I did it! I made an actual fic!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/64938769
This is mostly a Carmen centered fic where she has a memory of her childhood self but then she discovers something a little traumatic as an adult that makes her view the memory a little differently.
So yeah... hope you like it.

So about Zack and Ivy in the Boston Tea Party Caper
“Hey! Could you loan me some - gah! Nevermind…”
Idk why, but that line and delivery always makes me laugh.
Ngl, I think it’s a unique way to present the idea that Zack and Ivy are orphans right off the bat to Carmen without making the scene so dramatic and long. Think it could also classify as a little dark humour considering how the show tried to be somewhat lighthearted for the most part.
Also the look Carmen gives before she says “Understood”… yeah, it’s a good juxtaposition of the situation. The line delivery is comedic but the topic and impact is kinda sad to think about. Would have been a good opportunity to shed light on how people use humour to cope (… ahem…. Missing opportunity… AHEM!)
I understand that missing parents is a tough topic to talk about for some or all but I though it was nice they shed light on it without making it too depressing or drag it on for too long.
Granted it would have been interesting to see how them being orphans would have an impact on their personalities in the long term and their relationships with other characters.

Carmen Sandiego "Theory"
Started off as a Reddit post until I posted it on Ao3. This is an OLD one - one of the first things I published. It basically delves into Carmen's PTSD and evidence that she could have it. It also has lots of wonderful contributions in the comments and the main post (shoutout to bigMilk_13). Thank you to all who contributed!

Carmen Sandiego Sequel Series Mini Fics
It's basically a collection of fics that I can't be bothered to put into a storyline yet. It takes place after the 2 year timeskip and features my OC-ish character (reworked might be the right word) "Lee Jordan Jr" trying to integrate himself into Team Red after being betrayed by V.I.L.E and the Establishment (new criminal organisation competing against V.I.L.E). I'm actually surprised someone bookmarked this but pretty proud of myself. Don't expect good writing.

Cool detail and mini analysis!
Okay but… the way Carmen’s hair was always kept short at Vile until she finally grew it out once she escaped? Representing her freedom and the fact that the faculty never asked what she wanted to do with it?

Hot Rocks of Rio Caper - Tigress Quote
“Oooh snap! Good one bossa nova” - Tigress to Shadowsan
Not only does it show how hilariously oblivious the V.I.L.E Operatives are, but I looked up what bossa nova means.
Turns out it is a type of Brazilian music derived from samba but it has more emphasis on melody and less on percussion. The most well known song is “The Girl from Ipanema”
Funnily enough it means “new trend” or “new wave” in Portuguese.
Now, not to read into it too much but…
[Analysis mode activated]
It’s kind of funny that Tigress is using a type of Brazilian music as a nickname for Shadowsan - who she thinks is on V.I.L.E’s side at that time- while they are in Brazil. Would that mean that if she’s in Spain for example, she would call someone “Flamenco” or “Fandango” because it’s the music of Spain?
Also, the irony of “bossa nova” meaning “new wave/trend” - is Tigress unintentionally highlighting Shadowsan’s “new trend/wave” of betraying V.I.L.E and joining Carmen right after this 🤔🤔🤔?
But hey, that’s just some slight over analysis.

Some news I thought was funny
(DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL REPORTER. I TRIED TO SUMMARISE - I HAVE ATTACHED ARTICLES IF YOU WANNA READ. I CONDEMN ALL ACTIONS OF THE CRIMINALS)
In the UK on September 2019 at Blenheim Palace, there was a piece of artwork by Cattelan called "America" which was a solid, fully functioning toilet made of 18 karat gold. 2 days later after it was displayed, thieves broke in and stole the GOLDEN toilet.
The actual toilet was not found and it's assumed that it was broken up or melted.
The toilet itself is worth around £4.8 million ($6 million) - some say it got stolen in 5 minutes.
There is a trial and someone has already been found guilty.
[This is a joke BTW]
ANYWAY V.I.L.E!
You have stolen Vermeer paintings, the Magna Carta and had an entire storage room in a Pyramid filled with gold yet you had always been sabotaged by Le Femme Rouge.
BUT- somewhere in the UK, were guys that managed to secure a literal piece of art that is GOLD and A TOILET in 5 MINUTES(?). Without much interference and they got away with it for a while. And probably with no V.I.L.E training might I add.
Where were you when that happened?... oh wait - your leaders were in jail... nvm.
Either way - UP YOUR GAME. Seriously, if you can't secure your own treasure and are the biggest criminal empire - surely stealing satirical art worth $6 million in a palace bathroom (probably) wouldn't be that hard.
Do you know how many cuff links you can get Malestrom? Or cats and dinosaur bones Dr Bellum? Or Terry Cotton towel racks Coach Brunt? Or Renessaince gowns and caviar Countess Cleo?
Anyway, that's just a silly rant. When the news showed this, I thought it was really funny (I can just picture 3 guys at 2 am literally carrying a golden toilet seat to the back of the car) and made me have some ideas.
Imagine if we have more Carmen content and this came up as an actual caper. I think it would be GOLDEN.

