A month passed since he went to talk to her. Winter was getting closer and their wedding too.

A spring wedding, just like she wanted. March, the begging of spring, a new chapter for the vampire kingdom — after three royal wives, the fourth becomes the queen; a new chapter for them two, marriage after all those years.

Karlheinz wanted a winter wedding, he liked winter better. It was cold and they could go to her home near the borders for the honeymoon, but he will go with her wishes, he will make her happy.

Can he do that anymore? Can he make her happy now? — these are just some of the questions that never left his mind since he returned to the palace.

Not even Dong Hwa helped, they had an awful fight on this subject and haven’t talked since either. The king always found peace and comfort around the older man: uncle Hwa never fought with him, uncle Hwa never belittled him, uncle Hwa always comforted him, uncle Hwa always helped him, supported him, treated him like his own son – the one he never had, Karlheinz was like his son, he was his son. But that wasn’t the case during their last conversation, he got the same look from Dong Hwa that he used to get from his father, and it was dreadful.

Karlheinz felt tired and helpless more and more with each day that passed. He stayed in his chambers most of the time, barely leaving the rooms.

And there he was today, still in bed. It was past noon and the servants came two times with breakfast only to be sent back, he was waiting for them to come for the third time and properly start his day.

Upon hearing the door open, he changed his position from laying to sitting and eyed the windows, not paying attention to his surroundings.

“It is past noon and you haven’t started with the boxes, what stopped you from waking up earlier and getting your work done?”

The voice made him stand up and turn immediately. There she was, there was his dearest Devyn.

The blonde woman looked with little emotion at him, she was still in mourning attire: long sleeved blouse paired with an over the knee skirt – both in black, as usual a pair of stilettos and a brown fur coat that she kept in her arms — a gift from Karl.

“You’re back.”

“Work couldn’t wait anymore. I will continue my mourning here.”

What should he say? What should he ask? Should he get closer or not?

Devyn was the one to get closer. She threw the coat on the bed on her way, looking around the room and thinking what should she say as well.

“You’re behind work, I saw the content inside the boxes earlier.”

“Devyn, let’s not talk about work. It’s been a month– I beg you let–“

“As the future queen of this kingdom, I have to talk about work for the well-being of my people.”

“So you still want us to..”

Devyn nodded and got even closer to him, looking him in the eyes before speaking again. “Yes. I want to marry you.”

Karlheinz said nothing, but got on his knees and hugged her torso. Thankfully for him, Devyn didn’t protested — mainly because she was quite shocked by his actions, instead she started caressing his hair.

“Please tell me you want this out of love… please..”

The blonde looked down at him, their eyes meeting once again as he raised his head to see her.

“I wouldn’t have come back if it wasn’t for my love for you, Karlheinz. I still love you.” she murmured and moved her hand to his face. “I want to be your wife, become queen is just a plus.”

There it was: a smile; she finally smiled to him after all this dreadful time.

“I am deeply sorry for the pain I caused you by committing that crime, my love. Your love and forgiveness is all I need.”

The blonde woman said nothing after that, she offered him another smile and went back to caressing his hair.

Coming back to the palace felt like one last betrayal to Aurora’s love. Karlheinz won again, she chose him, she still loved him, she came back to him.
