweaver that cares for rover- they are my repurposed interpretation of cube) are all friends! she and eleanor are like aunts for rover and they love the kid a lot, however they do not have kids.

alr next up we got moss, a repurposed TFH oc!

i forgot her mushrooms Oops ill think about adding them back. her original concept was her being naive and too curious about problems bigger than her- ungulate relations, the rise of the predators, etc. she believed that she could try getting the champions to work together on finding the key and set out as champion of the swamps, however she'd soon find that she'd have to fight them to defend her beliefs- and figure out whether she naively believes in cooperation or if she really believes it. she had plant-related magic that could be used somewhat like velvet but i didnt want her to be a zoner.

onto her new design- not settled on the hair LOL also i forgot to give her her old eyelashes. shes a moose calf whose had a bit of a growth spurt so shes about as tall as a full-grown adult like ophelia despite being like. 13. because Megafauna. she might still have her plant powers? her clothes feel a little too general however she isnt a Major character so eh. her first designs had a moon necklace so i added that back in? i might do something with it.

as for what she's holding- i thought about the kind of clothes i gave spirit and i felt like i should try following some of the basic ideas i had. i gave spirit an armored shoulder pad, so i thought maybe i should make that a common practice amongst mind worshippers. so, moss is holding a helmet! the idea is that families in mind have armour heirlooms that are passed down to remind current generations of everything their ascendants did so they could live today. children receive a piece of the full armour set. i know im building AROUND the designs here and thats a bad idea but i prommy it will not continue. i might not restrict it to just pieces of armour? depends on where i want to take this idea. helmet looks basic here cus im still figuring this out.

i dont have many ideas planned out for her but heres what i have so far: moss is the firstborn of her family, and has a lot of expectations to live up to despite not fully understanding them- she was chosen to inherit her families most important heirloom- the helmet of the first in their family name. she is still naive and more concerned about rising tensions in paradise, but she doesn't get to worry about that rn LOL. her family, as they live not far from the grove where the plantfolk and percivals guide reside, provide percival with a consistent place to stay between the two areas.

moss is somewhat planned to be involved with percival. they both have the same type of powers and they both grow antlers. i say this because percivals whole thing is that he accidentally hurt a plantfolk kid growing up because he was still young and not fully in control of his abilities as a guardian, and this not only caused him to withdraw from kids his age, but he's avoided his training and using his magic since then. he feels like he might be dangerous and that he doesn't want abilities that can be used to hurt others so badly. this problem is only exacerbated when his antlers start growing in. he is encouraged to continue training, but only with the promise if learning to control himself. he will have to learn that what happened was an accident- but he is not dangerous. his magic is a gift given not to him- but to the people around him, to protect them and help them. due to the twos similarities, they often find themselves working together, whether they're being taught by plantfolk in the grove, or occasionally receiving training lessons from moss's family. still working out specifics however.

this one isnt a repurposed oc. hell this isnt even an oc at all! this is a barely finished concept sketch! lemme explain though

alr so as seen in rovers most recent doodle page, with his weapon being a hockey stick, hockey exists in paradise. rover plays it and its like, his favorite thing. there isnt much of organized tournaments or competition with it though, its more of a casual game especially in the colder parts of paradise. however he DOES have a group of friends who all became friends because of rover and their mutual love for the sport. this is one of many things that makes rover stand out as a guardian amongst their siblings and predecessors, because rather than being just a somewhat distant pillar of community in their worship, they are also just. a normal mammalian teenager with friends who likes a sport.

im not sure how many people i want to be in this friend group yet, nor do i have.... any clear ideas for individuals. most I've got is i want them all to be from the four races and thats about it? after designing the previous two i decided to give designing another mammalian who'd be from this friendgroup a shot. i. did not enjoy it..... i do like how this rabbit girls ears came out though. dont think I'll use her. i need to think more about specifics i think

alright so. hi everyone (7 people) I'm gonna elaborate more on the base writing I have for each race (calling them species feels weird idk why I'm still doing it) in that OC universe mentioned in the last post

alright so before we get into it. there's four main concepts worshipped in the lands of paradise (that's right baby. I filed off the serial numbers but the shits STILL called Paradise cus I don't have any other ideas for now). for the longest time I've had the idea that all four have a god spearheading them but now I'm wondering if I should do that or stick to the idea of it just being worship of the concept, because there are many different ways of practicing your worship in some cases. but anyways

first, there's the concept of the mind- sapience, consciousness, identity, psychology, philosophy and what it means to be alive.

