I'm still not sure what my stance is on headmistress Griffin being related to Darcy or not, the resemblance is definitely there, and I can't deny that. I would also like to point out that present day Stormy looks sort of similar to present day Griffin too. Stormy's hairstyle and hair color appear pretty similar to hers. I kind of like the theory that Darcy and Stormy were orphaned by Griffin and Valtor (or something like that), but I find it a bit weird because the two of them (including Icy ofc) had a thing for Valtor. Just another thing that I noticed: Darcy's got Griffin's eyes, whilst Stormy's are blue like Valtor's (his eyes are notably lighter though.)

I like that one! I hated the unnecessary drama they added into Helia and Flora's relationship though. Regarding Krystal, I think that her and Flora could've made for a good friendship.

Another thing I wish more authors would take into consideration: that a name popular at a certain time and place, may not have been nearly as popular (or exist at all) at the same time in another place, even if the same language is spoken.

When the UK in the 1980s had Gemma and Emma and Nicola and Lucy, those name were very rare in the US at the same period. (I've never met a Gemma in the US, though I'm sure some are out there. Nicole was very common in the US during the same period, but Nicola was not.) For boys, the UK had Jack and Henry and Harry, while Jack and Henry regained popularity in the US in the 2000s, and Harry is still uncommon. On the girls' side, Hannah and Charlotte and Emma were common in the UK in the 1980s, and in the US about 20 years later. Good luck at finding a Nigel or Rupert or Giles in the US, or an Amber or Cody or Travis in the UK at the same time. "Jack" and "Harry" are more common as nicknames in the US, while they may be either a nickname or legal name in the UK.

Some names are more common for boys in one time and place, and for girls in another. Shannon, Taylor, Ashley, Jess(i)e (the "i" version more common for girls). Nicknames may also change. A Margaret in one place and decade is likely a Peg or Peggy, in another Meg or Maggie. A Richard might be Dickon, Dick, or Rick - again, dependent on time and place. "Chantal" might be the name of choice to imply someone is a chav, while "Krystal" is white trash. (Not demeaning either of those names. At all. I know those associations are horrible and unfair, but I've seen them used that way in media more than once.) Nicknames also vary by location - a Gazza might be Gareth in the UK, but no Gary would be Gazza in the US. Kylie was popular in Australia in the 1970s, but remained rare in the US during an era when Kyles and Kaylas were everywhere.

My point: choosing names is more than just "people in X language/location use Y as a name." Nobody would be confused to see the name Gareth or Tristram given to an American character born in the late 1970s, but it would also be highly unusual. If two American-born parents in a book set in the 1980s in America have children named Gareth (called Gazza), Jack, and Lucy, I'm going to raise an eyebrow. Same if British-born parents in the same period in the UK have kids named Tanner, Travis, and Amber. It's not impossible. It is unlikely.

Just something to consider. (Especially as the book I'm currently reading has American characters roughly my age named Lucy, Charlotte, and Gary. Possible? Sure. Likely? No. Jessica, Caroline, and Greg would be much more period-and-place-specific likely.)

Star Fox 3rd Gen Trio Redesign Ideas

Marcus McCloud:

·Of course still keep his fox fur in that beautiful azure blue shade as his mother Krystal McCloud's. With some of that golden brownish-white fur like his father Fox McCloud's. Definitely keep the apple green eyes on Marcus. Skinny, muscular & built. Now for the new differences should be are having his golden brownish-white hairdo be a slight spikey mohawk at the back while at the front keep the signature swirl. & Have Marcus actually being so tall, his height can almost reach senior advisor Falco Lombardi's. Imagine Nintendo revealing that James McCloud, Marcus' paternal grandfather was very tall, but unfortunately......his son did not inherited that height at all & instead was so short(but not too short). So.......the grandson ends up being tall, meaning that......it skipped a generation......much to Fox's dismay. Marcus McCloud's age: 19 years old.

·For his Star Fox jumpsuit, what if instead of the orange, Marcus could wear gold? Think about it, gold & blue are a rich colorful combination. In fact, I think those colors fit Marcus more. Blue fur & a golden jumpsuit. Red bandana around his neck too please. I also think he'd definitely not only wear those familiar black fingerless gloves with the golden knuckle studs, but also have his jacket sleeves rolled up too hehe, like father, like son. & Put a blue upside-down triangular stone on the top of Marcus' metal boots.

