aah sending you so many asks sorry!! i’m in love with the andy/cj/toby ot3 from what you’ve said and i’m so excited to finish the show😌 what fics would you recommend? sorry to bother you so much! when in the series do you think i should read “such a winters day”? tysm ily have a great night/day

aaaah no you’re so good, i’m sorry i took a few days to answer!! it’s been... A Few Days. but i absolutely love getting excuses to talk about the west wing and you’re lovely so please don’t apologize!!

as for fic recs... tbh i have not been as good about reading west wing fic as i should. i have a couple of amazing fics to rec, but also, from what i can tell, the majority of the fandom seems to predate ao3? and i haven’t not used ao3 since i swore off fanfic.net in like... 2017. @etraytin has been archiving a josh/donna yahoo group that she saved when yahoo groups died last year, and while i haven’t gotten the chance to check it out yet, i know there’s a lot of good stuff there, so feel free to take a look! i can’t warn about spoilers there though.

the first fic that i have to rec is one that you will already be able to read! ourselves and immortality by the inimitable etraytin is a very, very deliciously angsty fic set after 1x12, with the premise that... everyone at the state of the union dies, and the “designated survivor” roger tribbey becomes president. fun times! very, very angsty times. warning for major character death, obviously. i read that fic last week while in the throes of deep, deep stressing, and i enjoyed myself immensely. no spoilers for anything after 1x12, because nothing... happens the way it did in canon? so you’re safe, lol.

there’s also such a winter’s day (aka the california dreaming series) which is set after 6x09, although i wouldn’t recommend reading it until you finish the whole series. while it’s technically canon-divergent, it parallels a lot of canon events, and you probably won’t notice the easter eggs of changes in the timeline until you’ve seen them in the show. it’s a WONDERFUL fic/series, with the poly rep i need in my life, and i highly recommend it!! just like. after you finish tww lol.

now, the GREATEST injustice of my life is that there are ZERO fics on ao3 tagged with the ot3. zero. nada. ZILCH. i feel cheated. (apparently people used to ship them?? way back when?? i’m a fandom baby though so i have no idea where i’d even FIND that.)

i have found, however, a handful of phenomenal cj/toby and cj/andy fics. i am but one person who doesn’t read explicit fic, so i haven’t seen everything, but may i please present an approximate rescue (featuring the best take on toby/cj i have ever seen, but don’t read until you’ve finished season 3, warning for some sorta-explicit sexytimes) and that obliterated place (featuring the ONLY fic i’ve found that agrees with my take on the ot3, but don’t read until you’ve watched 4x05, warning for some less-explicit sexytimes) and also, y’know, my own fic with these three (set in the sense8 au that i will NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT. but don’t read until you’ve finished 7x21!)

people better than myself have made rec lists of joshdonna fanfic, and i have a migraine, so i’m not gonna list a bunch of fics, but please go looking for them because there’s a LOT of fanfic and it’s all AMAZING. shoutout to heirlooms, which has spoilers for season 3 but which i love very much anyways. (i also have two joshdonna fics but one of them is a spoiler for 5x21 and the other one is a spoiler for... basically the entirety of s7.)

again, disclaimer that i haven’t actually READ a lot of west wing fanfic! for example, @cassiesinsanity is a mutual of mine and i still haven’t gotten the chance to go through her fic (oops). but i would vouch for its amazingness based on her mcu fics and her general awesomeness. check out her ao3!