YES! YES! SI!
ok but hear me out-
What if there was a project where fans of carmen sandiego created a variety of fanworks based around Team red going even more places!
Like, artists/writers/animators/etc of different kinds, create works where team red goes places that they didn't visit in the show.
Maybe just your hometown. or the capital of your country, or a goose chase across the whole country. but somewhere that is culturally significant for you personally, and utilizes the history/culture into team red's mission aganist vile (so pre s3 finale)
i just think it'd be pretty neat. for people to come together and give a chance to learn about the cultures and histories of different places, since the show was technially cancelled and some of us didn't get to see our countries visited.
Just a thought :)

What if... Carmen Sandiego had Gustavo Santaolalla?
(HEADS UP: I have not finished the Last of Us TV Show or played the games [as much as I want to] but I know what happens.)
The music in the show is good - they should release the soundtrack.
But! If we get more Carmen... what about having Gustavo Santaolalla write the music?
He is the one who wrote the music for the Last of Us Part 1 and 2 - funnily enough, some of the songs feature guitars - which I thought could be fitting since Carmen's theme sound like a guitar.
However, the games (or at least the tracks I listen to) sound a lot more somber compared to the action pack adventures of a super thief.
Here's an article of you're interested:
Actually, here are some of the songs I listen to if you're interested:
Beyond Desolation [Last of Us Part 2]
Home [The Last of Us]
The Last of Us [The Last of Us]
Astray [The Last of Us]

Carmen's voice... in the pilot
I don't only mean that she sounds awesome.
Is it just me or does Carmen's voice when she was 16 - 17 compared to now sound a little higher pitched? This isn't to say it's completely different, you can tell it's the same voice actor. (I don't trust my hearing so take what I say with a gain of salt.)
I feel like present day Carmen's voice sounds a little deeper and a little bit more mature than 16 year old Black Sheep. She sounds more firm and tired compared to her old self who seems more peppy and childish.
Maybe that might be used as a story telling trick to say how much time passed and how she matured in that time.
It's kind of like when you listen to an old recording of yourself.
In my case, I feel like my voice hasn't changed much. When listening to an old recording (if I wasn't dying of cringe) I can tell some parts of my speech have changed but other stuff stayed the same. I can still tell that was me. But some changes feel like they have to do with age, personality change or "maturity" (I'm talking about a kids show, dunno if I can be that mature yet.)
Then again, everyone is different.
[Well I got sidetracked...]

