I spent years in the Harry Potter fandom. Those books brought me comfort, joy, and friends from around the world. I spent countless hours reading, watching the films, attending the cons, and creating art and community online and off. My life wouldn’t be the same without Harry Potter. For all those reasons, I wish I could be excited about the @hbomax TV show - but I can’t.

We do not want this show. JKR’s anti-trans rhetoric is helping fuel a movement that is getting trans people harassed, alienated, and killed. Creating a Harry Potter TV now adds legitimacy and support to her hateful, harmful, wrong beliefs.

We will not watch this show. Fans have written an open letter to HBO telling them to cancel the show. I hope you’ll read it, and join me in signing to say HBO, No: Don’t Platform Transphobia!

I NEED ASSISTANCE!

Sooo the main reason why I don't post so much on this blog is because I'm in school. Currently I'm taking an Intercultural Communications class and I need to interview someone who is Maori. (I wrote about Maori for last week's essay and I need to do an interview with someone from the culture I did the essay on.) I will need to do with a call (willing to do Zoom, Skype, or Messenger, but I'd prefer not showing my face and will respect you not showing yours) and there's a slight chance my professor will email you but it's just to make sure you really did talk with me. I live in a rural area in Idaho and there's no Maori population here. It's due Sunday and a huge part of my grade. I'm actually growing super frantic, PLEASE someone help me. 😅 I'm trying in other avenues but no luck so far.

Sorry but this is too important

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.

On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.

Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.

But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.

What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.

Okay, I’d just like to make a point.

I hear a lot about being “inclusive” in writing– and more about people being “exclusive”, and I’d like to offer a thought on that.  Sure, inclusivity is good.  Representation is good.  But it’s not the point.  The story is the point– and it shouldn’t be bound by politics if that wasn’t meant to make a political statement.

Frankly, it upsets me when people get angry because a story “isn’t inclusive enough”.  Just because a story doesn’t have/center on minority characters doesn’t mean it’s a bad story.  It doesn’t mean you have to (or should!) give the writers heck for not “being inclusive!”  Because maybe, just maybe, that’s not the point of the story!

Example– although I myself am female, my current project centers on a main character who is male.  That doesn’t in the slightest mean that I am against female main characters, or that I am too close-minded to accept a female protagonist.  It means that my story centers around a specific character and his story, regardless of his gender or race or whatever the heck.

It’s one thing if a story misrepresents a people group.  It’s a completely different thing if a story doesn’t happen to represent every type of person that’s out there.  It’s not a sin to write a story with a white, straight, male protagonist.  And writers shouldn’t have to worry that they’ll have people attack them because their story happens to not represent a certain group.

I’m not saying inclusivity is bad.  I’m not saying misrepresentation is good.  What I’m saying is, it feels like a lot of people are missing the point.  Not every story is meant to take a political view for or against different people groups.  At their core, a story should be about its characters and their journey– regardless of who those characters happen to be.

I fear this is one way that Tumblr culture has fallen, and it bothers me quite a lot.  One example is, lately I’ve seen a lot of people saying “make x character gay, you cowards!” and I just… I know some of you may be kidding, but did you stop to think about how the writers might feel if they saw that?  What if that’s just not the vision that they had for that character?  They have plans for this character and his/her development, and now they’re being personally attacked and called a coward for following through on their vision!

Please stop and think about that for a moment.

I write because I have a story to tell– a vision in my heart that I want to share with others, and I believe that’s of paramount importance.  I’ve seen many great stories fall because they caved to people crying for them to be “inclusive” instead of staying true to who they created those characters to be.  Yes, inclusivity can be good– but it also can be very, very bad if it causes people to force their characters into roles they were never meant to fill!  Characters may not be real people, but they are meant to reflect real people– good characters are rounded and have unique personalities and characterizations.  A good character should reflect traits found in real people.  If you wouldn’t advocate for your friend to change a part of who they are, why would you badger writers to make a character undergo that same change?

It’s fine to have headcanons.  But please, please, please don’t try and force those headcanons on the writers!  Writers have ideas of their own, and you never know what they might be planning or where they may take a character.  Badgering them may just lead them to grow depressed– it may make them take their writing as a burden.  And believe me, that will cause their content to suffer– not to mention how it may affect them personally!  So please– think carefully about how you treat writers, their stories, and their characters…

MC:SM Mafia Round II, a christmas special, is over!

