7-upilk Shirley Temple

Should it be a Shirley Tempilk? Either way, it's way more vibrant red than I was expecting. The pilk's turned out this distinctly baby pink colour - it had a white foam top when initially mixed, but that seems to have dispersed. I can't smell anything particular from the drink.

Well, it tastes... like something. I feel like I can definitely taste the pomegranate on the initial sip, then there's this creamy cherry, and then it mellows out into... vanilla? But none of the flavours are particularly strong.

7/10. Good taste experience, just a little weak?

It's Friday again, and today I've got

Nestilk Lemon

Yeah, that kinda smells like honey and lemon. Not very strongly, but you can tell it's sort of sweet and citrusy.

It tastes... sort of the same? Very weak honey lemon. The milk mellows out the sharper flavour of the Nestea, and I kinda like that more. I assumed that would mean that a drink with a higher ratio of Nestea would taste stronger, so I made a second one. I'd say it kind of does taste stronger.

6/10. A little better than the Nestea, but the flavour is a little weak - maybe a better ratio could improve it.

Fentiman's Rose Lemonilk

It is sort of pink, and it smells strongly of roses.

The rose flavour is definitely there, but the thickness and slight cheesiness of it makes me think the lemonade curdled the milk.

4.5/10. Best not to try.

J2ilk White Peach & Mango Daiquiri Mocktail

These things are tongue twisters, I swear. It smells sort of like banana and not mango, but that isn't exactly bad.

It tastes very... light? Somehow? Like a really refreshing fruit smoothie. Peach flavour is mild, but there's a really recognisable mango aftertaste. The milk mellows out the sharpness of the original drink.

8/10, I would drink the J2ilk over the regular J2o.

Pilknog

As made by following this recipe in the book "500 recipes for home-made wines and drinks" by Marguerite Patten.

Now it chills in the fridge for a bit.

So, replacing the syrup with pepsi does a few things. First of all, syrup is slightly thicker than pepsi, which means that this drink is currently very thin. It's like pilk but there's secretly an egg in it.

The texture is... odd. It is nice and creamy, and I can definitely taste some sweetness coming from the pepsi. I'd probably describe it as a thicker pilk.

10/10 easily. Probably could put all sorts of flavours in it and it'd be great. Maybe I'll make one with cinnamon.

Tymbilk Apple Cherry

It's a creamy pink colour, and smells like cherry. Specifically almost haribo cherry.

I can definitely taste the cherry in it, but without the tartness - something about it is pretty reminiscent of cherry yoghurt.

10/10, flavour is good and it's very refreshing.

J2ilk Blackberry & Blueberry Martini Mocktail

What a cumbersome name. It's a reasonably purple drink, as you would expect, and I can definitely smell blueberry.

It's got a very unique taste and mouthfeel; there's a very mellow fruit flavour if you let it sit in your mouth for a moment, but as soon as you swallow, this almost citrus-y sharpness comes through and dries your mouth out. Really refreshing to be honest.

10/10, I really like this - really fun taste experience.

On the ninth day of pilkmas, we're making the 100th pilk of the blog - can you believe it? And we're making

Yoo-hoo-epsi

Well, I think it's Yoo-hoo-epsi, because other variations of the name don't sound as appetising. Also, the Yoo-hoo can had this disclaimer saying "contains a bio-engineered food product", which frankly, I don't think I want to know. Anyway, onto this thing. It smells like milk that's had chocolate cereal in it, and a little bit of pepsi. The foam layer has bubbled away as it's sitting here.

...it's a drink! I can give it that. Tastes again like milk and chocolate cereal with the slightest hints of cherry pepsi. The cherry pepsi mostly hits right before the aftertaste, and that aftertaste is just the same cereal taste as before.

6/10? It's... a drink. Not unpleasant, but not enormously pleasant either. I think there's milk solids at the bottom of it.

Schwilk Bitter Lemon

Smellwise, I would say no, not really! The actual soda though, I could really taste that it was a sharper lemon than normal. I suppose maybe the smell is a little more lemony than usual...

She tastes... very lemony. Very lemony indeed. It's a thick sort of drink with a strong lemon flavour which lingers. Rather refreshing, though it might repeat on you.

7/10, good strong lemon flavour, I just don't like drinks that keep coming back.

