this is out of left field but a book rec list!! specifically, books that have to deal with consumption of women/cannibalism/ecofeminist themes (basically, feminist, food-centric horror)
1. The Vegetarian by Han Kang
This book is SO good but definitely check the trigger warnings. Told from three different perspectives, it follows a woman after she has a life-altering dream that makes her go vegetarian, much to the dismay of her family. The thing that stuck with me most about this book is how it portrays the normalized but profound betrayals by men that women experience. It’s a mix of “The Yellow Wallpaper” and My Year of Meats
2. My Year of Meats by Ruth Ozeki
Another meat-centric book! This one switches between two women, one in America and one in Japan, as they navigate the world of meat consumption and how patriarchy and misogyny are reflected in it. There’s a very mixed-media feel to this as every section starts with a poetry excerpt by Sei Shonogan and one of the main characters, Jane Takagi-Little, is directing a series on American meat consumption to promote eating meat in Japan. All of Ruth Ozeki’s books are wonderful so if you like this, you should read them all.
3. Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterriva
This one is straight up cannibalism. It’s about a man, Marcos, who works at a meat processing plant that makes “special meat” (human) and is gifted a “specimen” for him to eventually slaughter himself. The specimen is a woman, Jasmine, who Marcos eventually forms a relationship with. This one is overtly dystopian and although certainly very dark, a little more palatable because it allows the reader to feel more distant from the reality of the book. Of course, though, there is till some very striking commentary on the abuse and exploitation of animals, women, and people as a whole.
4. What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
This one is different from the others in that the consumption comes from fungus and not literal people, but there’s still a deep-seated sense of rot. The main character, Alex Easton, returns to the ancestral home of their childhood friend as they learn she’s dying. There is a distinct supernatural element to this, but still very heavy with animal and body horror.
5. A Certain Hunger by Chelsea Summers
Dorothy Daniels, the main characters, is a food critic, sex lover, and psychopath. This one, again, explores the relationship between the treatment of women as sexual beings and commercialized consumption. Also, again, cannibalism. However, this one is very White Feminism, so take that into mind.
all of these books are very good but all have very heavy trigger warnings, so please please look them up before reading. happy reading, my pals <3

🍄 Hozier Drabble Prompt List 🍄
"We were born sick," you heard them say it
Command me to be well
Good God, let me give you my life
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
Only then I am clean
she found me just in time
She's gonna save me
Call me "baby"
Don't take this the wrong way
You knew who I was
I fall in love just a little
Would things be easier if there was a right way?
All I've ever done is hide
But you don't know what hell you put me through
It feels good
Oh to be alone with you
There are questions I can't ask
I know that you hate this place
we should run away,
But I don't know what else that I would do
Don't you agree?
Get closer to me
there's something wretched about this
Where to begin
Something isn't right
I'm so full of love I could barely eat
No grave can hold my body down
I didn't care much how long I lived
I will not ask you where you came from
I knew that look
Honey, make this easy
I'm something else when I see you
Don't let me in with no intention to keep me
But still my heart is heavy
Be good to me
What caused the wound?
My dearest love I'm not done yet
I need you to run to me
You soon find you have few choices
All you have is your fire
Don't you ever tame your demons
My love will never die
It's not the waking, it's the rising
Honey, belongs to me
I couldn't utter my love when it counted
Then when I met you, my virtues uncounted
I'm almost me again, she's almost you
I wouldn't know where to start
Be still my foolish heart
The very thought of you and am I blue
I get along without you very well
When you move, I'm moved
I could never define all that you are to me
So move me
My heart is thrilled by the still of your hand
There's no plan
Sit in and watch the sunlight fade
Your secret is safe with me
Whatever here that's left of me is yours just as it was
How long you would wait for me
Imagine being loved by me
Be as you've always been
Hell is the talking type
Oh your love is sunlight
I'm in love with you

y’all, i know most mommy bloggers are usually absolutely vile, and the “wine o’clock” culture is so annoying, but really think about it: why don’t we talk about how alarming it is that mothers feel the need to constantly talk about wine, drink wine, buy trinkets that have quirky sayings about wine, and yet no one is concerned that maybe patriarchal marriage structures are contributing to alcoholism in women? why is it that, if a mommy blogger says she takes shots of tequila to get through her day it would be alarming, but having a wine tumbler that says “mommy juice” or “i wine because my kids whine” (a real thing i have seen online for purchase) isn’t… scary?
i just think we need to have conversations about how the structure of modern motherhood and marriage is maybe super harmful for women? and maybe one solution is to normalize men taking more responsibility in the home and as parents. this goes along with useless husband “jokes” where women chuckle over a bottle or two of wine (!!!) about how their husbands are so clueless and helpless. normalize husbands doing the cooking and dishes. normalize husbands taking part time work in order to care for the kids. it’s not about shifting power from husband to wife, it’s about deconstructing the need for power in the first place.

you have a problem with minor making boundaries on who they want to interact with? like seriously the purpose of carrds is to establish boundaries, like cranky that you couldnt interact with someone?
i have a problem with minors willingly placing so much incredibly personal information in a single place on the internet where literally anyone can see it and especially with the culture that has normalized this to the point where it is expected and anyone who doesn't want to share that information is automatically viewed as suspicious.
you have 13/14-year-old kids listing all sorts of information that makes them vulnerable to predators (including the fact that they are 13/14!!! that makes them vulnerable!!) and that can make it easier to narrow down their real life identity. that specific tweet didn't talk about location but i have seen children list their location and what school they go to, and that genuinely terrifies me. i've seen lgbt teenagers making public tweets about how they've been kicked out by their homophobic parents and need a place to stay in a specific city—you are literally broadcasting the fact that you are young and vulnerable and your family isn't looking for you!! ANYONE can see that! that's fucking dangerous!!!
and the idea that you should list your triggers all in one place is also incredibly dangerous, like i know the point is to let people know what to avoid but what you're actually doing is giving potential bullies or predators a ready-made list of things they can use to hurt and harrass you. all of the things that that person listed as "basic info" is stuff that can be used to target you. it lets other people know you're part of an in-group, yes, but it also puts a target on your back. i've gotten racist hate messages, homophobic hate messages, rape and death threats, and i'm fine because i'm an adult and i'm not online that much, but it still takes its toll and i cannot IMAGINE being 13 and opening yourself up to those things online because everyone is now expected to list their race and sexuality and fucking trauma and medical diagnoses for everyone to see as soon as they click their profile.
the problem with saying "xyz people dni" is that only the polite and respectful people will actually listen and not interact with you. the people who you should actually be worried about, the people who actually actively want to hurt you, will use the information that you have willingly provided them to target you. do you think putting "terfs and fascists dni" on your carrd is actually going to stop terfs and fascists from interacting with you? if they want to hurt you they will hurt you, expecting them to respect boundaries just because you have publicly stated them is leaving yourself extremely vulnerable.
make boundaries by using the block button liberally, or like i don't know setting your fucking profile to private. protect yourself by valuing your own privacy and not actively providing people who might harm you with the exact tools and ammunition they can use to do so.
the idea that i could only be upset by this trend because i ??? want to disrespect people's boundaries???? is so fucking bizarre. i made that post because i am legitimately terrified for these children's safety. not to be all kids these days, but LITERALLY kids these days are sharing their face, their identities, their entire lives, with the entire internet on a public platform without a second thought, and expecting their peers to do that as well, and it has real repercussions.
