“Sing? Oh, ah… I guess I can *hic* … try. And… Would you mind going with me, Norma? I am a li’l nervous, ahaha~” he chuckled, his accent changing slightly.
[[ Oh my god drunk Oncie. ]]
Norma looked over at the Once-ler, her own nerves growing in the pit of her stomach at the thought. She wasn’t a singer and she certainly didn’t like performing in front of crowds. The brunette laughed, though nervously before hesitantly agreeing to sing with him. As they slid out of the seat, Norma took a big swig of her beer before shooting Tiffany a glare. As the pair approached the stage, they were presented with a list of songs to choose from. “Well, you’re the new guy. Pick your poison,” she said handing him the list. She knew most of the songs on the list as they were relatively popular songs; she just hoped he picked one where she could fake singing it long enough to not get booed out of town.
“Why don’t we sing, um..” He looked through the list, flipping the pages as his vision blurred slightly. “… This one!”
Guess which song he was pointing to.
Norma nodded her head quickly. “Works for me,” she replied, smiling reassuringly. They made their choice known to the MC and he introduced the pair. “Ladies and gentlemen, Once-ler and Norma!” The pair stepped onto the stage to the sound of the raucous crowd cheering for them, Tiffany hollering Once-ler’s name and Jeremy doing the same for Norma, but the crowd quieted down some as the music began to play.
The Once-ler could barely pay attention to the crowd, but he started singing anyway, and somehow at the right time. He felt like he could barely function with all that alcohol in his system.
When the Once-ler went to sing, Norma was so stunned that he could actually sing pretty well that she missed an entire line of the song herself. However, when a couple people started chuckling, she quickly found her place again, singing along with him. As the song came to a close, the crowd began cheering anew and Norma's face turned bright red at the attention and partially the booze. As they stepped off the stage, she turend to him. "I had no idea you could sing like that! You were amazing!"

Norma smiled, nodding. “Sounds like a good plan to me. I’m glad you’ll be sticking around for a while.” Really, the brunette found him fascinating in many ways. Nothing new ever rolled into town, but here was this guy trying to make his way by selling his invention. She found it admirable, even if she thought the thneed was a bit silly.
As the night wore on, the conversation became easier as the more alcohol was imbibed. Norma was starting her third Guinness when Tiffany and Abe thought it was high time that an impromptu karaoke night was started. (Usually, that was reserved for Wednesday nights, but since the crowd seemed to want it and Abe slipped the owner a twenty, they decided to let them have it.) When the couple sat back down to the chorus of hollers and whoops, they insisted that someone else follow in their footsteps. Tiffany grinned cheekily. “Why don’t you go, Once-ler?”
“Why don’t I do what?” Once-ler asked, a little oblivious to what she was asking. His cheeks and the tips of his ears were fairly red by now from all the alcohol. His speech was also slightly slurred, and he felt slightly light-headed. He wasn’t accustomed to drinking this much.
Tiffany rolled her eyes. “Go sing, silly!” Norma was half-way done with her third Guinness by this point, and was only half paying attention to the conversation at this point. However, hearing that Tiffany was trying to drag the new guy on stage caused Norma to laugh softly. Like that would ever happen!
“If you’re nervous, have Norma go with you!” The brunette stopped laughing for this one. “Oh she is not getting me up there!” she thought, taking another sip of her drink, trying not to glare at her roommate. “Come on, Once-ler! Sing!” the other girl said, grinning, now getting Abe to egg him on as well.

Jeremy and Abe shot each other a look. They had actually hurled tomatoes at the man earlier, but it was somehow awkward to mention that in conversation to his face. At least not without a couple more beers, so Abe took the initiative to call over a waitress as Jeremy fumbled over his words to explain himself. “Well… uh… it certainly is… interesting.”
The middle aged woman smiled to the group, leaning against the back of seat beside Abe’s head. “What’ll ya be having?”
“Oh, can I have a Guinness please?” Norma asked while everyone else placed their orders as well.
“Oh, ah, thanks,” Once-ler grinned, sort of getting the hint that Jeremy wasn’t a huge fan of the thneed, but brushed it off for now.
He then decided to order some ale.
Norma didn’t realize that these “new” people might already know who the Once-ler was if only in that one way. It wasn’t something she was exactly happy about considering they didn’t seem to like it too much. As the waitress came back with their orders and set the drinks down in front of their respective customer, Norma took a large sip of her beer, licking the foam off her lip afterwards. “So, Once, you plan on staying here permanently or are you going to move around to try and sell your Thneed?”
“Hm.. Well, I would like to sell the thneed, but it might be better if I stay in one place for now. Might as well get to know the people first, right?” he asked, chuckling a bit as he looked at the other.

