That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown land and the knowledge that you come across. Nothing can replace it. It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships, from the sharing of life-or-death situations, are born. But hearing it just isn't the same....I want to create my own magnificent story! A great Adventure! Because an adventure....is a man's romance!

For a moment there was an urge to pull back. Fear lingered within Sinbad's eyes although his expression remained stable. Years of maintaining his cool and playful facade seemed to be tested right then, the king not standing a chance against one whom he used to reveal everything to without a second thought. The story she mentioned seemed conveinent, one that could be accepted without question. But in a world where Al-Sarmen pulled the strings behind the sense doubt still lingered in his mind.
"I'm not-?"
His voice wavered and it made Sinbad wince internally. Her touch was warm, reminding him of a world and a time he had long since forgotten. "I've just grown is all." His smile was forced, surely his mother could see that as Sinbad resisted pulling away. "Where's....Dad?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Well, I…I don’t really remember. One minute I was at home, and I thought I saw your father…then I saw you….and then I was laying in the shallow water of a sea I didn’t recognize. Your guess is as good as mine, really…but there was your father right beside me. So we decided to make a home for ourselves, and…well, here we are." She smiled at him and reached out to squeeze his hand.
"What a fine man you’ve grown up to be..!"

There was a grin upon Sinbad's face as the shawl was pushed so roughly into his own broad chest. Arms raising defensively, the monarch caught the fabric before it could fall with a feigned expression of shock at Ja'far's brash behavior. "I don't know what you're referring to." Still grinning Sinbad moved to drape the fabric upon the edge of his dresser. "I was merely covering my own tail, so to speak." Once assured of his shawl not falling, Sinbad began to slowly discard himself of the various adornments decorating his body. Metal vessels bumping lightly into one another, the lavender haired male seemed to take special care of laying the items out to rest before he was turning once more to face his advisor. Truth be told, it was only in this man and his other general's presence that Sinbad ever felt peaceful with becoming so defenseless and while some of it could certainly be attributed to the fact that Sinbad had already bested them all within the past the majority of his comfort came from the fact that there was no one he trusted more.
"From awhile ago."
Sinbad admitted to the wine's age as he moved to join Ja'far at the table. However, rather than sitting across from the advisor or away from him the king slid easily into the spot beside him. "The heliohapt advisor had brought it along with a few others that Sharrkan helped me to finish." Smirking at the memory Sinbad reached out to take his own glass into hand. A moment later and the king was sampling it, allowing the taste to saturate his tongue before he was leaning back for a quick mouthful. "Theirs isn't heavy so I thought it'd be more to your taste." Eyebrow quirking up Sinbad cocked his head to the side as if to inquire as to whether or not Ja'far would drink or just look at his own glass.
Tumblr media
"I must know, has my hiding spot been preserved or was all my effort in vain? You aren't as light as you once were, y'know."
That was not an opportunity to take a jab at his age and consequently decreasing strength, Ja'far. Choose your next words carefully.
"Although back then it was even harder to carry you. I was fearful of getting a knife in the eye if I agitated you enough."
Being carried over Sinbad’s shoulder was embarrassing enough but he was even less inclined to tolerate it the second time. Bickering about it did very little to phase the king but somewhere within those five minutes that he spent meandering through the halls Ja’far finally took matters into his own hands and freed himself, if only for the last stretch of hallway that ended at Sinbad’s chambers. This game of pushing the advisors buttons that he had played against him since their youth never grew stale.
"Just one." He had previously let the other’s initial question go unanswered but the mild threat of having to be ordered to indulge the monarch’s fancy prompted him to finally answer as he was guided through the door.
Even if he couldn’t see right away there was a sensation of familiarity in the room that prickled at his skin. It was one of the few places in which the strict roles of their titles could unwind just a single hair to reveal their true camaraderie beneath it all. In those moments the lives which they live could rewind to the days when Sindria was barely even a joke uttered on drunken lips.
At last he was given the instructions to take off the shawl, cradling the bottles in the crook of one arm as he slid his palm under the tight cloth and slipped it off of his head. Hardly the type to just drop it onto the floor he instead shoved the fabric into the other’s chest.
Tumblr media
"The next time you pull a stunt like that I won’t be so inclined to humor you." He could only thank the heavens that no one had seen them, or at least as far as he knew. The last thing he needed was word of the king carrying around one of his generals like a barbarian drifting through the palace.
He approached the nearby sitting area where plush pillows surrounded a small round table that was readily equipped with an empty pitcher and a set of chalices. He need not be asked to serve the wine, it was simply in his nature to do so without being asked. One of the two bottles had already been opened so he set the unopened one to the side in hopes it wouldn’t need to be used and busied himself with pouring a serving for the two of them.
"This isn’t a domestic wine." he inquired, having noticed the foreign label. "Was it a gift?"