Tripp Toad:

·He should still have orange skin & sky blue eyes. The orange skin should be from great-grandma Toad's & that could be why granduncle Grippy Toad is orange. As for the sky blue eyes, obviously from father Slippy Toad. Although, imagine if Slippy were to have hair, but just shaves it off, then I'd definitely see the green frog being a red-head(like a carrot top or even ginger), so that his 1st born son can be a red-head too. Now for the only add-on for Tripp's redesign should be freckles, which can be a trait that he'd inherit from his mother Amanda Toad who should have freckles for her redesign by Nintendo. Keep him still round & short too. Have his official name be revealed as Tripp Toad. His age: 18 years old(19 around the fall season).

·I am thinking that his jumpsuit should still be blue except in a different shade like perhaps Tripp would look good in neon blue, you know like one of the joy-cons for the Switch. Red bandana around his neck. What do you think? Dark brown fingerless gloves with silver knuckle studs. Put a green rectangular stone on his metal boots. Oh & definitely make Tripp keep that cowboy hat.

Ruby Grey:

·& Finally for Peppy Hare's granddaughter, imagine her's being the most different out of the 3rd gen trio's redesigns. What if when her father is finally revealed, Nintendo will actually make the father of Peppy's granddaughter turning out to be.............Bill Grey? Yup Bill Grey x Lucy Hare who'd be Mrs.Lucina Hare-Grey btw. Pairing name: BILUCY. If this ends up being the case in upcoming SF games, then that would make Peppy's grandchild a hybrid character of half-canidae from her bulldog father & half-leporidae from her rabbit mother. Her redesign can be of grey & cream-colored fur, the grey from Bill & the cream from Lucy's secondary fur below her brownish-grey fur, which should be Peppy's daughter's redesign for when Luce is reintroduced in future SF games. Make the bilucy daughter have really short cherry blossom pink hair, which should be from Lucy, style up the sakura-colored tuft in a style of curly bangs. & What would add such a lovely touch is giving Peppy's granddaughter fringes on her forehead shaped into a heart, you know like Chibiusa Tsukino aka Sailor Chibi Moon. She has a pretty slender body. She's a bit shorter than Marcus & much taller than Tripp. However, much to her biggest dismay, she also has a really.....small....chest(yeah unfortunately, she has a complex about her under-endowed "assets")& that can be a feature possibly inherited from mama Lucy. Now as she'd be a hybrid, Ruby would actually look more of a rabbit than a dog unlike other hybrids that show traits from both parents like my ocs, Violett Lombardi & Ace Lombardi who are the pheasant-domestic shorthair gryphon children of Falco Lombardi & his wife Katt Monroe who'd be Mrs.Kathrene Monroe-Lombardi. Because of this, a lot of the Lylatians would believe that Ruby is a purebred bunny until they realize that Bill who'd obviously be a General in the next gen storyline is her biological father. Then there will be some slight differences that Ruby were to have that you wouldn't see from a rabbit. First off, are the ears, they look like rabbit ears that are floppy like a bulldog's. Secondly, she has dog claws for her hands. Third, she has canine feet. Fourth, Ruby was born with canine-shaped eyes except they are crimson red like Lucy's. & Finally, her fluffy cottontail that wags like all tails of canines, & actually looks like a shape of a Q-tip(you know the ones you use to clean your ears). So Peppy's hybrid granddaughter looks mostly like a rabbit with some features from half of her bulldog genes. She also has her mother's bunny face(I changed my mind about her having her father's doggy face). I think Ruby, Ruby Grey(middle name: Vivian) should be her official name. & For her age, 18 years old.

·& Now for what she wears when working in Team Star Fox, instead of that bodysuit that she wore in one of the non-canon endings in Command, why not Ruby just wears the exact jumpsuit as any members of the Star Fox team? Ruby's jumpsuit can be cherry blossom pink especially to match her hair. Put a red bandana around her neck. (Yeah I think it's a tradition for members of StarFox to wear the red neckerchief.) Give her French pink gloves that have a yellow-cuffed style for the wrists, & a crimson red dog paw print on the front of the gloves. & Embellish the top of Ruby's metal boots with a red heart-shaped stone.

This season had ruby getting shot but it wasn’t connected to the criminal underworld they’re involved in. Even though it was serious it was basically just laughed off and used for jokes with the scooter. Do you think the show will ever use any real violence and getting hurt or a life or death situation with one of them? Or is the show trying to avoid it? Might put a damper on doing crime

Hmm, I actually disagree that it was laughed off? Even if the scooter was used for comedic set-up later on, it also served as a key to unlock Ruby and Stan’s broader arc too. But I’ll come back to that in a sec! To answer your specific question, yes, I do think the show will use real violence and injury on the girls, and I think that’s where this season was heading overall  before it was interrupted.

