adult trio reacting to realizing suddenly that they do have romantic feelings towards the person they are dating?

This one was kind of hard for me, because I think at least two of them, Hisoka and Chrollo, would have to have some kind of romantic feelings before they start dating, but here is my best attempt!

Chrollo Lucilfer

He started this relationship for less than honest reasons, they were rich, influential, strong, and most of all useful. They were a pawn to him, and that’s all they were meant to be. But, ever so often, it seemed like he was checking in on them more often even going so far as to ask about their mood with some genuine interest behind it. They shared interests and he appreciate how smart they were, about things he knew things about; he grew attached to their presence before he really realized it.

Now that their usefulness to him was gone, or at least their original purpose in his life, he initially planned on killing them. But standing there, his book in hand, he just couldn’t do it; he no longer wanted to. Instead, he embraces them from behind instead solidifying the fact that maybe they meant much, much more to him than a mere pawn.

Hisoka Morow

Hisoka loved all of his toys in his toy chest to come extent, though the love he has for them is anything but normal. He kept them around in this sort of relationship for a few reasons, but the most prevalent of which is to preserve them, nurture them, let their powers flourish before ultimately killing them at their full potential. He’s planning similar things with Gon, but unlike Gon he also uses them for physical pleasure as well. Naturally he won’t express that plan to his S/O, that he’s merely buying his time before he plans on killing them; but if they know Hisoka well, he’s dropped quite a few hints as to their ultimate fate.

Unlike the other two, his plans aren’t nearly as set in stone. If he keeps you around for longer, than that’s fine, if he loses interest and kills you faster, that’s also fine. But it’s the lack of wanting to kill them that’s the most jarring for him. Blood lust, especially around people he likes, is usually quite high but now that it’s all gone near his S/O he’s a bit put off. He probably takes some time for himself, at the arena for example, before he comes back. At which point he comes back at engages in physical intimacy again, after which he feels like nothings really changed other than the fact that he’s keeping you around, for a very long time.

Illumi Zoldyck

When he was first coupled with his partner, he had very little interest in them outside of his duty as a Zoldyck. They existed to be a political partner and insist in carrying on his family; that was the end of their role in his mind. He spent a the smallest amount of time with them, no more than absolutely necessary. However, during those times when they were together he noticed that, like Killua, he had a strange desire to stick around around them a bit more than necessary under the guise of protecting and guiding them. He didn’t really mean for it to happen, but neither he nor his family mind his new found interest in his partner.

He doesn’t particularly mind his newfound obsession, this affection was something he never expected to find in anyone outside of his family but the longer it went on the less it mattered. He spends all his free time with them, usually in their immediate personal space, trying to learn more. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on what you like, each new thing he learns he loves them even more.