"That's the spirit!"
Grinning widely Sinbad stepped away from the dresser to grab at Ja'far's shoulders. Trusting the general had a strong enough grip on the bottles the monarch gave him a quick spin before he was throwing the light haired male up into his arms. However, unlike when he was younger, the sudden weight wasn't taken too kindly and Sinbad staggered a moment before he was able to adjust to holding Ja'far in his arms. Groaning at himself for that the monarch quickly began to move least Ja'far realize what had happened and started to mock him for it.
Tumblr media
"You'll have a drink or two as well, I trust?"
Although Sinbad's bedroom wasn't all too far from the chambers he was quietly within the Monarch chose to head in the opposite direction. Spending five or so minutes wandering around the halls to throw Ja'far further off merely seemed beneficial at this point even if it delayed Sinbad's chance to drink. The last thing he wanted was for the assassin to discover the wine was hidden within the advisor's own bedroom.
"I'll issue your drinking with me as an order if I must."
Once through covering his trail Sinbad finally moved back up to where his own bedroom was located near the top of the tower. Unlike with Ja'far's room his own was far from bare. Bright linens, incense, pillows, and various other decorative pieces were scattered about the room. Several pieces didn't even seem to come from within Sindria, the wear and tear upon them revealing a time traveled look. On one side of the room was a door leading to his own connecting, private bath while the other possessed a balcony for the king to watch over his country from. There were no curtains but instead the room opened freely up to the night sky.
"Alright. You can remove the blindfold now."
Once his head stopped feeling like it was spinning his palms slid down to this face and tugged at the shawl wrapped around his eyes to sneak a peek at their surroundings. “This isn’t a matter of being dropped, it’s the fact that you are making both of us look ridiculous.” The gap in time between where they had previously been to now did effectively leave him clueless as to where they were at first and being held semi-upside down didn’t help much either. The staircase was probably the most telling feature but he knew there were three different sets of staircases within the tower. Now, which staircase was it…?
Ack…
The subtle bouncing of his stomach on Sinbad’s shoulder with each step was going to make him ill if this nonsense didn’t stop anytime soon. The quiet pained groan he made from this stomach churning realization was muffled by the king’s own clothing that kept rubbing against his face.
Tumblr media
Ja’far quickly but quietly pushed the shawl back over his eyes once he heard Sinbad open a door, and with several moment’s patience he was finally released. He could hear what sounded like Sinbad moving furniture about nearby, but he instead chose to focus on slipping one of his hands behind his back to see if he could somehow use his sense of touch to find something nearby that could be identified. His hand grasped in vain for any sort of surface, and he considered taking bolder action until the other male handed him the bottles and thus forced him to call off his search.
"It doesn’t make much of a difference either way." he answered with a defeated sigh as he curled both arms around the bottles to ensure he didn’t drop them. "But I would rather have you bumbling into your own bed afterwards rather than turning you loose to drunkenly navigate through the hallways."

There were several things running through Sinbad's mind at that moment. Things like how it was impossible for this to have happened, how he probably really was drunk and should have listened to Ja'far, and how wrong and yet wonderful everything felt at that moment-
But little helped to explain the situation and what answers his mind could provide only inspired more questions.
Tumblr media
"But this is ... "
She had died.
She had died because he hadn't been there.
She had died alone.
"How long have you...How did you get here?"
Tumblr media
Well now, how to explain it…gently or bluntly? Seeing as how she had very little idea of how to explain this gently (or, really, at all), it would have to be bluntly.
"Well…My name is Esla. And as for how I know your father, I was married to him!" She smiled warmly. "Hello dear. Please don’t panic!" she added as an afterthought.