Seven guests had a very hungry christmas... This was a fun round, since we were able to play out some gameplay elements that haven’t been around before - like STEALING!!

Prolog:

It was a stormy christmas evening when seven travellers got caught in a heavy storm while joining a christmas tour. Luckily, their tour guide was prepared and brought a map and a compass. She told the group that they would seek shelter in a big, unoccupied and totally weatherproofed mansion and have a christmas dinner. Of course everyone was keen on that idea, so they followed her lead.

Just as they arrived, a horde of zombies approached from nowhere. Maybe they have been lured by the light of the torches the group was holding to keep themself warm? Well, they sure are lucky to enter the mansion just in time!

But then, something happened... something very unusual.

Your tour guide asked you to wait a minute in the entrance hall. So you waited... warmed up, brushed the snow away from your pet's fur. And then-

"IT IS DINNER TIME!", said someone who sounded like your tour guide, but kinda deeper and way creepier. With that, dinner came.

It was like a snowball fight, but way more unfair. White pumpkins dropped from the ceiling, fell over your heads and disturbed your view. You may think they're for food, but they weren't. As you tried to take a bite, you realized that these heavily food-coloured goodies are totally stuck on your heads with a binding curse!! You're gonna starve, oh no!!!

But as if that wasn't enough already, you at once feel like there was an evil santa in the house... who would dye his coat with the red of your blood.

Innocent tourists, it is time.

Night #1

Sea thought of making cookies in the kitchen, but they got scared as it became dark and decided to go and sit still in the corner, until dropping off.

Punkin went into the library, despite not really being a book fan, and used a few books to make themself a blanket! It was a peaceful atmosphere to sleep, sourrended of only books and traps.

Multi explored the gallery, examined the traps, and decided that the attic actually might be a safer place to sleep.

Ducky stayed a little while to guard the front door with Wink, but then realized that the real danger might not be outside, but here... so they went upstairs to the attic, hoping to sleep in relatively safety.

SIOW-Drake was still busy brushing snow out of Lluna's fur in the entrance hall. It took an eternity until it was clean as a whistle. Being very sleepy, they went to the library room because why not.

Sparks tried to look innocent and went to the attic while sending Winslow to the dining room, but there was nobody in either of the rooms. So they just went to cuddle their cat.

Ninja decided to play it cool in the entrance hall, but eventually they got bored and hit the hay in the attic.

Day #2

Ducky and Punkin have been sent to the closet to be guarded by Sea.

Night #2

Sea poked their prisoners constantly, not granting a single minute for sleep.

Punkin didn't mind it too much.

Multi disarmed the traps in the library, despite nobody else being in the room. Everything to keep their pet... err, robot safe. Well, considering, it wasn't the stupidest thing.

Ducky did not appreciate having no privacy in the poky closet, and being kept awake.

SIOW-Drake was eager to not fear death and went to the dining room because ATTIC IS MAINSTREAM! Also, of course Cassie wouldn't suspect that...

Sparks entered the secret passage way in the kitchen and set off traps in the living room, the bed chamber and the library. And then they snuggled their cat.

Ninja, feeling pretty excluded from all the happenings, slept safe and sound in the attic.

Day #3

Punkin has been sent to the closet to be guarded by Ninja.

Night #3

Sea desperately searched the kitchen for some food, but could only find more pumpkins... so they had to go supperless to bed again.

Punkin slept soundly... with a lot of sound.

Multi was too tired to mind the traps this time and went straight to the dining room to sleep. They fell asleep pretty quickly... but awoke all of a sudden, when they found themself in some kind of hidden basement. Cat hair everywhere... they couldn't breathe... oh my gosh, what was that!? Three cats came closer, encircling them... and another one... and another one... seriously, how many cats are there!? They kept getting more and more... Multi blacked out... and lost their mind.

Ducky played it safe and went to the attic to rest safer alone. Well... despite Winslow. They poked him, but the kitty only hissed haughty at them and jumped into a dark corner.

SIOW-Drake decided to have a good slumber party with Lluna in the bed chamber, true under the motto "enjoy every day of your life as if it was the last one!".

