#capybara #I used to work at a petting zoo #We had three capybaras and had to keep them separate because the females would try to kill each other #I've watched them charge wallabies just for getting in their space #One time a lady brought in a little dog (which for some reason they were allowed to do if they keep them in their arms the whole time)#(she didn't)#The capy decided that dog needed to die and did its absolute best to make it that way #Fortunately the staff saw it and managed to intervene before anything serious happened #But the capy was not happy #I don't trust capybaras. They look chill but they're full of rage

What's not to love about these lovely creatures? Honestly, growing up I was always a dog person (even despite the fact that I was attacked by one when I was young). But then I realized I wouldn't be able to take care of a dog for, well, a buncha reasons, thought about how it would be to have a cat, and thought, yeah, it would be nice to have one. For so many reasons. The eternally lethargic me could never take care of a dog properly. A cat, though? I probably could.

#the void asks back #I physically still can't bring myself not to freeze up or get away when a dog is nearby #despite the fact that I still love them #my first thought when one is nearby is always “what if it decides to attack me?”#obviously the answer is that it won't but childhood trauma does shit to you lol #that's the first time I've ever called it trauma but now that I mention it it really is huh #still remember sobbing afterwards about the wounds on my back #shame I never got any scars #the least I could get for going through that #fun fact: The next house we moved to after that incident had a dog that was chained that I played with #one of my strongest memories with the dog was of accidentally hurting it because of how sad and guilty it made me #like damn I really liked that dog #despite the fact that I still couldn't get too close given the whole recently formed trauma thing #I do also remember getting chased by a crocodile with my aunt back in the same home the dog attack took place in #or was it an alligator #but honestly I have trouble believing that memory wasn't a dream #even though that's the only memory of that time I'm unsure is a dream or not #one day I should ask my aunt if it was a dream #also we were in the house's compound so we were able to run inside and be fine #but somehow I doubt that that really happened #oops there I go rambling in the tags again

y'all i slept for 21+ hours uninterrupted? haven't done that in a a while.

#i did take extra trazodone bc taking it the first time is what triggered immediate vomitting lol i guess it still managed to take effect #i didnt even think it had time to reach my stomach or anything that's wild #unless i just slept that long bc i was so ill #that happens too #tyrell knew i was asleep that whole time and she didnt let arlo out give him food or anything :(((#he just held it im so sad #i know she cant feed him his food bc he wont let her but she could have brought him human snacks or dog treats from outside of the room :(#i know helping with their dogs is how i earn my keep since i dont help with the mortgage but like #he's a libing creature and his parent is essentially comatose how could you just leave him to hold it for nearly an entire day :(#he's too polite to wake me even if i were wakeable #is it reasonable to be upset about that?#we function as a family not as roommates #arlo is very often left out of familial things #keep in mind though arlo chomps tyrell sometimes #but not when shes letting him outside and stuff its only if like #like she cant put a cone on him #but she can do normal things like bringing him outside and stuff and she says shes not afraid of him #and has admitted that it's been her fault for the chomps bc she wasnt watching for the signals #what im saying is its not dangerous for her to let him out and she is not afraid to do so #she does when i ask her to when im very ill #but i couldnt ask while unconscious

you've heard of hot hands/cold hands and gives pickles/takes pickles. well this weekend i discovered a third form of Friendship Symbiosis: wants dog attention/Does Not Want Dog Attention. brought to you by me and my friend couch surfing together and him being grateful to me for keeping the (biggish) dog off of his air mattress and me being grateful to him for Letting Me Have Dog Friend On Couch With Me All Night :D

...it should be noted that this does not work with cats bc given the choice between someone who wants their attention and someone who doesn't cats will pick the one who doesn't want them every time. cats have eight senses and one of them is 'who least wants me on their lap rn'

This was taken an hour after getting back to the hotel post seminar on play.

I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about play and it's role in relationship building, confidence boosting, and training. Specifically how using play allows one to link the emotions of the dog during training to how it feels about performing that behavior later.

Forte thoroughly enjoyed playing with me and the big improvements the small tweaks the instructor had me make made for him.

Before I brought Forte out I was asked what I wanted to work on. I said his outs because Forte still has a tendency to chew on toys as he's releasing them. But I confessed that I was afraid he'd see a room full of people, start making eyes at everyone and I'd have a hard time convincing him to play with me.

I ended up getting really good in the moment help with his out. But more importantly the entire time I had Forte out he only once sort of drifted away from me once while the instructor and I were talking. Other than that I had Forte's full and enthusiastic attention.

I also got compliments on how into me Forte is and how it's clear I've put a lot of time and effort into our play.

Been meaning to bathe the kittens but kept putting it off bc the last time I bathed them was when they were much tinier and more forgiving. But today I nearly stepped on a decapitated mouse they had dragged upstairs, so into the tub they all went. They're now fresh, kissable, and heartbroken. 💔

I am so glad emergency vets are a thing

#tw for dog injury and mention of blood #Obi my dad's cattle dog cut himself super bad on some scrap metal in the neighbor's yard #Obi just barreled through it without any hesitation #i think my dad is going to ask the neighbor to clean it up bc it's right next to our yard #but anyway Obi was in bad shape #he was bleeding more than ive ever seen anyone bleed #he hit a vain in his back leg and i had to hold pressure the whole way to the vet #which was about a half hour (which was the closest one)#Obi is okay now #he's still at the Vet under observation #they had to sedate him so they could sew him up but I'm pretty sure he's going to be fine #he'll just have to take it super easy for the next few weeks :(#but god there was so much blood guys #i was covered in it by the time we got to the vet #i had my hand wrapped around his leg pinching the artery as tight as i could #which poor Obi did not enjoy #mind u i used to rick climb so my grip strength is above average #he also had a bad cut on his front leg and my mom was holding that #i didnt even have shoes on we rushed out the door so quickly #at the vet i left a bigger blood trail than obi did bc it was on my socks and clothes #my hands were coated in blood too :(#we grabbed a towel but i wasn't able to get it on the wound bc i was basically using my hands as a shitty tourniquet #my husband got left at home and he ended up cleaning all of the blood off the floor and he's surprised he was able to without feeling faint #my youngest brother was with him and he did almost pass out #my dad is in rough shape he just wants Obi to be okay #my dad said “i dont care how much it costs please save my dog”#which like same but also we're not exactly well off x_x or even okay financially #so it's gonna be a hard few months as we work to pay it off #so anyway how was ur Saturday night? x_x