The Once-ler gladly obliged and sat down, thanking the new people for the place to sit with a nod. “To this place, or to the town? Here… Norma wanted me to meet some new people. As for moving to the town.. My family and I were looking for a nice little peaceful place to move, so we thought we’d set up a small house near the Truffula forest, and.. that’s pretty much why I’m here. It really is a nice place so far, from what I’ve seen.”
Tiffany smirked. “Well, wasn’t that nice of her?” she asked rhetorically, looking to Norma, but the said girl decided to ignore her. She was more concerned with something the Once-ler said. “Family?” she ask, confused. She hadn’t seen anyone else in the valley when she went out there earlier, and the cottage that had been set up couldn’t house more than 2 or 3 people at the most.
“Oh, um.. Yeah. My family’s kind of… all over the place. So. They’re not typically with me most of the time.” He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “But.. it seems the forest animals are warming up to me a bit, haha.”
His smile widened a little, thinking of his recent experiences back at the tent.
Norma’s lips tugged themselves into a line, nodding at what he said. Well, here she thought he had moved here on his own, but she supposed that it must be nice to have his family here and meeting new people was always nice regardless, right?
“I know you!” Jeremy spoke up, suddenly, resting an elbow on the table and pointing towards the Once-ler. “You’re the guy who was trying to sell us that thneed-thingy in the town square.”
“Huh? Oh, yeah, that was me,” the Once-ler chuckled with a slight grin. “That was a, er.. pretty interesting experience, I guess. So… You guys actually liked it?”
Jeremy and Abe shot each other a look. They had actually hurled tomatoes at the man earlier, but it was somehow awkward to mention that in conversation to his face. With Norma supervising his antics, the Once-ler turned back to his pan and the bowl of batter he had already thrown together. One very positive thing about the sudden influx of money was he had all the newest kitchen gadgets he could ever want. The batter hissed as he schlopped it on the pan, and whistling the same tune he always did, the young man flipped his pancakes. It was second nature to him, every ingredient and step was a movement in a dance that he had mastered. Even if it was just making a plate of pancakes. “Mind setting the table?” He asked his girlfriend extra sweetly, and with a flick of his wrist, flipped the flatcake.
Now that everything was completed, the small table set and the stack of pancakes steaming, the Once-ler sat down at his assumed chair and eagerly grabbed the fork lying next to his plate. Forking on his plate four heaping pancakes, the man didn’t hesitate to begin eating. The Once-ler tried to focus on his plate, and though he was starving, he couldn’t help but let his mind wander. The Once-ler was a man that wasn’t afraid of change. In fact, he welcomed it. It seemed, however, that the young man was nervous of the sudden changes he would need to make now that he was living with someone; and not just anyone, but his girlfriend. Someone he admittedly was in love with. As he looked up at her, he could see in small ways how she was perhaps nervous too. He would always honour his promise to take it slow, even though their relationship wasn’t in the blooming early stages anymore. It just all seemed so real now, and the more he thought about it, the more his appetite seemed to dwindle.
Maybe she could get used to this. As independent as she was, she knew that everyone needed someone. It had been a long time since she felt like she had a home. Sure, she had places where she lived, but it wasn’t the same. The Once-ler wasn’t her home yet, but maybe, one day, he would be. The thought was, admittedly, scary; saying “I love you” still felt odd on her tongue, though it was certainly not in a bad sense. When he asked her to set the table, she smiled, snapping out of her thoughts, and did as instructed, supposing she should help out. Regardless, the distraction was nice. No sense in worrying about the future; there was nothing you can do about it now, right?
Soon, dinner was ready and the smell that wafted throughout the house was incredible. After he had taken his 4 pancakes, Norma took her one (never having had a big appetite) and dug in. One bite caused her to smile contentedly; there was something comforting about his pancakes. It made her think back to when he “taught” her how to make them, to the times when he whipped some up for their long nights making thneeds. When she looked up to compliment him on the pancakes, she paused, seeing the look on his face. She hadn’t even stopped to consider the fact that this was probably a bit scary for him as well. Hell, she was his first everything so far which she knew only amplified those unsure feelings. Giving him a soft smile, she joked, “Hey, if you don’t watch it, I’m going to eat all of these by myself before you take your first bite.”
