Colson Baker x Reader ; JP Cappelletty x Reader
Prompt: Colson comes back to you but you’ve fallen for someone else.
Warnings: swearing, (is heartbreak a warning?)
A/N: this is a part 2 to my other Colson/JP one shot and i’m pretty sure it’s way longer so I’m sorry (not really). hope you all enjoy.
It had been almost five months since Colson chose his girlfriend over your friendship. You were torn up about it for the first few weeks but the guys made it nearly impossible. They made sure you were rarely alone and always occupied doing something with them. AJ and Baze taught you how to play guitar. Slim taught you how to roll the perfect backwood, after many, many fails. You’d practically moved in with how much you were at the house. Colson was usually hiding away in his room or not home when you were there. They were taking a few months off before their next tour after the success of dropping General Admission.
Rook had been the one to spend the most time with you. He took you out for food, to go shopping, even to Disneyland at one point. He wanted to make sure you were never alone with your thoughts because he knew how deep your inner demons ran. He would take you on long drives in the middle of the night if you called and said you couldn’t sleep. He’d find one of the tallest hills in Los Angeles and you’d lay on the hood of the car staring at the stars. You would talk about anything or nothing at all but it didn’t matter to you. Just having him there made the hole in your heart smaller and smaller with each day. He’d drive you home and if you fell asleep in the car, he’d take you to their house and put you in his bed while he slept on the couch.
One night was rough and you’d spent hours crying about everything you felt was wrong with you. Rook held you in the driver’s seat of his car and shushed you. He insisted you were one of the most perfect people he’d ever met. Hearing you talk so lowly of yourself had tears burning in his own eyes. When he placed you in his bed, half asleep, you reached for him and asked him to stay. He hesitated but your small hands tugging at his shirt made him cave. “Okay,” he whispered into the dark room and slipped off his shirt, black sweatpants adorning his legs in the cold room.
Rook slipped under the blanket and made himself comfortable, trying not to lay too close to you. He didn’t want you to think he had the wrong intentions no matter how badly he wanted to pull you close and never let you go. But when your warm body was suddenly pressed against his and your legs tangled together he felt his heart swell. He wrapped his muscular arms around you and held you against his chest the whole night as the two of you slept.
When you woke up the next day you were alone and the spot where Rook had slept was cold. You sat up with puffy eyes and messy hair as the bathroom door opened and the brunette male stepped out, freshly showered and clothed. He walked over to the bed with a smile and placed a gentle kiss to your forehead. “There’s a clean towel and a change of clothes in there for you,” he whispered before turning and walking towards the door.
“Hey Rook?” you piped up before he left and watched him turn, blue eyes meeting yours. “Thank you,” you smiled and twiddled your thumbs in your lap.
“Always,” he grinned and winked before shutting the door behind him as he left.
The first time the two of you kissed for real, not an alcohol induced sloppy one, was something you’d both been waiting for. You were at the house with the guys and out in the pool. Music played from the outdoor speakers as beers flowed and smoke filled the air. Rook jumped in the pool right by you, causing a splash to hit you directly in the face. A shriek left your lips as a war of splashes started. Rook grabbed you and pulled you against his chest so your arms were pinned. The two of you laughed as water ran down your faces.
As Rook looked down at you, he became mesmerized by your bright eyes and stunning smile. You stared up at him and watched as his eyes flickered from your own eyes to your lips. In an instant, he leant down as you tilted your head up to meet him halfway. Your lips pressed together awkwardly at first. It was short and rushed as you both pulled away quickly.
Rook looked shocked and like he was about to apologize but you wiggled your hands free and placed them on the back of his neck, pulling him down again. This time your lips connected perfectly. The underlying sexual tension between you two seemed to melt away with every synchronized move of your lips. When you pulled back in felt like your mouth was numb and tingly, the smile on Rook’s face caused you to let out a chuckle.
“‘Bout time!” you both heard Slim yell, causing the whole group to laugh.
There was never a definitive moment that you and Rook became a couple. There was never a conversation of “what are we?” There was just an understanding that the two of you cared greatly for each other and wanted something more. You kissed openly in front of your friends and held hands in public. You were his and he was yours. The only person who was completely oblivious to that was Colson.
One day, in the middle of a hot Californian summer, a cookout was happening at the house. There were lots of people hanging out outside where Basil was grilling as well as moving in and out of the kitchen for beverages of their choice. You stood at the counter cutting up fruit for people to snack on when you heard the front door open and then shut heavily. You looked up as Colson entered the kitchen and felt a knot form in your stomach. His intense gaze met yours solidly for the first time in months.
“Hey,” he greeted and walked around the counter to where you stood, eyeing the display of juicy fruit.
“Hi,” your voice came out softer and squeakier than you wanted it to.
Colson moved behind you and you sucked in a sharp breath when his arms wrapped themselves around your waist and he squeezed you tightly. He pressed his face into your shoulder, nose grazing your shoulder blade. For a moment you felt relaxed before you became overwhelmed and turned in his arms, pushing him away.
“What the hell are you doing?” you asked as you set the knife down and crossed your arms over your chest.
“I’ve missed you,” Colson responded and rubbed the back of his neck. “Amber and I just broke up so I… I just thought-“
“You thought what?” you interrupted him with a stern voice and furrowed brow. “You thought I’d just hop into bed with you cause you’re lonely like I used to?”
Colson was speechless. He stared at you with mouth ajar and eyes wide. You were saying everything you needed to say and you weren’t about to hold back anymore.
“I loved you, Kells. I loved you more than anyone and you broke me. You knew, deep down, but still treated me like another girl. You dropped me and pretended like I didn’t exist for six months. But things have changed. I’ve changed. And now that I’m finally happy you want to come back into my life? Now that I found someone who I truly love and know feels the same way? This is bullshit,” you were nearly shouting by the time you were done.
“Everything okay I’m here?” Rook’s voice caused your head to snap his way. His worried eyes met your angered ones and for a moment, you forgot there was a party happening.
You breathed in deeply through your nose and forced a smile to your lips. “Everything’s fine. I’ll be out in a minute,” you answered calmly but the shaking in your voice said otherwise.
Rook simply nodded once and retreated back out the patio door. You didn’t know how much he’d heard but by the look on his face you were sure he’d heard enough. You turned back to the plate of fruit you’d made and picked up, hardly sparing a glance Colson’s way.
“I’m sorry,” you heard him say but you didn’t answer. You walked out the patio door and over to the table where some people were sitting. You set the fruit platter down next to some of the other food and walked over to the chair Rook had made his own.
Colson watched through the window as you leant down and planted a kiss to Rook’s plump lips before taking a seat on his lap. The drummer wrapped his arm firmly around your waist and held you close with a smile.
Colson felt like his heart was being squeezed at the sight. He’d been so selfish for so long and pushed you straight into the ready arms of his best friend. He found himself wishing he could turn back time and change everything and maybe it would be his lap you were sitting on. His hand you were holding and his lips you were kissing. But he fucked it up and he had to live with that. So with a sigh and shake of his head, Colson swallowed his pride and stepped out onto the patio. He put on a smile and pretended to laugh with his friends when really, his heart was breaking every second he had to watch you with Rook.
