pretty sure i did not do that. so anyway i had a whole idea for a simple eddsworld au where the only different thing was that their heights would be accurate to whatever i calculated them to be, so let me elaborate on their “mathematical heights” and how i figured them out.
details below the cut since its kinda long _(:3 」∠)_
i started with edd because, well, obviously. i needed to find a reference point to measure his height. i decided on a screenshot from “sugar, sugar” and i used the cans of cola as a measurement unit. 1 cola can is 4.8 inches tall, and in the screenshot i was using, edd was six and a half cola cans tall. 6 x 4.8 + 2.4 (half a can) = 31.2 inches, so edd is 31.2 inches tall which makes him around 2.6 feet tall, or approx. 2’7”.
image with my proof:
now, for this one i wanted to double check to make sure i was right in my findings. im not entirely sure why, but i did. i looked for different drawings where he was holding a can of cola and i found the thumbnail for zombeh nation.
as you can see i traced the can and stacked it down, using his *ELBOW as a benchmark. (i just realized i have been consistently writing “shoulder” every single time ive talked about this before the writing of this post. that is beside the point, though.)
i checked back on the first screenshot to stack the cans from the top down, the same way i did in the second one, and i saw that the benchmark was basically the same. this means that edd is consistently drawn at the height i calculated.
next character’s height i calculated: tom.
as the image below suggests, we can infer that these harpoons that tom is holding in this scene are whaling harpoons. this is good because now i was able to get a better height benchmark, since i assume length varies between different kinds of harpoons.
the average length of a whaling harpoon is 5 or 6 feet long according to a quick google search. i decided to go with the middle of these two and assume that these harpoons were each 5.5 feet in length.
i traced one of the harpoons he was holding in the scene i got the screenshot from and measured him with them. he is 1 and a half harpoons tall.
NOTE VERY IMPORTANT NOTE PLS READ: there is a bit of human error in the full image with all of my calculations. i wrote that he is 2 and a half harpoons tall even though he is 1 and a half, and i also did the math as 1 and a half, so it was really the writing equivalent of a typo, but i just thought i would let you all know. thank you and we now return to the actual post.
like the image below says, the combined height of 1 and a half harpoons is 8.25 feet, meaning that tom is 8’3”.
next up: tord, aka the only one with an average human height according to all this math.
i used this scene from one of the zombeh nation videos(? i honestly sort of forgot which one its from but its the scene where theyre in the “bathmobile”) where he is holding a baseball bat. now you may be thinking something like “how are you measuring his height if hes sitting?” and to that i say that i drew lines of each individual straight part, then i stacked them all on top of each other. after that i was able to properly measure his height. i traced the baseball bat he was holding to find that he is approximately 2 and one fourth baseball bats tall.
now, assuming he just grabbed a random bat, i looked up the average length of a baseball bat, which google said is between 24 and 34 inches, therefore i went with the median(?) of those two numbers, that being 29 inches.
58 inches (length of 2 bats end to end) + 7.25 inches (one fourth of a bat) equals 65.25 inches = 65.25 inches, or 5.4 feet, making him 5’5”.
image of my math:
last but not least: matt.
now, i actually had an extremely difficult time looking for scene in which i could find something to measure his height with, which also had his whole body in frame. over the course of two whole days i scoured the internet to no avail, until i thought to check the episodes from eddsworld beyond. i had finally found a scene i could use from the episode “the beaster bunny” in which matt is sitting on a barstool getting his face painted.
the average height of a barstool is between 29 and 30 images, so i went with a middle number of 30.5 inches, as i had been doing.
since he was sitting on the stool, i had to straighten out his height like i did with tord. after this, i made a line the same height as the barstool and used that to measure. matt is 4 and a half barstools tall, so 122 inches (4 barstools) + 15.25 (half a barstool) = 137.25 inches, or 11.4 feet, meaning that matt is 11’5”.
image of my math:
now, after having taken all of these heights into account, i made a height chart of all the guys.
behold, what eddsworld SHOULD look like, mathematically speaking at least (/j):
hopefully you all enjoyed my math. please remember i am not a professional mathematician i just do math for fun sometimes, therefore there might be some incorrect aspects to my calculations. yes i am aware tom is confirmed to be the shortest and that is why im saying this is an au. thank you for coming to my ted talk.
did i ever post about how i did the math and calculated the heights of the main four eddsworld guys (the characters not the real ppl that would be kinda fuckin weird if it was the real ppl)