then, there's the concept of time- history, the present, the future, the general passing of time, how we let our past determine the future, etc

next, there's the concept of space- the great beyond of outer space, the planets and the stars of course, but also the physical creation of the earth itself and what forms the lands on earth. a lot more existentialist than the other concepts

and finally, there's the concept of nature- the plants and animals, the environment, survival, your place in the natural cycle of life, and the idea of maintaining balance in a chaotic world.

each race and the folklore surrounding them has inherent ties to one of the four concepts, but that doesn't mean every individual from that race inherently worships the concept they would be related to. its a case by case thing, and I'll get into that with each race

mammalians - these are just furries LOL. we only have mammals here sorry. the folklore of the mammalians is that they existed as the animals we know today, but were unsatified by their lot in life. there was always that small desire that there was more to life than just surviving as they always had. so as they questioned what else they could become, they began their great evolution and Became Furries.

as you can see this piece of lore inherently ties mammalians to the concept of the mind; but of all the four races, mammalians as a whole do not largely worship that concept. most of them do! but the rest worship one of the other 3 concepts. very few do not worship anything at all. this is because the idea that every animal was on the same page and that's what's caused the great evolution is often contested, because everyone wants something different out of life.

and lets talk about that a little more! while practices of the mind are personalized and all over the place, the general focus is self-identity. finding your way in life, who you are, what you want to do with yourself. you were born lucky, with the free will to shape yourself, so in order to honor that, you must find what makes you feel truly alive.

also. sidenote: like all furry-based media you're probably wondering how the hell prey mammals and predator mammals coexist. that's because there's entire species of mammals that never evolved like the mammalians, and instead evolved into different animals as the great evolution changed everything kinda like how humans are the only species out of all mammals that evolved the way we did but we mostly eat them. carnivore mammalians don't have to worry too much about instincts because there's still wild animals to feast on. in modern times if a mammalian eats another mammalian it is still considered just straight up murder because You're Both Living People and you took away that persons inherent right to live, for incredibly selfish reasons too.

you may have noticed, hey, wouldn't the folklore of mammalians and it's inherent ties to the concepts of the mind have conflict with the concepts of nature? so lets get to that

plantfolk - the plant based people, they're mostly based on flowers but I miiiight use inspiration from all kinds of plants? still debating it for Reasons. their folklore is still being worked out but like. my current idea is that during the great evolution, the unevolved plants ended up taking over at some point due to the sudden shift from the mammalians causing carnivore and herbivore populations to fluctuate at random, and it threw everything out of control, so nature had to find a way to keep things balanced for the time being. hence, the plantfolk were born to keep the balance during this time.

because it's the only reason they exist in the first place, they believe it to be their ultimate purpose, and its why they believe in keeping the balance and are content with their place in the cycle of life, versus the mammals who desired more than constant survival. because of these beliefs, the plantfolk are more inherently tied to their concept out of all 4 races. you'll rarely see a plantfolk that doesn't worship the concepts of nature in some way (I say, when the first ever plantfolk I designed was a plantfolk that worships the concepts of time). in fact you'll rarely see plantfolk stray from their community and live on their own- their practices keep them together as a community.

my ideas for their culture are a little more solid so i'll talk about that too- their communities believe heavily in the idea of communal living and taking a village to raise a child. every adult pitches in on taking care of the kids in their community and teaching them the skills they'll need later on in life. teens (typically mid-late teens) continue to learn the advanced skills, but they are also gradually taught how to take care of the kids around them and how to teach them so they can fulfill those expected duties as adults.

as for them being carnivorous as a whole the reason for that is Im Going Off of Slime Rancher Logic here don't ask. so they farm livestock as well as hunt for food, but they also know how to farm and maintain unevolved plants. why you ask? they believe in maintaining the balance of nature the best they can so its one of their many practices! like controlled burns and shit! also its for commerce and trading lol.

so since the folklore behind the plantfolk and mammalians origins and the ideas driving some of their beliefs clash, you may be wondering- is there beef between the two races? well. bestie there's an entire cow. in the age that the main story for this universe takes place, thankfully tensions are low, and are generally used as a lesson to not let your beliefs destroy the idea that the people around you are alive. but there's still conflict here and there

starweavers - the bug people! specifically, they're based on species of bugs that can spin silk (with some creative liberties, like including velvet worms). now just based on the name you probably think they're meant to be aliens but they are NOT aliens. I might lean into them looking alien in the sense of bugs just Looking Like That but I def dont want them to look out of this world. their ties to their concept are sort of a middle ground between mammalians and plantfolk.

