About Me
My name is Yumiko and I am a fourth year student in Accounting. I was born and raised in Japan and moved to Canada when I was 13 years old to attend school in Belleville, Ontario. One of the main reasons why I came to Canada was that my grandfather used to study in Italy and he went through the same experience of studying abroad. He told me to get out of my comfort zone and see the world while I was young. Ever since then, whenever I’ve encountered a hard time in life I would always go to him for advice because in my family, he was the one I could relate to the most. I’ve always been so curious as to what was so fascinating about Italy that makes my grandfather always says “I seriously want to go back again before I die.”

My Dream Vacation- Italy
My grandfather used to own an Italian restaurant and I grew up eating his food every single day after school. It was my daily after school routine to go to his restaurant after school because it was located just beside my elementary school in Japan. He was the first chef to open an Italian restaurant in Osaka, Japan. He moved to Italy when he was 25 years old and stayed there till he was 30 to master how to cook Italian food. Unfortunately, the restaurant he used to work at closed down but I’m hoping that I can find restaurant that I’m going to fall in love with. When I was little, he used to tell me an abundance of great memories he had about the country, culture, food and people. It was so fascinating to listen to and I have always wanted to visit the place where my grandfather claims he found his soul. Italy is my grandfather’s second home and it completely changed his life. I want to discover the place that my grandfather drew so much inspiration from that he wanted to bring its cuisine to Osaka. Hopefully Italy will affect my life in some positive way and become my third home.

My Partner in Crime
I met Sarah in first year in Saugeen and we lived on the same floor. At I first I thought she was very quiet but I was wrong. Once I got to know her we became really close friends and we’ve been roommates ever since then. Sarah and I share similarities in every aspect, which makes things a lot easier. Sarah is one of the few friends I can vocalize my feelings towards without being judged. She would be a great person to bring along on this trip because I would be more than happy to share this future fun and exciting vacation with my loving roommate and good friend. The country of her dream vacation happens to be the same as mine; which is Italy. I am ready to go on an adventure and I hope she is ready too :D

Inspiration
In university, almost every one of the students I talked to said they wanted to go on a trip to Europe before they graduated. They all had many different reasons for wanting to explore a variety of European countries. To me, the idea of my grandfather living in Italy for a few years gave me hope that I would be able to live on my own in Canada. From this trip, I’m planning on exploring Italian architecture, and to to discover and connect with locals and hopefully learn something new about myself. Also, I am planning on taking a lot of pictures everywhere I go and write down places or restaurants that I would recommend to my family and friends for a future reference. I want to be able to make a collage at the end of trip to make it more memorable!

What Does Tourism Mean to Me On This Trip?
In my opinion, tourism is all about discovery, experimenting with space and time, experiencing, willingness to visit everywhere under time constraints and connecting with locals.
Tourism is also about finding who you are and who you want to become. Visiting new places will inspire you in either a negative or positive way, which will change your perspective and outlook on life completely. You will grow as a person because you have accumulated and absorbed knowledge and memories from the trip.
On this trip, I want to be an explorer and make my own travel and accommodation arrangements. I want to take initiative by going to a variety of different places and stepping out of my comfort zone.

The Budget
The trip I have planned is a 14-day tour of the most beautiful and culturally significant cities in Italy. This includes Venice, Florence, Rome, Milan and many more cities. Sarah and I decided to take the train to the places we are going to visit because the views in Italy are just beautiful so we did not want to miss out. All the hotels are advised from the trip advisor website because I was told that the website provides me with an accurate rating of all the hotels. We’re students therefore we have budgeted money, so here is the breakdown of costs.
Flight Costs: $777
Food Cost: $800
Shopping Money:$500
Emergency Money:$100

In Rome - Hotel Artemide ($162/night)
In Assis- Hotel Ideale ($103/night)
In Florence- Residence La Contessina ($153/night)
In Cinque Terre- Hotel Souvenir ($116/night)
