I remember seeing images back in the day from a Japanese English textbook focused soley on how swearing and profanity work in English. It spread around a little because it contained many pictures of anime girls telling eachother to fuck off and calling things shit, but in otherwise weirdly formal English. I wish I could find it, but when I look it up none of the books that come up are the one I'm thinking of.

It’s so crazy how parents of kids who survived the troubled teen industry act like the primary victims. “How was I supposed to know that my weed smoking son was telling the truth about being sexually, physically and emotionally abused at that place? He never forgave me and he won’t talk to me. It’s so vindictive.” You paid to have him kidnapped and tortured. He begged you to help. You are almost certainly the reason he was a ‘troubled teen’ in the first place. You gave him PTSD. I’d never speak to you again either.

"The presenters for the next Splatoon game should be this, the presenters for the next Splatoon game should that" I think the presenters for the next Splatoon game should textually acknowledge the game-mechanical conceit of gender as a fashion statement and sometimes be an idol group and sometimes be a boy band, and the closest anyone ever gets to remarking on it in character is a running gag where one of the group members will show up as the wrong gender and catch shit for being out of theme.

I don't disagree with criticisms that a lot of the goopy eroticism-of-the-machine stuff the Tumblr Armored Core VI fandom likes to represent as universal giant robot tropes is actually pretty specific to the Armored Core franchise (and is often heavily extrapolated from what's actually present in the text of the games, at that), but when I think about it, that's actually weird to me. Why isn't giant robot media where the giant robot and its pilot are clearly fucking more well established in the genre? It feels like a tolerably obvious direction to take it, and it's not like giant robot media has ever shied away from sex in general.