Now this! This is the analysis that is just *chef’s kiss*
Definitely sending my analysis/writing wheels turning. Thank you very much for this analysis.
Im back, bitches!!!
Saw a lot of people doing characters as the Seven Deadly Sins, and I wanted to do it. So, here you go. (I will be posting other parts, like this. With Virtues, greek gods; etc.)
Carmen: Pride (Superbia)—but in a noble, almost heroic way.
Carmen is highly confident in her abilities, always staying steps ahead of her pursuers. She takes immense pride in her work, whether it's outsmarting V.I.L.E. or reclaiming stolen artifacts. She has a bit of a showmanship streak—she doesn’t just steal, she makes a statement. Unlike typical arrogance, her pride is balanced by a strong moral compass.
However, unlike the sinful version of Pride, Carmen’s is more about self-assurance and justice rather than arrogance or vanity. If anything, she embodies the "Virtuous Pride" of someone who knows their worth but doesn’t let it consume them.
Shadowsan: Wrath (Ira)—but in a disciplined and controlled way, more like righteous fury than reckless anger.
Shadowsan is a warrior, trained in combat, and his fighting style reflects precision and intensity.
Early on, he is ruthless as a V.I.L.E. operative, showing little hesitation in battle.
His eventual betrayal of V.I.L.E. comes from anger at their corruption—his wrath is focused on justice rather than destruction.
Unlike uncontrolled wrath, Shadowsan channels his anger strategically, teaching Carmen discipline rather than revenge.
Shadowsan’s version of Wrath is more like a samurai’s honor-bound fury—cold, calculated, and only unleashed when truly necessary.
Dexter Wolfe: Sloth (Acedia)—but not in the traditional "lazy" sense. Instead, he represents the tragic side of Sloth: missed potential, helplessness, and loss.
Dexter was a loving father but never got to fulfill his potential due to his untimely death.
His story revolves around missed opportunities—he was unable to raise Carmen, stop V.I.L.E., or leave behind a legacy beyond tragedy.
He represents a life cut short before it could achieve greatness, much like how Sloth is seen as wasted potential.
Unlike the typical "laziness" version of Sloth, Dexter’s story reflects a tragic stillness—someone who could have done more but was stopped before he had the chance.
The Chief/ Tamara Fraser: Envy (Invidia)—but in a righteous, justice-driven way rather than pure jealousy.
Obsession with Carmen: Chief is laser-focused on capturing Carmen, partly because Carmen operates outside the law and succeeds where A.C.M.E. fails.
Frustration with Carmen’s independence: While A.C.M.E. is bound by rules, Carmen plays by her own, making Chief resentful of Carmen’s freedom and effectiveness.
Determined to prove A.C.M.E. is superior: Envy isn’t just about jealousy—it’s about wanting what others have. Chief wants the control, knowledge, and success Carmen has but in a lawful way.
She’s not malicious, but she’s relentless. She’s constantly trying to outdo Carmen, expose her, and prove that A.C.M.E. is the real force for justice.
Unlike the corrupt version of Envy, Chief’s comes from a desire to uphold order—but it still blinded her to the fact that Carmen isn’t truly a criminal.
Coach Brunt: Gluttony (Gula)—not just in the literal sense (since she enjoys food), but in a deeper, greed-driven hunger for power, control, and loyalty.
She craves power and control. Brunt isn’t satisfied with just being a V.I.L.E. operative—she wants Carmen to stay under her influence, and she gets angry when Carmen rejects her.
She’s emotionally gluttonous. She demands loyalty and obedience from her students, treating them like possessions rather than individuals.
She indulges in violence and brute force. Unlike more tactical villains, Brunt revels in destruction and direct confrontation, enjoying the thrill of overpowering others.
She has a literal love of excess. From her rough, indulgent personality to her big, boisterous presence, Brunt embodies the overindulgence of Gluttony—never satisfied, always wanting more.
She’s not just physically strong—her greed for control, loyalty, and brute-force dominance makes her a consuming force.
Gray: Greed (Avaritia)—but in a tragic, conflicted way rather than pure selfishness.
He’s torn between loyalty and self-interest. Unlike Carmen, who rejects V.I.L.E., Gray struggles with his desire for a better life and the temptation of wealth and power.
He wants more than what he has. While Carmen steals for justice, Gray remains in V.I.L.E. partly because it offers him security, status, and a sense of belonging.
His greed isn’t just material—it’s emotional. He longs for a connection with Carmen but also wants the perks of his V.I.L.E. lifestyle. His greed for both worlds ultimately leaves him torn.
He makes selfish choices. Even when given a chance to leave V.I.L.E., he hesitates, prioritizing his own comfort and gain over doing the right thing.
Unlike villains who are purely greedy, Gray’s Greed is tied to his internal struggle—he wants Carmen’s approval, but he also wants the easy rewards of V.I.L.E. His biggest flaw is that he can’t choose between them.
Gray's greed extends to Carmen herself. He wants her friendship—but also his V.I.L.E. life. Instead of making a clear choice, he tries to have both Carmen and the benefits of working for the bad guys.
He craves her approval. Even when they’re on opposite sides, he still wants Carmen to understand him and forgive his choices.
He has a hard time letting go. Even when Carmen fully opposes V.I.L.E., Gray keeps looking for ways to stay connected to her.
He regrets losing her, but not enough to change. His greed for both his old bond with Carmen and his current life keeps him from fully committing to one or the other.
Gray’s story is tragic because his Greed isn’t just about wealth—it’s about Carmen herself. He wants to hold onto their past, even when it’s impossible.

