My Gender is [NOT] Human Zine is now available for download!

Xenogender: A gender that cannot be contained by human understandings of gender; more concerned with crafting other methods of gender categorization and hierarchy such as those relating to animals, plants, or other creatures/things.

This zine is a collection of artwork, writing and more created by alterhumans and nonhumans to express both their species identity, gender, and how they intersect. While this zine has an xenogender slant, everyone who had something to share about how their species and gender overlap were encouraged to submit pieces!

Speaking of which: Thank you to everyone who submitted works! It means a lot to us that others think our project is valuable and are willing to use their time and ability to be a part of it! The community is so talented and varied, we hope this zine serves as a comfort for anyone who feels alone in their alterhuman and gender identities.

We created this zine to be an accessible pdf. Every entry is bookmarked for easy browsing, every image contribution is accompanied by alt text and we’ve done our best to battle against Adobe Acrobat's reading order to make sure it was logical! We’re also rather proud of figuring out how to make the content warnings also be links - so skipping ahead is only a click away.

So um, just for the rest of the class, @that-lemur, can you show us the proof that you are, in fact, a lemur internally?

Because without scientific backing, I just don't know why anyone should believe you, by your standards... 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, reminder that the Alterhuman community is inclusive. It has always been inclusive since the term was coined, including plural and walk-in identities. (Walk-ins generally referring to a type of spiritual headmate who walk in to a system.)

So yeah, if you're routinely posting in inclusive spaces, people will probably assume you're inclusive and safe to interact with.

Now, I find it pretty ridiculous that someone in the alterhuman community is using a lack of scientific basis to argue someone's identity is invalid.

But I also need to say that this factually incorrect!

Practically every source, including dissociative experts, have confirmed that endogenic and non-disordered plurality exists or at least may be possible. Anti-endos have yet to produce even a single doctor who has said otherwise.

And more recently, there was an AMA with psychiatrists researching tulpas in an fMRI study for Stanford University. One of their big findings was changes in the brains of tulpa systems during possession of limbs.

This is actual, neurological data.

Beyond that, here's a big document of other research and studies related to endogenic systems.

I could go all day with pro-endo sources. But here's the bigger thing you need to understand.

Bigotry like this has no place in the alterhuman community. Because if you decide that someone's identity isn't valid because they don't have "scientific backing," others will see that as permission to say the same about you.

The system medicalist ideology of requiring scientific validation is harmful to all alterhumans, not just endogenic systems.

I think there's a difference, generally but not always, between general alterhuman (and all such labels) joy/euphoria and species specifc joy/euphoria. I think sometimes there's an overlap and all kinds are valid and important.

A general alterhuman joy activity (here I am using alterhuman to mean all identities where one is not human in some way) might not match up with your species. It might include gear that doesn't match, doing quads even though your species wouldn't move like that, howling and barking even if your species doesn't, going into woods or parks even if that's not your habitat etc. All of this is just to feel more animal, or monster, or Other in general. It creates joy in this way.

More specific and 'accurate' activities will match your species and can be very dedicated and niche. Some general advice may apply, but you might have very specific things too. The idea is to feel more like yourself, to forge that denied connection and feel a bit more 'right'. Thus there is euphoria.

The overlap ofc comes with things that aren't necessarily to do with being more like your species in an accurate way but make you feel connected to it specifically (wearing a shirt with your species picture on it, engaging in fiction from your source, buying things that remind you of your species, posting about being your species, moodboards + similar etc).

I think it's important to distinguish between these two types of community joy because we can so easily get wrapped up in the 'illogical' things we might do to feel better and it's so quickly twisted to invalidate us. It's not illogical or inaccurate, it's just a more generalised euphoria! And also, critically, the generalised joy is something everyone of every identity can share more than others including -link and -hearted identities.

This is something a lot of alterhumans say, but many people hear this phrase so much that they no longer realize how true it is.

Imagine: here you can meet someone who lived a past life as a lion

You can talk to someone whose autism has made them feel like a dragon

You can be in the same class with someone who has a huge connection with ferrets

You can see someone who has chosen to identify as a kitsune

You can become friends with someone who identifies as a character from the show you're currently watching

You can walk around the city with the incarnation of the void itself

You can start a conversation with a plant-woman
