Chapter 4: Groundwork
Zach wasn't sure what to think of the new addition. He was hard to read, but he seemed nervous. Or, that's what Zach thought at least. Who wouldn't be nervous meeting a new group of people with abnormal abilities?
When Zach pointed him out, the argument had immediately come to a halt. From Tess' expression, Zach could tell that there would be some serious words with Vin later. Zach had pulled up a chair and got the newbie to sit down. Everyone else stood in front of the guy, just staring at him.
"Well", said Zach "What can you do?"
Now Zach was sure the guy looked nervous. He mumbled something that Zach didn't hear.
"Speak up"
"I...um.......don't really know...."
This was followed by another round of yelling.
"He doesn't even know what he can do, for gods sake!"
"How are we sure he's even a super!"
"The government have plenty of tests that can find out if you're a super! They've added things into x-rays to scan for the super gene!"
"Well even if he is a super, we still don't want him!"
"We should have some kind of choice!"
Then the person Zach least expected to jump into the argument jumped in.
"I didn't have a choice either!", shouted Cal, " The government sent me to join a group that saves the world! Instead I find a group that can't seem to go 3 minutes without fighting!"
The rest of the team stood gaping, as Austin patted Cal on the shoulder.
"Well said my friend. Well said"
"Okay, enough of this", declared Zach, " Vin what's the sitch?"
"Ah finally", said Vin, shooting a look at Tess, who was glaring at Cal, " an intelligent question!"
Vin moved up to the table and called up an image of an art gallery, alongside a picture of a rock display.
"The Arkenstone in Dallas was recently broken into", said Vin "the burglar left the more expensive exhibits alone and instead targeted a rock exhibition. They made a giant mess of it, but the gallery's owner can't seem to find what the thief stole.", Vin showed the group a picture of the rock exhibit. The glass cases were smashed and the precious stones were everywhere.
"Of course", continued Vin, " the gallery doesn't know you're coming. Heck, it doesn't even know you exist! So this is a standard break in and search. I'll feed the cameras a loop of the past 10 minutes or so while you guys are in there. Hey Nessa. You ever been to Dallas?"
"Yeah I went there to visit my uncle. He lives a couple of streets away from the gallery. I think I passed it, actually"
"Perfect", said Vin, "So you'll teleport the group there. Then Tess can bring you in. Once you find the room, teleport back out and bring everyone else in. Zach, when your finished, I need you to wipe the place with shadows. Kayla, while they're inside, you need to act as the lookout. Just patrol around the place looking for anyone. Everyone clear on that?"
There was a round of 'yeahs'.
"Okay then. Rest up everyone, you leave tonight"

Chapter 3: First Meetings
Cal didn't know what to think as he headed towards a very mundane building. It was made of brick, just like every single house on the street, all the windows had either blinds or curtains closed over them and the garden was in need of a trimming. This was supposed to be some spy base, but all Cal could think when he saw it was some middle-aged guy, who had no life. He checked the address on his phone for the millionth time, but, surprise, it was still the same as the last 999,999 times. 32 Roundstone Road.
Cal had been standing there waiting for a call to say 'oops we gave you the wrong address!', but it never came. Eventually, he got fed up with this, so he walked up to the door. There was no buzzer or knocker in sight. The only thing that stood out about it was a door mat that said 'Step In!'. Cal stood on the mat to try and look in the door window, but, as soon as he stepped on the mat, he heard a barely audible 'click' and it gave way from underneath him.
As Cal fell he thought 'Well isn't this a creative way to murder someone'. Suddenly, Cal felt something cold grasp his biceps, halting his descent. The thing lowered him down to a platform and then promptly released him. Cal felt about 2 feet, before landing on a metal platform.
Overhead lights flickered to life, revealing a long corridor leading up to a door. As there seemed to be nothing else to do, Cal approached the door cautiously. When he got nearer to it, he started to hear voices from the other side. When he opened the door, his eyes took a minute to comprehend the scene in front of him.
"You can't just announce that we have a new member the day he arrives!!", screamed a girl, with dark hair tied back in a pony, who seemed to have sunken into the ground a bit, at a ginger guy with freckles, who was looking anywhere but at her.
"Why can't you just be happy we have a new member and haven't lost one!?", shouted a girl back at her, with a braid lying across her shoulder, whose sleeves seemed to be pulled up over her hands.
"They're probably a really nice person", suggested a very muscular guy, but probably wasn't heard over the din.
"We don't need a new member anyway!", screamed floor girl.
"Well I didn't ask for a new member! I can't very well say no to the government now can I?!", yelled the ginger guy.
"GUYS!", bellowed a guy, who the shadows seemed to be coalescing around, and then looked at Cal. The force of the look caught Cal off guard. It seemed to say 'should I kill him yet?'. Cal was immediately intimidated, but intrigued at the same time, by this individual, who was decidedly smaller then him. "He's here". It was clear that he called the shots. As soon as he spoke, everyone shut up and looked at Cal.
"Hi", said Cal nervously.
(If anyone lives in 32 Roundstone road, this does not reflect their house. I just looked up towns and Roundstone was my favourite)

