Thiiissssss. They are already Mr ans Mrs Farnon in almost all but the official paperwork
tristan is really such a light in the show, i’m so delighted he’s back, and i also adore the way he further highlights the bond siegfried and audrey share.
the dread audrey felt when the telegram arrived, the shared emotion when she handed it over and the way she couldn’t bear to be far away while siegfried read it; their strong and fierce love for that boy unites them in such a personal way.
when she asked if siegfried wanted her to accompany him to the station to meet tristan, his face melted for a second before he kindly declined. he knows she’s there to lean on, to support him, and he truly couldn’t be more grateful for her as always. and then siegfried stood in the doorway watching tristan and audrey embrace, his family reunited again.
nobody else besides their parents or evelyn could really share in that worry and that love that they both have for tris, and i’m glad he has a mother figure in mrs hall. over the years she’s been at skeldale, it’s never been more apparent that she is so, so much more than their housekeeper.

Can we just talk about that couch scene? I know the episode was Tristan and Carmody centred and that was also great and I love that they did that and showed us the two of them together (and Carmody's cute awkwardness).
But. The couch!
First of all: Siegfried says "Here's to an undisturbed night." when they both admit a minute later that they love it when the house is full. However, he's tried to have a nightcap with her for a couple of times and her warden duties got in the way twice. Not this time. It also of course alludes to Siegfried's hope that Tristan and Carmody won't wake him in the middle of the night again.
And now they finally have an evening just for themselves which is something we rarely see for them. It shows how much of a father and mother figure they are, heads of Skeldale, the two people who hold it all together. Especially true in Audrey's case.
Compare it with their shared evening in 3.5 where they were also very open and honest with each other. But in contrast to 5.4 Siegfried used "us" and he added a "believe me" because they were talking about Edward at first. And Siegfried extended his assessment about Audrey's talk with her son to Skeldale. Where Audrey cares for every single one of them. Whereas in 5.4 he's talking about himself. In both scenes there is a compliment directed at her from him. Gratitude, efforts. He sees her, he sees what she does and how important her presence, her wisdom, her empathy is for every single one of them. This is once more highlighted. Especially when it comes to Siegfried who at first didn't believe Audrey's words that Tristan might feel being left out. Instead of a simple "you were right of course, as always" (from 5.2) he lists facts.
They really have come so far on their journey.

Do not fret my fellow Siegfried x Audrey fans out there. If anything, the episode proved that Siegfried had forgotten other women even existed ever since he realised things were serious between Audrey and Gerald. These two things coincided, let's not forget. It also proves that he hates for his reputation as being habile with the ladies to be questioned or for Tristan to have one over him so he has to overcompensate. And lastly it made a point of showing us what really matters to him at the end. Not the book and therefore the potential romance with this woman, but the nurturance and care for his family. Hence why he dropped the damned thing and instead chose to go to the pub. Look at her face of disapproval when Siegfried first declined to go for a pint.

It's also very deliberate on the writers' part to have Audrey ask about said book, only for him to instantly dismiss it as a tedious read.
To me, it's obvious that it was about showing what a true pair bond looks like. Showing Audrey dutifully listening to Siegfried's concerns, offering advice which he immediately finds enlightening and useful? And both of them listening in on Richard's conversation over the phone with matching looks of fondness on their face? What was it that Carmody said? Ah yes:
"Humans generally thrive in pair bonds".
It is not as overt as what we are used to seeing certainly, but that's what makes this show so delicious. It's all in the little things. The nuances and the unsaid which define human relationships. It's closer to life. In fact, Siegfried phrased it perfectly to Carmody:
"There is a pace at which these things are done. A subtlety."
Also, an episode called Pair Bond and this is how these two are framed in the shot?? HELLO!!
Tumblr media
I think the context is also important to remember. She's his employee. It would have been considered outrageously scandalous within the local community, I assume, for a gentleman and his housekeeper to have a romantic relationship. I think Siegfried knows precisely what gem he has under his roof, and also that the last thing he wants is to bring shame and potential ruin on such a pious, saintly woman. He won't allow himself to go there.
It will take something even more Earth-shattering than her potential departure for him to finally acknowledge that he fancies the pants off of her. With the implicit fallout that he will inevitably have to face. I can't wait.

This show and its insanity when it comes to cast Audrey Hall’s look-a-likes to proof Siegfried has a type and one type only 🤩😋😊

When Audrey receives a telegram from Edward/or about him she needs someone to hold on to. A shoulder to lean on, arms that support her. She cannot go through this on her own no matter how strong she is and that she can fight her own battles.
All the boys except her own are home and safe now. This must weigh heavily on her heart already. There is joy and relief but also the worry about Edward.
For the last decade and more she has fought her own battle when it came to her son and now ex-husband. I think s5 has so far shown us that she is ready to ask for and accept help and search the comforting warmth of her Skeldale family. And no longer tries to deal with everything on her own. She is the person who hugs everyone. It's time she receives them.
