vane is so good I love vane, vane really is the heart of the dragon knights, vane is the emotional center without vane they’d all be so far gone already. vane is the only one of them who’s actually in touch with his feelings and doesn’t view them as something he has to set aside to be a good knight. vane laughs and cries and yells with all his heart because like, who is he if not his feelings? that’s his big strength he comforts people by laughing in the face of adversity and he can tell when people are speaking genuinely because everything about his personality is just raw enthusiastic emotions. his profile says his dislikes are logical discussion he does everything based on feelings and the few times he gets real mad are either when something directly threatens people he cares about or when someone tries to make executive decisions without considering the feelings of the people involved. that’s where where most of his initial conflict with percival came from because percival talks big about making the logical decision even though he’s just as much of an overemotional fool who can’t stand the ‘logical decision’. 

vane’s the only knight who doesn’t try to set his own feelings aside for some greater good cause that’s just a stupid ass idea to him, if he sets aside his feelings there’s nothing left of him so he’s not going to do that. he absolutely tries to help people when he comes across them but he’s not an idealist, he doesn’t lie awake toiling about how he can change the world cause that’s just not the scale he lives at. vane doesn’t center his identity around being a knight who saves people, vane centers it around being a big cheerful dude who loves to cook and will remember your anniversary if you happen to mention it in passing. vane didn’t become a knight dreaming of saving the world vane is a knight cause he wants to be able to help the people in front of him. siegfried helps by slaughtering invading armies and lancelot helps by reorganising the system from the ground up and percival helps by creating a brand new utopia and vane helps by carrying you on his back when you can’t walk anymore. it’s almost laughably small-scale next to the other knights but that’s exactly what’s needed to ground them before they lose their head in the clouds or between the corpses on the battlefield or whatever. vane doesn’t give a shit about the grand scheme, carrying someone when they can’t walk is also helping and it’s exactly what he’s going to do.

that’s why vane’s the only knight who can look at siegfried and not feel inadequate. vane can just be overcome with excitement about how cool siegfried is same way he’s overcome with all his feelings. to lancelot and percival siegfried is this unattainable goal to chase after because siegfried seems to be able to do the impossible and what they want to achieve is exactly that, but because vane has no unattainable goals he can look at siegfried doing his thing and just go “damn, that’s cool as shit” without feeling like he has to be able to do the same. even if he did want to be like siegfried he would do so without ignoring his own feelings the way siegfried does and lancelot and percival try to, because vane is his feelings. vane’s not perfect and definitely has some insecurities about being a big loud impulsive oaf next to composed tactical genius captain lancelot but it doesn’t consume him. vane knows damn well who he is. he knows his own strengths and that those are different from lancelot’s and it’s not like he wants to do exactly what lancelot does anyway, he just wants to get to stand next to his childhood friend. 

vane’s only human. vane is very human. vane is extremely, overwhelmingly human. vane is 100% unfiltered unabashed human power with no need for the power of a dragon(slayer) whatsoever. vane’s emotions can move mountains and kill dragons. vane’s love for his friends can topple empires and bring gods to their knees. vane’s chest is so big because otherwise there would be no room for his humongous heart.
