With the threat of climate change plaguing our society and environment, it seems our world is being swept into new disasters one after the next. From volcanic eruptions in Indonesia to flash floods in India, super-typhoons in the Philippines to the mass-murdering hurricanes in Haiti--communities have been passing the torch signifying our next, upcoming, great natural disaster.

One of the most interesting disasters, recently, would be the California fires of 2021. It was not because of the range that these fires took on, nor because of the sheer amount of fires that took place. It was because of the reaction that our country had to the fires.

In 2021, over 7,300 fires took place spanning over 2,500,000 acres. The McFarland fire destroyed more than 122,000 acres itself. The Monument fire of Trinity took down 223,124 acres. The insane Dixie fire set aflame 963,309 acres of the Butte, Plumas, Shasta, Lassen and Tehama regions.

Yet it wasn't this shocking destruction that brought the American people to their knees. It wasn't the various communities decimated, it wasn't the family homes destroyed, or the people killed. These fires became so famous and spread further than their flames reached because of the certain people it affected. What shocked our community the most was that our family-favorite celebrities, the musicians, actors, comedians, and artists that we all know and love, were being forced to leave their homes and relocate. The people who we believed to be invincible were having everything they owned destroyed. These almost god-like creatures were being helped by the everyday man. The saviors and humanitarians, the activists and the heroes needed help from the very people that watched them on television or listened to them on the radio. The California fires brought out a sense of humanity in fame, and almost shortened the divide between the classes. L.A. and its suburbs were no longer their own, unattainable, Mount Olympus, but just another region of California being razed by the terribly unfortunate, hot, summer fires.