The monarch's laughter echoed through the halls, his smile more relaxed as he hurried to take advantage of his companions temporary weakness. While there was a slight worry as to whether or not Ja'far would become sick from such treatment he had hopes of the man being able to regain his composure quick enough to step out of that immediate danger.
Besides - the king did have a bit to go before he could free his alcohol from its confinement. Hiding it within one of the other general's rooms was strictly out of the question, Ja'far having enough insight to recognize that Sharrkan and Pisti alike would be more than willing to assist him in his plans. If anything Sinbad was forced to hide the tonics in the one place that Ja'far barely ever stepped foot into.
The sort of place that his advisor surely considered safe from the king's reach.
Tumblr media
"Don't worry. I won't drop you as long as you don't needlessly struggle, Ja'far."
After turning down a hall and moving up another staircase the sound of a key opening up a door could be heard. A moment later and Sinbad was stepping into the almost completely bare bedroom. Hardly anyone was ever allowed in this room, its occupant preferring that not even the cleaning staff touch his things, and this resulted in a greater ease for the king to hide his things in here.
Tumblr media
"We're almost done. Would you prefer drinking in my own room or yours?"
Setting Ja'far down Sinbad waited to make sure he was settled on his own feet before he was moving a dresser out of the way just to make noise and pretend as though that was where his wine was located. However, rather than pulling bottles out from the floor boards beneath it, the king was instead opening a secret drawer near the bottom. A moment later and Sinbad was passing two bottles of wine towards Ja'far for him to hold before moving everything back.
"Mm?" Ja’far’s statement appeared to ruffle a few more feathers than he had originally intended since their pace had come to an abrupt halt. He was then shortly granted a few precious moments of sight that only verified what he already knew about their location only to have it stolen away once more in the form of the now appropriate blindfold covering his eyes. The king’s response had an air of roguish intent that the advisor had little time to question before he was sent twirling.
Tumblr media
"E-Eh?! What are you doing?!" This was absolutely ridiculous! Forget mild regret, Ja’far wanted off of this crazy ‘adventure’ or whatever this was immediately. For once the looseness and length of his clothing worked against him as Sinbad pushed and pulled him about in a circular motion and made it difficult for him to grab or hold onto much of anything, shouting his objections until his speech slurred from dizziness all the while.
What shame, the fatigue that afflicted him so made him a victim once more to the king’s antics.
"Don’t you dare—!" Too late, he could only do so much when the disoriented man was lifted off the ground and slung over Sinbad’s shoulder. It was unsettling to be so disconnected from what was going on around him, but it didn’t take too much to understand the compromising position he had now found himself in. It left him feeling vulnerable and volatile which could either spell for a humorous or disastrous experience for his captor.
"Eurgh—" Ja’far groaned, arms curling around his head in a feeble attempt to try to regain inner equilibrium long after he had already stopped spinning. "Put me down right now! This is no way for a king to treat someone!" Let alone his own advisor.

Sinbad would probably argue that if anything this was incentive to drink more but for some reason doing so with this woman seemed ill mannered.
Tumblr media
"Pardon the late question, ma'am. But what is your name? How did you know my father?"
For surely it was impossible for this woman to be as he thought she was.
Tumblr media
"Oh great, you drink like your father and then some…maybe this will serve as incentive to stop drinking so much!"
Oh, she’d tell him that she wasn’t a hallucination in a few minutes.

Surprise flitted across Sinbad's face when Morgiana's question pierced through his thoughts. Having not realized that his expression had taken on a more worried facade the king quickly switched his thoughts to the present in order to hide the trail his mind had taken. Eyebrows unknitting Sinbad's lips switched to a smile while amber hues observed the fanalis girl before him. "Ah~? Of course not. I was just considering some work I had to finish this week." At least business for Sindria would not make sense to the redhead so as prevent her pressing for further explanation. Not that Morgiana was the type to pry for information in the first place, of course.
Tumblr media
"But what are you doing out here by yourself, Morgiana? Training or looking for someone?"
zarrshah started following you
Morgiana looked up at the purple haired king. “Is something the matter, Mister Sinbad?”

The disappointment in Ja'far's voice only elicited a wider grin from his monarch. He could feel the waves of disapproval rolling down the smaller male's frame, the hold he held upon Sinbad's wrist serving as a type of warning. Ja'far was a keen man, more than others gave him credit for. Having been raised as an assassin the advisor was more than capable of finding his way through the dark and so the chances of his recognizing the path they were going to take were outrageously high-
As long as the man remained upon his own two feet.
Biting back his grin the monarch paused for a moment so that he could use his free hand to unravel the shawl from around his shoulders. A moment later and Sinbad was lifting the fabric up to loop it around Ja'far's eyes - once, twice - and tying it in a secure knot at the back of his head. "A little danger is what makes an adventure worth taking." When sure of his blindfold sufficing Sinbad was taking a step back. Hands falling onto Ja'far's shoulders the king forced his advisor to bend over slightly while hands quickly made him spin repetitively in a small, tight circle. "But I would still like to place luck within my own favor."
Tumblr media
The amusement was thick within Sinbad's voice as he continually spun Ja'far until he was sure the advisor was at least a little disoriented. Then, with barely any hesitation, the monarch was leaning down to lift Ja'far up and over one shoulder so as to prevent him from regaining his bearings.
"Now hold still for a moment and no peeking."
Now knowing his fate, his grip on Sinbad’s wrist had a completely different motive to anchor himsel. He felt a little silly having somehow agreed to go along with Sinbad’s ruse but thankfully he heard no telltale sounds of palace attendants moving about the halls nearby.
Tumblr media
"You’re playing a dangerous game then, aren’t you?" He didn’t even try to hide the abrasive disappointment in his voice. Ja’far had spent hours scouring every knook and cranny he could think of for the monarch’s hidden alcohol stash and had considered the palace in it’s entirety bone dry. If he was going to find this stash he was going to have to rely on his memory of the layout of the tower and pay careful attention to each twist and turn.
Concentrate, Ja’far. Concentrate.