Ruby getting shot was an incredibly important moment in many storylines and was an important narrative step in the mounting of violence against the girls in the season overall, which arguably actually started back in 2.07 with the girls in the drug house (direct non-fatal threat). It was sort of retired across the backend of s2 and replaced with a threat to freedom instead, but then exploded back open with Rio attempting to murder Beth in 3.02/3.03 (direct fatal threat), followed by Lucy’s murder in 3.05 (direct and fatal violence to a peripheral character and indirect fatal violence to the girls), and finally Ruby getting shot in 3.07 (direct, non-fatal violence). 

That paired with the hitman storyline, and Ruby’s discussion over the ‘circle being complete’ from her shooting Big Mike in the leg way back in 1.03 makes me believe pretty firmly that this mounting violence was leading to Beth getting shot in the finale.

Beyond that, Ruby getting shot had massive ramifications on her and Stan’s storyline – namely that it triggered Stan’s desire to protect and provide for Ruby which ultimately pushed him straight into Krystal’s crime ring. That makes for not only a succinct and compelling narrative mirror to the fact that Ruby’s desire to protect and provide for their daughter was what spurred her into crime, but a great emotional anchor for them in an emotionally complicated and tumultuous storyline.

Plus, of course, it pushed Annie towards a new future. 

I’m curious to know if we would���ve seen a broader fallout from it too? I’m inclined to think that we would’ve, as the show’s been pretty deliberate about keeping Ruby injured in a way it didn’t with Dean or Rio after their respective shootings.

Guess we’ll just have to wait for s4 to see!

Fanfic Recommendations

I’ve decided to advertise some of my favorite fics from my ever-growing list of recommendations.  These are all by friends of mine that I’ve known for quite some time and I just cannot recommend their work enough.  Now, mind you, these aren’t all of the fics I’d recommend reading, just some I picked off the top of my head.  I’m really thinking about doing more posts like this in the future.  And if anyone has any recs for me, please send them my way.  As soon as I’m free, I’ll give them a read.  I’m trying to be more active on AO3 in the future, not just with posting but with commenting as well!

What Happened After Venom by birdsaretoddlers -- A story that follows Star Wolf, particularly Andrew, that takes place after Star Fox Adventures.  Andrew returns to Star Wolf after being presumed dead after the Lylat Wars.  The team encounters some financial troubles and shenanigans ensue.  A delightful blend of levity with serious themes.  Definitely a good read if you’re a Star Wolf fan.  Lucy x Andrew content.

Some Like It Rough by LittleBlueWraith  -- A series of stories involving Star Wolf, told in a somewhat episodic fashion with overarching themes that stretch across the story.  It covers lots of stories that are hinted at in canon, like how the team met Panther.  Very heavy on Wolf x Leon and does contain some sexual content.

Days of Thunder by Saffronic (TheLaughingStar)  -- A collection of chapters about Falco and Fox, following the Command ending where they become racers. Fox and Falco are gearing up for a big race and must carefully navigate their feelings about each other and the racing world.  Also features Lucy as the best team manager ever. Heavy on Fox x Falco.

Macbethian Sonnets by MythicWolf -- With Cornerian rule over the Lylat System becoming stricter and stricter, Wolf finds himself as part of a rebellion on Macbeth.  Meanwhile, Star Fox has broken up and Fox has become more and more aware of Corneria’s growing tyranny, which puts him on a path that leads to a place he never expected-- siding with Wolf O’Donnell.  Lots of kicking imperialist butt and deep dives into the character’s mindsets as they’re fighting Corneria.  Wolf x Fox content.

Know Your Enemy by winedrinkercat -- Krystal and Fox break up and Krystal decides to join Star Wolf.  In order to impress Wolf, she decides to kidnap a nobleman’s daughter.  Features some juicy Krystal vs Fox rivalry which is something I did not know I needed in my life until I read that first chapter and was hooked.  Wolf x Fox and Miyu x Fay content. 

Sunflower by spacenintendogs -- After a fight in a bar leaves a married couple dead, Star Wolf takes on the responsibility of raising their orphaned daughter.  Perfect for anyone looking for a Star Wolf story that doesn’t just focus on the mercenary aspect of the team but also the found family aspect. Fox x Krystal and Lucy x Falco content.