Who is the most tragic character in Carmen Sandiego? [Rant/Discussion]
Tumblr media
Well... that says a lot Google.
I'll be honest, every character that is mentioned to have a backstory is tragic, so it's hard to pin point for me.
Time for a list and mini analysis!
Gray
If we're going off tragic heroes who have a Hamartia (Fatal Flaw), his fatal flaw is wanting more than what he's got. And he would go the extremes to get it
After Gray got back his memories, I kinda felt bad for him generally. Imagine the conflict of wanting to care for Carmen yet falling back into a criminal who is against her.
At the end, he never said good bye to Carmen on screen. (I suppose that the fanfics would rectify this.)
Also, he seems to be a controversial character for many yet he probably represents the issues of being genuinely in the gray area
Player
His dad left him so Player became a hacker to find him. He very much could have taken revenge but he decided not to because his mum and him was better off without him.
Considering he works with superthief, you know he's seen or heard things no kid should.
Zack and Ivy
They're orphans who had no one else to fall back on. They only had each other.
They only got into crime because they were forced to. They genuinely didn't want to (The Inevitability of Fate)
They saw their friends (Team Red) get hurt or go missing so many times.
Shadowsan
He has a similar Hamartia (Fatal Flaw) to Gray which ultimately led him into a life of crime (along with being at the top of it) and separating from his brother.
He saw what getting in trouble with the law could happen first hand when he saw what happened to Dexter Wolfe.
He would have felt guilty for bringing Carmen to VILE and bringing her up into a life he didn't want her to have.
Carmen
She was born into a life she didn't ask for. A daughter of a thief the entire world is after... and probably would want dead.
She was raised into becoming a thief and she couldn't really do anything in her early life (The Inevitability of Fate)
She found out about the not so good side of her VILE "family" (Peripeteia (Reversal of Fortune) = she went from wanting to be a thief to having a loathing to VILE)
She pretty much had to deal with being alone for most of her life.
I think it's a little sad to think that throughout the entire show she had actively been trying to undo the wrong done by VILE and avoiding to be like them, yet she got brainwashed into doing that dirty work. She became the thing she wanted to destroy. YES - she got her memories back but the thought of it is just scary and tragic to think about.
Dexter Wolfe
Yes he was a thief but he tried to change
Despite him trying to change, his past ultimately caught up to him and he paid the price - despite it being an accident.
“People don’t forget, nothing gets forgiven.” - John Marston
If you think about it, him being a notorious thief would mean that people might want him dead.
Carlotta Valdez/Vera Cruz
Her lover got killed despite his efforts to change and move on from the past
She didn’t know where her daughter was for the past 20 or so years and may have felt… empty for all that time.
Dr Bellum [This is just a joke :)]
She has 7 uncles. Does that mean she has lots of cousins? If so, her brain must be tragically fried at the amount of family members she needs to remember on top of all those science equations to make sure the brainwashing works!
[… what? I’m kidding! … but seriously, she has 7 uncles? No offence but I can only remember the names of my 2 uncles. The rest are just nicknames and some I can’t even remember. Must’ve been an indication that I cant do math very well.]
My conclusion? THERAPY NOW!
But that's my thoughts. Let me know what you think!
Lee Jordan Jr (OC ish)
WARNING: WILL GET DARK.
If you've been reading my fics or rants at the bottom (if you have - thanks!), I feel like I'm following the trope of giving OCs as much trauma as possible - I'm sorry.
He became a thief after losing his mum and ending up alone. He wanted revenge so bad that he wasted his life just to look for it.
Lee Jordan isn't even his real name - he just took it by the "suggestion" of his uncle in order to become more focused on being an accomplished thief.
The Junior part of his name means he has expectations to meet. The fact he doesn’t want to kill anyone except the one he’s taking revenge on would have made it difficult to live up to those expectations.
His mum and dad were criminals and they lied to him. Similar to Carmen, he was born into a life he didn’t ask for.
Although most of the characters above were orphans to begin with, Lee actually had some time with his mum and dad before they were taken away at different points of his life. It’s kind of like he was given a brief taste of what something normal feels like, almost taunting him. The other characters might wonder what being “normal” feels like but Lee would know exactly which means that he would miss it a lot and make seeing other people have a “normal” life more painful.
Somewhat similar to Player, he had seen things he isn’t supposed to see.
If you’re a RDR player and watched Fizhy’s video on The Tragedy of Jack Marston, it’s kinda like that minus the fact that someone gets killed.
But yeah, that’s my character trauma dumping.

Two sides of the same coin?
Julethief is funny bc while they’re both very intelligent characters, one of them has at least 2 degrees (and possibly has/was working on phd or masters); and the other one flunked and then dropped out of the only school she ever attended
(To be fair, Carmen would have passed had Shadowsan not cheated—for her own good, mind you—but I digress, lol)
