Once again only 14 members of the Society visited The Essex for our monthly fixture. The Course as always looked great and despite the weather not being brilliant most members had an enjoyable day maybe with the exception of “the bandit” who visited more bunkers and water than seemed possible. The longest drive was won by Rob Andrews and the nearest the pin prize by Tim Churchyard. Unfortunately the Nearest the pin second shot was at a very tough hole with nobody managing to hold on the green.
Tim and Warren are poised for the final of the singles competition and a promotional video is in production. In the main competition Josh Canning returned to form finishing 3rd with 26 points, Tim followed on from last months win with second place on 27 points, the win went to Kev “new driver, bag, umbrella and buggy” Berry - congratulations! The overall Standings are close I am now at the top of the leaderboard but only by a point from Jonathan but there are several players who are close and with 5 more matches to go so it is very wide open.
We discussed increasing the numbers in the Society to 20 and I believe we agreed that the fairest way would be for all nominees to be placed in the hat and then 2 names drawn. If names can be brought to Diss I propose that we make the draw then and invite the successful applicants the following month which sees us visit Diss for the first time on the 27th May with a 10:30 tee off, I hope to see you all there.

Captain’s Report Ufford Park
This month saw 17 members of the Society visit Ufford Park. The weather forecast had looked dodgy all week with heavy rain likely all day, however things looked better on the day and it seemed possible that we would get round in the dry.......well it didn’t rain but for the first time we had SNOW and by the end it was biblical, with a couple of people even losing balls on the fairway.
The longest drive was again won by Josh Spall for the 4th consecutive time and he also picked up the nearest the pin prize. I won the nearest the pin second shot prize but only after a measure otherwise Josh would have picked up a full set of prizes.
No knockout matches were played this time, in the main event 2nd and 14th places were only separated by 4 points. Warren had a fantastic round finishing with 31 points, Kev Webster was tied with myself on 23 points but finished 3rd on count back.
Next month sees us visit Hintlesham on 25th February with an 11:30 tee off, I hope to see you all there looked resplendent in the new polo shirts.

DUNSTON HALL CAPTAIN’S REPORT
This month saw 16 of us visit Dunston Hall, once again the weather was favourable and once we had convinced the Security Staff that we were not there for the bridal fair we cracked on with the obligatory Bacon Rolls and Coffee. We discussed the scoring system after Rob’s terrific round at Seckford Hall last time and everyone was agree that the scoring system was fit for purpose and would continue to be used. We also spoke about the new Society T-Shirts and once Paul and Josh have had the chance to speak to 2 additional suppliers I would hope to have the options available and order forms ready for next time, Rob also kindly agreed to put together a logo for us to use. Some members also mentioned the end of season finale and the possibility of maybe travelling a little further to Courses that are out of our reach during the monthly Sunday meetings, I think most people were largely in favour of this so if everyone could have a think about where they would like to go (and maybe some ideas of what they are willing to pay/how long to travel etc.) we can discuss next time and then move this forward. I would personally like to go to somewhere like Cromer/Sheringham but have no idea about if they would let us on these Courses or availability of accommodation but am more than happy to go with the majority, Getting back to the Golf, despite some strong starts the back 9 was low scoring so in the end myself and John Allen were tied on 29 points, congratulations John on winning by 1 point on count back! Paul “the bandit” Holmes returned to form with 27 points to finish third. A couple of knockout matches were played and we now have 7 of the final 8 names, once Claydon returns from “the holiday of a lifetime” we can progress so see who will make up the final 8. It was noted that had Tim not bottled it and played Josh Spall he would have enjoyed a one shot win and a place in the semi-finals! I managed to secure the longest drive on the 17th, Josh “trick shot” Spall won the prize for nearest the pin 2nd shot on the 8th and Jonathan Alexander was nearest the pin on the short par 3 14th. Despite being deprived of the usual Carvery complete with Roast Potatoes the Steak and Ale Pie was quickly demolished by all prior to battling our way out of the Car Park! The championship is now nicely poised with 6 players within 3 points of the overall lead, with plenty of time and points on offer for others to force their way into contention. Next month sees us make our first visit to Bungay on the 29th October with a start time of 10:00 – I hope to see you all there.

Wensum Valley Weekend Captain's Report
Here goes my first ever blog.......17 members of the Society attended what I thought was an excellent end of season weekend with some good competitive golf played in good humour with lots of helpful comment especially on the 1st tee. Saturday was the last game of the regular season and we saw some good scores with Paul 'the bandit' Holmes taming the course with an excellent 37 points, this was made despite crashing through a Wedding Reception on 18. It was also good to see Kev Webster and Warren Hale finish in the top 3 to finish the season strongly. A little light refreshment was taken on Saturday night by most although I did hear reports that Olly must have had a dodgy pint!! I also heard unconfirmed reports of a lost bar of soap in a couple of the older members of the groups shower but I am told what goes on tour stays on tour! Sunday saw most players electing for travel by mobility Scooter and I did hear comment from the locals that Claydon looked well at home. I don't think we tamed the famous run of water holes but overall some good scores were once again made with 'the bandit' being edged out by Jon Alexander taking second with Warren continuing his excellent form to win at a canter. Olly was also worth a mention finishing 4th despite being a funny pale colour. As I said an enjoyable weekend was had, next month sees us head of to Halesworth for an 1130 start on the 30th July, 'the bandit' will be missing the day so it will give the rest of us a chance to get a head start. See you there.... your new Captain
