apparently one of the rd creators said he saw rimmer as ace or that he could be viewed as ace (like as in asexual not Ace ace), either way, I just had to
[ID: Bust drawing of Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf. He is a slim white man with wavy brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a green uniform and waving an ace flag.]

Little more about Rimmer's OCD.
[I've not yet read the third and forth novels, so correct me if needed]
In the novels, he and Yvonne McGruder both like each other a lot but for a long time only smile at each while passing each other in the corridor.
However, eventually they do decide to go on a date. Unfortunately at the time Yvonne was suffering from a concussion after a metal girder had fallen on her head (life on Dwarf will be safe, lol), but she was still determined to go on the date and went anyway.
Apparently they had a good time - a really good time in a turbo lift - even if Yvonne was a little out of things and accidentally called Rimmer, Norman.
Later Lister teased Rimmer, saying that Yvonne didn't really know what she was doing, that it was the concussion.
This teasing triggered a lot of self-doubt in Rimmer and he spiralled. In spite of the fact they had a nice time, he began to doubt his own perception and memories. Suddenly the fact that Yvonne had a concussion and called him Norman was proof she wasn't that in to him and that he had taken advantage while she was concussed.
He fell into shame and doubt and never contacted her for a second date.
Likewise poor Yvonne was doubting her own memories. She felt embarrassed by calling him Norman and began to wonder if they'd been on a date at all. However, she decided to wait to see if he would contact her....but he didn't.
I think this is a sad situation. Yvonne liked Rimmer enough that she went on their date with a head injury rather than stand him up, she clearly liked him a lot. OCD can make you doubt yourself a lot and make you question your perception of events. I think Rimmer may have been happy until Lister triggered the spiral.

I just assume Rimmer's parents gave him a lump of coal for every Christmas.
I also assume that Lister put his knitting/crocheting talents to good use by knitting Rimmer a jumper for Christmas one year.
From this I make the assumption that the gift sent Rimmer into emotional overload. He hated the jumper but he was so touched to have received a gift at all that it made him cry...which made him angry....which made him freeze up as his Light Bee struggled to process all the conflicting emotions...and after that a massive migraine.
Hence why every Christmas he takes some down time alone when the others watch A Wonderful Life together and why he writes overly formal thank you letters to Lister detailing precisely why he both loves and hates him.
Forget Schrodinger's Cat, Lister's Hand Knitted Christmas jumper may or may not be in the box at the back of Rimmer's locker. It's both loved and loathed.
