Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons (2001)
I have extremely fond memories of this game. Somehow I can still recall it quite clearly despite having a mere existence of only 6 years at the time.
I remember that mesmerizing sprite art beautifully encapsulated in the intro. I remember seeing the different ridable animal companions in the manual (Man I miss those). Being obsessed with dinosaurs at the time, i thought, 𝘋𝘶𝘩, I have to have Dimitri. I got Ricky the kangaroo on first play through. I remember Link and Din dancing by the caravans as chip tunes play through tinny speakers engulfed by an Atomic Purple Gameboy Colour. I remember those classic GameFaq walkthroughs with their intuitive text created and often expertly executed title logos. I remember trying to play on the now infamous, and almost cliche to mention, non-backlit screen during family trips in the car.
I find myself reflecting on the past often these days. I remember a lot.

Yume Nikki (2004)
Yume Nikki is an adventure game made by pseudonymous Japanese developer Kikiyama. It was developed using RPG Maker 2003, but lacks many gameplay elements commonly associated with role-playing games. The player explores the dreams of the protagonist Madotsuki and encounters a number of surreal locations and creatures. This is a game in which you traverse the extremely dark world inside a dream.

Tumblr media
This pixel art was inspired by the PC-98 visual novel "YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world" using a colour palette from the game.

Dithered using patterns from the NEC PC-98 and made in Clip Studio Paint with my dithering brush set.

I was always a fan of Double Dragon type side scrolling beat ‘em ups on the NES. So having Final Fight was a fun SNES game to own & play with a friend.
Final Fight, released for the Super Nintendo in 1991, is a classic beat 'em up arcade game that became a staple of the SNES library. Players take on the roles of street fighters Cody, Guy, and Haggar as they battle through the dangerous streets of Metro City to rescue Haggar's kidnapped daughter. With its iconic characters, intense action, and co-op multiplayer mode, Final Fight delivers a fun experience that has stood the test of time.