Chapter 2: Team Chemistry
Zach looked at all the faces before he stood up and cleared his throat with a cough.
"Sorry Melissa, but I need to use the lavatory"
The chairwoman glared at him as if he was an unwanted virus that she didn't want to be near.
"Of course, Zacharias", she replied in a stiff tone.
As Zach made his way to the door, he felt everyone's eyes on his back and immediately flushed red. He hated being the centre of attention with people he wasn't comfortable with. This meant almost everyone in the room. As soon as Zach shut the door behind him, relief flooded through him. He followed the corridor until he reached the men's bathroom. He entered and conducted a brisk search of the cubicles, before locking the main door. Next, he pulled out what appeared to be a phone. After he switched it on and unlocked it, the device brought up a view of a wall of wires.
"Vin!", shouted Zach.
A red headed guy with freckles bobbed up from the technical mess and looked at Zach.
"Oh hey Z. What's up?"
"Hey Vin. I need a memory clone"
Vin attempted an immitation of Alfred from 'Batman'.
"On its way sir"
A moment later an exact replica of himself stood before Zach.
"Orders?" It said, in a perfect imitation of Zach's voice.
"Go to the board meeting and take notes until it's over. Then go to my house and shut yourself down."
"Orders received" said the replica, and walked out of the bathroom to, hopefully, do as Zach said. Vin's inventions weren't always a 100% reliable.
Zach glanced at the wall of the bathroom. A second later a glowing sphere formed. It glowed briefly before showing the exact same image as on the phone screen.
"Hey Prince of Darkness! C'mon in and join the party!" yelled Vin.
Zach stepped through the portal and into Vin's mess of a lab. Zach couldn't understand how Vin could work there. The whole room was a tangle of wires. The floor had a carpet of them. The walls were covered in the stuff and god help any table or counter top in the place, because Vin had drowned all of them in wires. There was only one relatively clean space that Vin used as a work table. Blue prints were strewn across it, alongside electrical devices in various stages of assembly. Vin and Zach headed to the single door in the room. As they were walking, Zach asked,
"Is anyone else here yet?"
"Nah", Vin replied, as they stepped into the room, "You're the first"
The room they had stepped into was a world away from the lab. For a start, it was practically spotless. It had a round table with a screen in it so you could call up layouts when planning a raid or so you could watch videos when you were eating. There was screens built into each wall of the room. (which made 5 because it was pentagon shaped) There were 6 chairs arranged around the table and a door on the other side of the room.
Just as Vin finished speaking, a girl with dark brown hair, tied back in a plait, and dark brown eyes, shimmered into vision on one of the chairs.
"Actually" said the girl, "He's the second"
"K-Kayla?" Vin stammered, "How did you get in without triggering my sensors?"
"Oh yeah, I did but you were so distracted with that hopper watch that you didn't notice"
Almost as soon as she said that, there was a loud 'pop'. Kayla muttered,
"Speaking of hoppers.."
A girl appeared right on top of the table. She sported rose gold hair that fell just below her shoulders. She held a steaming bowl in her hands.
"Hey guy's," she piped, "did you know that China do amazing spring rolls?"
Kayla sighed,
"Nessa" she said, "did you accidentally teleport to China again?"
Nessa blushed, but was saved from further embarrassment by a very audible 'crash' from behind the door on the other side of the room. Now it was Vin's turn to sigh.
"Austin really needs to learn how to knock"
Kayla beamed.
"I'm gonna scare him. Dont say anything". With that she shimmered out of vision.
A few moments later a guy, with light brown hair that stuck up in a quiff, walked through the door. In his hand he held another door.
He opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by Kayla jumping on his back. Austin dropped the door with a massive 'clang'. Kayla began giggling and Austin reached around behind him and started tickling her. Kayla started to laugh and loosened her grip on Austin's back. Austin knocked her off, spun round and grabbed her in a bear hug. Zach was touched by this until he fell down under a weight
"OhmygodImissedyousomuch", squealed his sister. Zach hugged her tight and then stepped back.
"Hey Tess" said Zach, a massive grin on his face.
"Well" said Austin "our last member has finally arrived. Shall we get down to buisness?"
"Actually" said Vin, a slightly troubled look on his face "as of today we have a new member". Vin used his portable computer to call up an image of a tall guy with maroon hair onto the screens around the room. "His names Calais"

Chapter 1: Boredom
Zach hated meetings. Always had, always would. This particular meeting he was especially dreading because it was a board meeting. They sat at a table for 2 hours talking about things they were never going to do. Zach liked to call them 'bored meetings' as that's the exact way he spent them. Bored.
As Zach walked down the corridor he passed a group of his underlings having a coffee break. He forced a smile. What he'd give to be one of them right now. A few meters behind them was the boardroom. Zach strode in and took his place at the already busy table. The seat at head of the table was empty, but that was normal. The chairwoman would be 'fashionably late' as always.
Zach unzipped his back-pack and took out his documents. He was in charge of the finance department, so he always had to show how their income was doing.
Zach worked for a technology company called 'Scount'. They specialised in high-tech computers and such. Some people might find it cool, but the only perks were free food for lunch. (Zach never ate this because the one time he had, he had to use his sick days and could barely get out of bed for 5 days)
Just then the chairwoman walked in and a hushed silence fell upon the room. Zach despised the woman. She carried herself with an air of authority, expected people to bow down before her and looked at you as if you were some kind of alien if you said something against one of her idea's.
She settled down in her seat with a little sigh. She reached up and plucked her silver rimmed glasses from her golden bob, and started droning on about some government representative coming.
Zach was pondering what he'd have for dinner, when he heard his name being called. He stood up, presented his facts to a sea of extremely bored faces, and sat back down again. Just as he was sitting down, his wristwatch vibrated twice. Zach felt a smile creep onto his face. He was more then ready to leave.