I still don't have the folklore for them down at this point. but there is a basic idea that they've already existed before their concept came to them. I'm not sure how but I want the concept to come in as a sudden reveal of the true expanse of the universe and just how small everything is here on earth (hence the existentialism). I feel like it would be thematically fitting for the race most associated with space to have some sort of cosmic horror be the basis for their beliefs. and everything that comes after that reveal is a desire for understanding, to know more of the universe so far out of reach.

as of now I know I want their stories to be told through constellations. they talk about constellations like they're made of webs of silk. their silk-spinning patterns should probably determine the aesthetics of their clothing but other than that I have no clue how it'll look. I only really have one major character who is a starweaver... I gotta expand on them.

unnamed, rock, mineral, and gemstone based people - alright this is the race I have the LEAST info on other than a few concepts, but nothing is set in stone (lol). they don't even have a placeholder name...

they're related to the concepts of time. still have no idea how they should come to exist. as a whole, they're the most unnatural species because they're mostly made up of magic that keeps them together. but, when they die, they settle their bodies to become part of historical ruins and allow the magic that kept them together to become part of those ruins. so yes I guess this would mean any historical landmarks probably have piles of magic corpses protecting them but its natural for them. plus the idea of protecting history for future generations is something they feel obligated to do!

i suppose I make them sound very steven universe-esque in concept (they do have glaring similarities, some can grow to be huge, many of them have absurd lifespans, they're mostly magic) but there a lot of differences, and they DEFINITELY do not look as human as the gems do. in fact, next to the 3 non-human races in this post, I imagine they'll end up looking the least "human-like", or "living". many of the OCs that fall into the category of being part of this race were originally mechanical in some way or just straight up automatons, but I had to phase out the techno stuff because otherwise this universe would end up being a mess. and I still have no idea what they should look like..... all I have so far is I want to avoid making them out to be like golems and like. that's it.....

oc stuff. alr so this particular universe has four sentient species of people and so far ive only designed characters in One of them. that being the mammalians (basically just furries) but now im trying to shake off my lack of ideas by taking the age old "Just Get Started" advice. with a random mash of ideas. to see what will stick

this particular species of people ive been referring to as "plantfolk" and i think that name is self explanatory. since this is basically my jsab askblog story rewritten for the umpteenth time but with the serial numbers filed off you can guess what their one and only inspiration is (its the wiggly cactus guys. so yes my oc-ified interpretation of lycan would be part of this but shes Not in this post sorry)

designed one character in particular named primrose, who wasnt based on anything jsab related. shes ophelias love interest, but she's also a particular plantfolk? she felt alienated by her people's cultural norms that enforced the idea that she must become a caretaker like everyone else, so she decided to head out on her own and make her own way in the world. she found herself more interested by history and exploring the lands she calls home for herself.

since she dedicates herself to the worship of time (which is the concept ophelia hails from!) her clothes are different than what most plantfolk might be seen wearing. the cloak is standard though! since percival is raised by plantfolk, i figured the cloak that i gave him should be something common in their culture

since i needed to get an idea for what "standard" plantfolk might look like i decided to dig up some old jsab ocs that would end up as plantfolk. ended up redesigning my blossoms that i got from @/bountiful-blossoms when i was 13, i only got around to just 3 of them but here

yes the top word is their old names LOL dont ask why one was named space + 1.

i mentioned that i wanted to add more plant-like elements on places other than their heads and my buddy snick suggested that i add root tails... i like em so far. as you can see, these 3 are kids, so their manner of dress is a little closer to how percy is dressed. for some reason as i was redesigning space + 1s hat i thought "maybe she's learning to be more of a hunter actually" so i decided not to add tassels to her cloak since those could easily get caught on shit.

im pretty happy with how theyre turning out. BUT!! the cloaks im pretty unhappy with right now. i dont want them to be too detailed, but i dont want them to be blank, either. im never really sure what to do when it comes to adding patterns and im kinda lost here, so if they look weird, thats why 🤷 they aren't inspired by anything either so i feel like they look uninspired and directionless lol.

anyways this all goes without actually talking about some of the ideas that all this depends on so im very aware of how confusing this might read as since i dont usually talk about my ocs in public and im very private about what i DO talk about in private. For some reason. I should stop that.... maybe its time to break out my old oc blog

i redesigned two old ocs to reuse for a story and now i cant stop thinkin about them. theyre twins and their names are rose and violet
