Dragon accidentally missing the princess by a few feet and grabbing the depressed court jester instead. Landing back in its cave, preparing to go into a laid out speech about how escape is impossible and that she’ll be trapped here forever, but is completely caught off guard when it opens its talons and finds a terrified little thing with bags under her eyes and bells on her hat, whose first instinct is for some reason to try and do a silly little dance to appease the massive creature.

And for some reason, it works!

The Jester’s eyes lighting up as the dragon lets out a genuine and sweet laugh, hiding its face behind massive claws to try and keep up appearances. Doubling down, the jester tells (a rather cheesy) joke and gets another laugh out of the dragon, a smile curling over its sharp teeth, as the jester continues to go down her list of acts, each for the first time being watched by an audience who enjoys her for more than the abuse she can endure, no longer the butt of the joke but the source of laughter. For the first time, the Jester is happy to do what she loves, the shared laughter of two unlikely friends lighting up what was once a dark and dreary cave

There's always been a tension between the different portrayals of Krypton. Sometimes, it's an enlightened society of crystal spires and togas. Sometimes, it's a militaristic society of warmongering fascists.

Reading a book about slavery in the middle-ages, and as the author sorts through different source materials from different eras, I am starting to understand why so many completely fantastical accounts of "faraway lands" went without as much as a shrug. The world is such a weird place that you can either refuse to believe any of it or just go "yeah that might as well happen" and carry on with your day.

There was this 10th century arab traveller who wrote into an account that the fine trade furs come from a land where the night only lasts one hour in the summer and the sun doesn't rise at all in the winter, people use dogs to travel, and where children have white hair. I don't think I'd believe something like that either if I didn't live here.

In my recent game I came across some dialogue from Gale I've not seen before, despite this being my 500000000th romance with this man. So we meet Lorroakan for the first time and convince him that Aylin is dead. Speaking to Gale, I think, ok, he's going to be like "hey what a shit wizard" or "what an arrogant little twat" because we've already seen his rubbish projections and it's Lorroakan, come on. Then Gale says this:

Yes, he falls short of - wait. What? Gale is roasting Lorroakan not for his magical skills. He is incensed by his inability to use multiple sources to verify information.

This absolute nerd is more pissed about having too few citations than the fact that Lorroakan is an amoral little jerk that wants to torturously leech off of an aasimar's soul for his own immortality.
