The young bride says,
“But either way I become a vessel - for your purposes or for theirs.”
The Trawler-man tells her, and his smile is kind,
“You are a vessel, no more than that; to be anything else would be in excess of your own nature. Come. Bear me a gift, and I shall leave you something in return.”
He extends a sodden hand.
The promised bride turns and gazes out over the empty plains, back towards the road that will lead her to the broken village and her wedding day tomorrow.
She turns back again.
She plunges downwards, into the garden beneath the river.
— Chapter 6: It Winds, It Worms, It Wends.

Down to the River to Pray by Alison Krauss (2000 - O, Brother Where Art Thou?)
As I went down in the river to pray Studying about that good ol’ way And who shall wear the starry crown? Good Lord show me the way! O sisters let’s go down Let’s go down, come on down O sisters let’s go down Down in the river to pray
I’m not really religious or anything but this is hands down one of my favorite movies of all time and there’s something about this song that makes me happy.
#my mom keeps telling me I should watch this movie#I should probably actually get on that#also this is one of those songs that was definitely played in the car when I was a child#probably an Elizabeth Mitchell version because I can hear it in her voice but I’m not sure

What’s next?
Me, a child again, squishing my face forcefully up against bus windows as I try to see round the next corner before it gets here: what’s next? Where are we going Mr. Conductor? What’s next? What’s next?
"WE'RE GOING TO HELL, SMALL CHILD!! THIS BUS IS DRIVING STRAIGHT TO HELL!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
sorry, don't know what came over me. Thank you for the question.
Life's been busy and exhausting these first few months with a non-sleeping newborn, but I have been working away, usually at 3am, on the first draft of the TSV novelisation (which is just coming up to Faulkner drowning Stanton), putting together and recording the massive post-season QnA which should be released before Christmas, working on some S1 audio remasters and other Patreon bits, and assembling pre-production materials for our next mooted podcast project. We've dropped some draft setting notes on Patreon already, but here, have some draft art.

Six thousand years of this. Millions of people. Thousands of gods. Countless possibilities. And yet here we are, you and I, stood at a crossroads in the beating heart of the world, with nowhere left to go.

Peek-a-boo! Have you ever seen the granulate shellback crab (Hypoconcha arcuata)? Growing about 0.6 in (1.4 cm) long, this unusual-looking crustacean inhabits coastlines along parts of the western Atlantic, with a range that includes parts of the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. Unlike hermit crabs—which hide inside their chosen shells—this critter uses its posterior legs to secure shells onto its back, often shouldering pieces larger than its own body, as a defense against foes.

for the music ask game... 7 and 19!
7. a song that ill never get tired of listening to
A few years back I played this song 237 times in a year, which I think is my record for how many times I’ve played my top song. I’m also incredibly anxious during thunderstorms, so this is one of my go-tos when it’s storming and I don’t want to listen
19. a song that is from my favorite genre
I think my favorite genre is folk, or something that’s somewhat adjacent to it (I’m very bad at genres). But whatever Darlingside has got going on is absolutely gorgeous and they’re definitely one of my favorite bands. This is one of their older songs, but their recent stuff is just as stunning
#thank you for the ask cryptid!#I was trying to do something other than my regular song pics#(mountain goats crane wives Decemberists oh hellos etc etc)#I don’t talk about Darlingside enough but I adore them#one of the few bands I’d go see in concert#(I went to a concert once and it was A Lot so I don’t know how cut out I am for others)#but god. they’re harmonies and instrumentation and lyricism is stunning#if you want a good time their music is just very happy#anyways. thanks again!!#fish’s-answers