Ja'far's remark wasn't one suited for a reply. To others his advisor's subservient demeanor probably seemed unusual, especially considering how Sinbad never seemed to demand such regards from his followers. But for them it was a natural interaction that had been developed throughout their years together. Sinbad would never argue that Ja'far had the choice to decline because they were both aware of the choice being there. However, time and time again the light haired male reaffirmed his loyalty through such minor interactions, coercing Sinbad to believe time and time again that the man was really in for the long haul.
"It is. It would be more convenient if I had some cloth though."
Chuckling once more the monarch began to guide his advisor into the tower, not yet removing his hand as though he were practicing some kind of trust exercise.
"After all, I need you to promise not to peek so as to ensure you won't find where I hide it in here."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"It would be selfish of me if I said no.” Waspish outer layer aside, if Sinbad called for his presence he wasn’t going to just say no without good reason. It didn’t sit with him well nor would it be an appropriate thing for an advisor to do.
This predatory stride and impish chuckling showed the man’s true intent and now he was beginning to mildly regret his decision. Ja’far raised a hand in retaliation to grasp Sinbad’s wrist, priming himself to remove it.
"Is this really necessary?" He didn’t try to pull his hand away though, not just yet. "What might that be?"

The tint to Sinbad's grin revealed his question as to whether or not he was even supposed to be learning a lesson with these prohibitions. While they were most certainly difficult and trying past occurrences were evidence of the kings managing to overcome the trials. Truth be told as horrible as they were to go through it at least enabled the taste of alcohol to be all the more sweeter the next time he managed to sneak a sip.
Well.
At least that is what he told himself upon getting through them so that his past misery seemed worth it.
Tumblr media
"I could, but wouldn't that sound selfish given your current state?"
Hand dropping, the king's hair fell over his shoulder when he leaned down to circle around the advisor. "Instead I'd rather phrase it in such a way that sounds as though I am more caring than that." Chuckling lowly Sinbad placed one hand over Ja'far's eyes. "However, you have to promise me something if you do agree to accompany me."
Tumblr media
In hindsight, he probably should have seen that request coming from miles and miles away.
"It’s only been two days since your last prohibition and yet you seem to have learned nothing." he scoffed. Here he thought Sinbad had something wholly important to say to him. A part of him was sort of relieved that it wasn’t since they weren’t in the most private of places.
With half a mind to refuse the king’s offer he stole another glance out of one of the nearby windows to try to be sure of the time, but the faint orange hue tinting the faraway night sky told him he couldn’t use an excuse of it being too late. It had also been some time since they were actually able to sit down privately and consult with one another on both important and casual matters… and thus he returned his gaze with the corner of his mouth curling in a half smile.
"If your intention was to ask for my company you could have just said so." Whether or not he would actually drink was still yet to be determined.

The sight of the advisor quietly accompanying Sinbad as an escort to the Purple Leo Tower as the sun began to dip beneath the distant ocean’s waves was a rare one one to behold. To drag Ja’far from his work before the last sliver of daylight disappeared was a struggle no brave soul was willing to tackle, but there was no way he could continue with his work until the documents he had been carefully slaving over were properly processed.
For the duration of their stroll he was silent, both humbled and irritated by the current situation. The satisfaction of completing his work was worth the time he put into it but he absolutely despised the waiting game that came along after it. Only stern words spoken by his king managed to summon him from his simmering thoughts.
"Yes?" he answered as his name was spoken, stopping at the other male’s side. The usual fatigue plagued the features on his face but he was every bit as attentive as he always was whenever Sinbad spoke to him. "I’m listening."
The risks that came with pushing his luck where his loyal advisor was concerned had become something like a game for the monarch. Of course, for the most part, it was a game that Sinbad had no choice but to play with himself unfortunately. Most of his generals knew better than to mess with the one time assassin, with several only serving as onlookers to the disasters it often brought their king. The others, such as Sharrkan or Pisti, only deigned to assist him when there were benefits for themselves as well.
Now though, Sinbad was on his own.
Tumblr media
"It's just concerning that you seem to be in such a state. If I were to leave you in your room would you even be able to sleep?"
Hand brushing through his lavender hair the monarch cocked his head to the side and grinned. "In which case I think I know what will help."
