This week i photography we had the chance to choose individual projects again. I decided to shoot macro photography. I used an 18-55m macro lens to shoot photos of plants and buglife. With this lens I was able to capture photos extremely close up in good focus. I toggled with the focusing dots to achieve my desired results with each photo. Last I imported my photos to lightroom for some final touches.

This week in photography we all chose personal projects. I decide to do small planet photography. Small planet photography is an effect that turns a panorama into a circle to make it look like you are looking at a small planet from above. To get this effect I used different tools in photoshop. Each of the photographs benefit from having an even horizon which makes easier for the circle to match up.

This week in photography we had a Photo Exhibition. We were supposed to choose 4-6 images with a common theme. I chose 6 images of places that I love to ski at. The places that the photos were taken at are Squaw Valley CA, Snowbird UT, Crystal Mountain WA, Grand Targhee WY, and Bariloche Argentina. All of these places offered unique terrain which made for good photographs. Each of these places also had different kinds of trees and rocks. After we selected our photos we printed them out and put them on white borders for display at the exhibit.

This week in Photography we learned about HDR photography. We learned about vibrant fantasy like colors that this type of photography produces . We also learned about heavy contrast between dark object and light objects such as the sky and the ground. We then used three methods for capturing HDR. The first method was just to the normal photos and edit them in Lightroom to get the HDR effect. The next method we used was to take photos in HDR mode in our cameras that took three photos at once and automatically combined them to get one photo. The last method we used was to take three photos with a tripod of normal exposure, -2 exposure, and plus 2 exposure. We then uploaded these three photos to photoshop and combined them together to get a median HDR effect.

This week in photography we had three mini projects. In the first project we had to pick a specific theme and shoot 25 photos of that theme. I chose to photograph shoes. I tried to get a variety of different looks and angles for my shoe photos. The next project we did consisted of taking a photograph of anything every 25 steps. I started in the Upper School quad and worked my way down to the CADC. I took photos of everything ranging from signs to rocks and even plants. The last mini project was to take 25 photos on one thing from many different angles. I decided to to take photos of the Menlo athletic trophy room trying to capture the many sports that were displayed.

This week in Photography we discovered and learned even more uses for photoshop. We learned to edit portraits in a more advanced way using masks, textures and patterns. Next we shot action photos to create GIFS which are moving images. We used a fast shutter speed to capture as many photos in a short amount of time to create multiple frames for our GIFS. We then matched the background to the other photos so each of the images had the same background creating a smooth cycling photo.

This week in photography we learned about Surrealism and created collages with objects we found interesting. Surrealism is a mixture between dream and reality in an image. For my first collage I combined marble objects for an ancient theme. My next collage I had a theme of fish in the desert. And for my last collage I made a dark theme with an angel and a statue head. In all of these collages we used techniques such as liquifying, adjustment layers, and masking.

This week in photography we turned our portrait pictures into magazine covers. I decided to be on FREESKIER magazine. I downloaded an image of one of their covers and cropped the title text out to put on my own cover. Then using adobe photoshop we added text and different effects to make our magazine covers look as real as possible. Lastly, we printed our covers to put on display.

This week in photography we explored light painting. To set up for these photos we were in a very dark space and used a very slow shutter speed of 8 seconds. We then used a multitude of different lights to draw designs, shapes, and images. We also experimented with tying lights to strings and spinning them around to create a circular effect. Lastly, we uploaded our photos to Lightroom for final touches and editing.

This week in photography Connor, Justin and I teamed up to make magazine cover portraits. We first thought about magazine ideas and brainstormed poses we wanted to photograph. I decided to pose in front of a Toyota pickup truck. Next we uploaded our photos into lightroom to add some final touches.

This week in photography our theme was natural land art. We created “art pieces” with natural things we could find around campus such as leaves, rocks and sand. We then photographed them with our DSLR cameras. Finally we uploaded them to adobe Lightroom and did some light editing. This project taught us to be creative with resources we had around us.

This week in photography we used Digital SLR cameras for the first time. We took pictures with an abstract perspective and toggled with the exposure, shutter speed and focus. We then uploaded the images into Adobe Lightroom and learned basic photo editing skills, such as cropping, and color correction.

This week in photography we continued to develop portraits. We continued to implement similar techniques we have learned before such as using test strips, controlling contrast and grain, and dodging and burning. Above is a picture of Jaden, I used a grid technique for this photo.

This week in photography we made portraits. A portrait is a painting, drawing, photograph, or engraving of a person, especially one depicting only the face or head and shoulders. We used similar techniques that we had used before in the darkroom such as dodging and burning. The photo above is a portrait of Jaden in football gear.

This week in photography we got to use SLR cameras. We learned the basic functions of the camera and learned to control exposure through aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. We then learned to develop the film in a film real. To develop the film we put different chemicals into the container and shook it. Once the film dried we reflected the film on to film paper.
