By the mere age of ten, Yuri had already experienced enough in life to know he had to take all of what others said with a grain of salt. Growing up in the Lower Quarter, he was less likely to trust others than the average guy. He was just a bit more jaded than most, experiencing more trouble at the hand of others. It's not that anyone was bad; In the Lower Quarter, everyone was just trying to survive, to fight their way out of poverty however they could. There were the honest folk who went about things justly, and then those who - not unlike the nobles and politicians of the Nobles' Quarter - would deceive others to get ahead. While those of the Lower Quarter were less likely to do this, they were still just as capable.

Now at the age of twenty-one, he had seen much, much more, and when Raven suggested that he would lend his aid, Yuri was a tad apprehensive. He had stabbed him in the back more than once already. The only thing that made him budge was that it was rather lose-lose either way, with one giving a clearer path out of here.

"...That the truth, old man?"

For a moment, Yuri stops to look Raven in the face. Enough lies, and it became a matter of the kid crying wolf - trust began to wane, teetering on empty. But the eyes, they would struggle to lie, they told secrets. What was it they said, "door to the soul"?

The pursuit drew closer, and Yuri curses lightly under his breath. He thought to run, but the by the sounds of it, there would be too many guys for Raven to take care of on his own.

"... Listen, there's just too many of them now..."

The number of them had grown considerably since he had started his escape from his pursuers. They were way, way outnumbered. It wouldn't feel right to just leave him! Besides, he was willing to bet they had them surrounded already.

" You don't honestly think you can handle all of this?"

Not to make such a fuss like Flynn did, he liked to believe in other's strength, give them the chance to prove themselves and stand on their own, survive independently, plus he knew how that could piss him off, but even so-

"Unless you have some death wish I don't know about."

-no matter what they went through together, even countless betrayals... it's not like he was just going to go and let him croak.

Going on and on like that, Flynn better be expecting some kind of rebuttal. Besides, it should come as no surprise that such bluntly spoken commentary would stir something in Yuri, quickly getting a rise out of him, it was something that just so happened to be a Flynn specialty. Man did the guy know just how to get under his skin!

It's no surprise to hear the clear sound of disapproval, that click of the tongue, and see the furrowing of brows (which began to knit close in his frustration), followed by a shift in his stance - one much more tense.

"I've survived this long without any help from you or the knights; so I think I've proven my ability to take care of myself without the need for all of this."

Yuri makes a motion with his hand, from himself to Flynn. He didn't need this constant input, nor did he need to be babysat. He was an adult, he wasn't so gullible and knew how to fight - why did it always feel like Flynn thought he was somehow more knowing and capable than him? It really ticked him off. And maybe it ticked him off even more sometimes to know that there were times he should worry - he always saw right through him after all.

"Didn't know I needed some kind of permission from the mighty Flynn."

Screw up? Get killed? Why did he have to go and say all of that?

would you just listen to me for two seconds?

“I am listening!”

Flynn could already tell what direction this conversation was going and it was either going to end with one of them storming off in anger or exchanging sword blows and he wasn’t sure which was worse at this point. Running a hand through his hair in frustration, his eyes closed as he took a deep breath. Keep calm. Don’t get riled up. He and Yuri have known each other since they were very small. They were capable of having a civil conversation for once… right?

“I am listening.” He repeats, a bit softer this time. “I hear what you’re saying. I get it. But listening is a two way street, Yuri! Can you listen to me for once?! I’m not just yelling at you for my health, you know!”

If anything, he was yelling for Yuri’s health. The way he kept diving into danger, not caring for his own safety so long as whoever he was working to save was safe… It was admirable, Flynn couldn’t deny that. It was one of the reasons as to why he respected Yuri so much. The reason why he was so proud to call Yuri his best friend. But…

“If you keep throwing yourself into the fire like this, you are going to die. You can’t keep taking these big giant risks like this! What are you going to do if you screw up and get yourself, or the person that you’re trying to save, killed!? I just want you to think ahead for once, is that so bad?!”