Sparks followed Multi to the dining room, waited for them to fall asleep, then sneaked up on them, gagged and fettered them, dragged them into the secret basement and let the nine calico cats do the rest.

Ninja had to withstand Punkin's snoring a whole night... seriously, at this noise, they couldn't have fallen asleep if they tried to.

Day #4

Ducky has been sent to the closet to be guarded by Punkin.

Night #4

Sea did their usual thing and slept in the kitchen - in the corner.

Punkin toyed with the idea to deviously kill their prisoner in the closet... but in the end they brought reason to bear, since everyone would get suspicious at them, knowing they did it.

Multi cluelessly went to the bed chamber to have a good sleep... then woke up in the middle of the night, with a punding in their forehead and a strange flickering feeling in their fingers. It was like pain... like hunger manifested into pain in their hands. They had to move them... they had to... strangle someone with them... But in the end, there was nobody in the room, so they instead (somehow) strangled their own hand, until dropping off.

Ducky appreciated Punkin letting them sleep in the closet, being naive about judging this blood-admirer...

SIOW-Drake went up the ladder to the attic, but was paranoid all along, and so decided to flee to the bed chamber and have a slumber party again - however, not before swiping Ninja's Miss Butter!

Sparks kinda stayed in the entrance hall to keep an eye on the pets of the prisoners. But they eventually got bored, and thus followed their cat to the attic - to cuddle them. They really couldn't wish for a better pet.

Ninja decided to be a sneaky evil witch again and planned to KILL SIOW-Drake - but got their sword stolen before they could do it! DANG LLUNA!!!

Day #5

Not much happened... Punkin wanted to ninja-kick Sea outta the door, but then got suspicious at Ninja. But there were not enough votes to do anything.

Night #5

Sea has apparently decided to spend the rest of their existence in the corner in the kitchen. It's a trusty place.

Punkin went to the library, to read. Yes. The suffering from hunger has driven them so crazy that even reading becomes a less unbearable option. They kept reading until fainting of hunger and boredom.

Multi stayed in the bed chamber to again wake up in the middle of the night, with the same killing urge as yesterday. But nobody was there, so they strangled their other hand and continued sleeping.

Ducky climbed up to the attic, feeling extremely unsafe around his roommates, but decided to go to sleep anyway.

SIOW-Drake met Punkin in the library again, but didn't care when they said "baaaaaa". They went to sleep, completely ignoring Punkin.

Sparks realized that their cat-victim is pretty unaffective and the people must all be hiding in the attic, so they went there and took matters into their hands. They waited for everyone to fall asleep, then sneaked up onto Ninja and bloodthirstily murdered them. It was misfortune that Wink was in the room and barked everyone awake to see the murder, but Sparks hoped to be able to defend themself in the morning, claiming Ninja as a Cassie-suspsect.

Ninja was still EXTREMELY UPSET ABOUT HAVING MISS BUTTER STOLEN, and was still resenting Lluna a long time before falling asleep in the attic. What they didn't know, was that someone was getting annoyed at them for not falling asleep already... and KINDA BRUTALLY MURDERED THEM.

Day #6

Ducky claimed to know who the murderer is – Sparks. They didn't give a clear justification, but Sparks themself admitted it, explaining that everyone was talking about how Ninja could be the killer, and that they were just paranoid and stupid. Sea didn't trust Ducky's word entirely, but agreed to throw Sparks out anyway. However, they were short one vote, so the expulsion was blocked. So Ducky instead volunteered to lock Sparks into the closet and watch them warily.

...Also, Sea suggested to keep a positive spirit. However, a certain angry ghost wasn't very delighted about that.

In a very unexspected moment, all the glowstone lights suddenly broke - coldness and insecurity crept in. Then, out of the darkness, a red spirit emerged, with angry looks, hissing and puffing. They didn't leave before making a mess in the attic, whispering "Lol. have that suckers >:3", and letting furniture in the dining room float. "Floaty as a boat." When they finally disappeared into nirvana, a note slid to the ground. "I will be back sweeties!"

Oh Sparks, what have you done!?

Night #6

Sea sang the song of the lonely people in the kitchen.

Punkin hid themself in the library, but hmmmd at the appear of the other people and slipped away into the kitchen.