On the seventh day of pilkmas, my true love made for me

J2ilk Glitterberry

We have a pre-mixing image here because I wanna prove to you all the benefits of mixing your pilks before you drink. This is one you should REALLY do that for. Colour is vaguely purple, and it smells like cherry. Good thing, too, since its flavour is listed as "grape, cherry and spice."

It tastes pretty much like a cherry fruit corner yogurt. I think it's better sipped than taken in full mouthfuls because it allows you to really taste the cherry - the aftertaste can be strange if you drink too much at once. I'm not really picking up the spice, and the grape is so muted it might as well just not be there.

6/10, very reasonable. Not a chugger but reasonably good. Unfortunately, I think the glitterberry j2o is better as is. And all the glitter sank to the bottom.

For the sixth drink of Pilkmas, my true love made for me

Barq's Red Creme Sodilk

I adjusted my camera settings to try and capture how red this thing is, and the picture doesn't even give you half a sense of it. It's vibrant. The smell is definitely like something I've had before - it's not all cream soda, the artificial fruit flavours are like a drink I've pilked before, but I can't remember which. There's also some sort of white foam thats sitting on the top of it. Probably nothing to worry about.

Okay, it's... fruity? And creamy, as expected. The fruit taste is kind of... well, it's artificial, so it's difficult to pick an exact flavour, but I'd say it's like... maybe a Chewits sweet, or a Fruitella? Think of any red berry flavoured sweet, and that's this.

8/10, far less harsh than the soda. Much like the tagline purports, it's good.

On the fifth day of christmas, the pilkman brought to me...

Iced Pineappilk

While it didn't curdle like I expected it to, there's still something kind of... wrong about it. It stinks like wet cat food. The iced pineapple drink is exactly the same, so I suppose it must be a feature and not a bug.

That pineapple taste is slightly off as well. It's... pineapple, yeah, but not... pleasantly so. The taste also lingers in your mouth for way too long. I can't lie to you all - I am not finishing this.

3/10. At least it didn't curdle.

The fourth day of Pilkmas brings us

Mtn. Dilk Purple Thunder

It's not as purple as I expected... but it's a nice colour. The pilk itself is slightly blue, and it smells sweet and artificial.

It's supposed to be plum flavoured, but I think it's a lot closer to melon. The drink also makes you feel like your tongue is drying out.

6/10. Better than the soda, but not by much.

For the third drink of Pilkmas, I bring you

Canada Dry Ginger Alelk

It doesn't really smell of anything, nor look different from regular milk.

The texture is creamy. At first, it doesn't taste of anything, but it definitely has a ginger aftertaste. Not sure how it can manage that.

9/10, overall very pleasant, just kind of wish there was more ginger.

Nuka Colilk Victory

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it's a nice creamy pink colour. The flavour's listed down as "peach mango", which... well I can smell it. Mostly the peach I can smell, actually. Not sure on the mango front.

Ooh, it tastes peachy, yeah! Again, not so sure on the mango, but I can definitely taste like... real peach flavour. I don't really think it's that creamy, but it does taste good. Compared to the actual soda, it's way better. Both don't really taste of mango at all, but the taste is more pronounced in the colilk than the soda.

7/10. Solid improvement on the soda, but I kinda wish I could taste the mango.

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, whatever it is you're celebrating... I have a sacred duty to perform. Welcome to the twelve drinks of Pilkmas 2024. Let's start off reasonable, shall we?

Lemon Pilk

I could definitely smell the lemon from the can, and the pilk has a certain hint of it. It isn't too strong - it reminds me just a little of all the lemonilks I've made.

Tastewise... yeah, it's like lemonilk. You can obviously taste the lemon in it - it's creamy, slightly pepsi on the initial mouthful, with a nice lemon aftertaste. I really can't say anything bad about it.

10/10. This is a high class pilk.

Pilkmas is right around the corner, but that doesn't free me of my regular weekly duty.

Fantilk Exotic

There's this fun little bit at the back of the can that I'm pretty sure reads "NOT FOR EXPORT", but this is most definitely not an English can. Anyway, the pilk is sort of a creamy yellow and red colour. I can't smell anything in particular from it, while the actual can does have a hint of some kind of tropical smell. Mostly artificial.

Taste is... sweet. It hits you almost immediately; cold, sweet, and vaguely fruity. I don't think I can taste any fruit in particular, but if you asked me what I could taste, I'd say "fruit" before anything else. That being said, it's not unpleasant.

7/10. I think I prefer it over drinking straight from the can.