Multi hoped to be able to keep others safe by going to the library - to find almost EVERYONE there, of course. They tried to warn everyone, but SIOW-Drake decided to yolo again. But, as predictable, Multi wasn't able to sleep the night through... they woke up... with the urge to strangle, to kill. They cried out loud, tried to stop themself, stop their hands, but they had no controll. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. After they did it, they blacked out... only to wake up with blood on their hands. They panicky looked around, but - there was no dead body. It had disappeared... and Multi didn't know how.

Ducky was merciful enough to only poke Sparks all night, until dawn.

SIOW-Drake were creeped out about Winslow, so they stayed in the opposite corner of the room. Tough luck, it wasn't Winslow who would creep up on them to maybe harmlessly claw at them... but a psychopath with a blank stare, who would fricking strangle them with bare hands. AND THEY DEFINITELY SAW WINSLOW GRIN IN THE SHADOW...!

Sparks made puppy eyes at Ducky to try to convince them not to kill them. After all, they knew they still had hope. It was all up to their cat-victim...

The Last Day

After loads of discussions and guesswork, Ducky, Sea and Punkin were determined to eliminate the only suspect left who didn't have a pet: Sparks.

After the sun had set, Ducky commanded their dog to track down and destroy Sparks. Sadly, Wink was a kid-friendly dog, so he only barked loudly when he found Spark hiding in an undiscovered corner of the attic, cuddling Winslow. Sparks tried to flee, but already failed at standing up, as they were mega tired. Punkin and Ducky took their swords out, but needn't capture Sparks, as they wouldn't run anywhere. So Punkin instead carried them, while Ducky's dog frightened Winslow far away.

Punkin carefully layed Sparks down, who had fallen asleep, and dragged them to the middle of the dooryard to leave them to their fate.

While the zombies approached, Sparks muttered in their sleep... "Never gonna give you up... Never gonna let you down... Never gonna escape this hell or, burnnnn you!" ...Weird sleeper.

Anyway, the zombies finally- wait. Oh no. This strange red light, isn't that- w-what, sudden darkness- OH MY GAWD, NINJA IS BACK, DESPERATING FOR A GHOSTY REVENGE!!! They shoved the zombies away with an invisible shield, to have Sparks entirely for themself. Ninja then consumend Sparks soul... this is everything we need to know...

This night, nobody slept well. Soooo huuuuungrrryyy.... After starving for almost an entire week, it was a surprise that they were able to sleep at all. Anyway, at least the blizzard is over, it seems... so the zombies burned to death. Wait, what do you say, we could eat the rotten flesh? EWW, nooo way, I PREFER STARVING THEN!!

What a hungry christmas... Also, consider: Not even the zombies could have dinner, as they were shielded away from Sparks! So they wouldn't even have much meat on them. This was a lose-lose for everyone!!

Days lasted: 7 Deaths: 2 Survived: Sea, Punkin, Multi, Ducky.

Why did you/they decide to make Mcsm episodes release on Tuesdays? On Tuesdays I have school, so I can only start playing on the weekends (Saturday or Sunday) and usually before I get to play, I always see spoilers, either on recommended video titles on YouTube or on Instagram. Sorry, I’m just wondering why you chose to release them on a Tuesday.😊💕💕

So interesting history lesson! Up until 1992, video games didn’t have “release dates” - they just sort of started arriving in stores whenever they got there. But Sega wanted to make sure that the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, was a HUGE event so they decided to try and actually set a release date, just like movies had.

They decided to do it on a Tuesday as that was the day that albums released in music stores, but also because they could make it a pun and call it Sonic 2sday.

It was such a huge success, other video game companies followed suit and, ever since, Tuesday has just always been the traditional day of the week to release new video games.

hi eric! i was thinking about the portals of mcsm in season 1, and especially the opening sequence of episode 7, when we see jesse, lukas, petra & ivor portal-hopping everywhere to find their portal. and it made me wonder -- do you know how long were they stuck in the hallway, away from home? i'm curious about that C':

Hewwo there! The joke internally had been that they were lost in the portals between episodes 6 and 7 for the same amount of time that it took for episode 7 to come out after episode 6, haha. So like 6 weeks?
