Ramadan During the COVID-19 Pandemic #Ummah #Muslum #hadith #Sunnah
Ramadan During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Ramadan is a special time for Muslims in France and across the globe. It is a time for families and friends to gather for suhoor meals, iftar meals, and taraweeh prayers at night. With all the gatherings among friends and family, kids also find Ramadan to be an exciting month full of cheer and celebration.
However, this year Ramadan will be quite different for all. Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, many countries have gone into lockdown banning all religious gatherings. Moreover, strict curfews and social distancing directives have also been enforced within localities to contain the spread of the COVID-19 disease, thus, curtailing many family traditions and rituals that are usually followed during Ramadan.
Restricted gatherings and having to be indoors during the month of Ramadan is undoubtedly going to be a whole new experience to adults and kids alike. Regardless of the current crisis, Muslim families are finding various ways to keep the Ramadan spirit alive.
Here are five simple ways to keep the Ramadan spirit alive and make the maximum out of this Ramadan:
Salah with family
Masjids have been asked to be closed and no congregational prayers will be conducted this Ramadan. This is of course upsetting but should be strictly followed due to the highly contagious COVID-19 disease. However, instead of offering salah alone, members within a household can pray together to earn more rewards from Allah during Ramadan. This will not only increase the rewards earned but will also strengthen the bonding between family members.
Prepare iftar meals together as a family
Although we are unable to go out and have delicious iftar meals this year, we can try them at home together with the family. There are many recipes available on the internet; pick and choose a recipe and try them out with family members. Even kids can be involved in iftar meal preparation. For this, you can choose simple kid-friendly recipes as well.
Allocate a family time to watch religious programs
Ramadan is a holy month and therefore we must try to make most out of it to earn the blessings of Almighty Allah. Set a time during the day or at night to watch a sermon given out by an Islamic scholar together as a family. If you have kids, you can even substitute this time to watch cartoons or movies that narrate various Islamic stories such as stories of Prophets.
Allocate time for recitation of the Quran
Just as you've set a time for watching a religious program together as a family, you can also set a time to recite Quran together. Each member of the family can take turns and recite parts of the Quran while others listen to the recitation attentively. This time can also be used to engage in remembrance of Allah (dhikr). Parents with little children can engage in dhikr by chanting phrases such as Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahuakbar.
To this session, you could also add some time to make du'a—to ask Allah for forgiveness, to ask Allah for protection from various illnesses and diseases, to increase barakah in our lives, and everything else you need. This will also be a good exercise to introduce young ones to the concept of making du'a.
Allocate time to talk to friends and family
With the advancement of technology, reaching out to those miles apart is quite simple and can be done right from the comfort of your home. Together as a family, you can allocate time to speak to grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends to exchange greetings and to check on their well-being. This will yet again help strengthen bonds among family and friends and teach kids the importance of maintaining these relationships.

For an amazing duration, Muslims accept that Muhammad kept on having disclosures until before his demise in 632 AD.[1] The Quran as it is known in the present, was first arranged into book design by Zayd ibn Thabit and different copyists under the primary caliph Abu Bakr Siddique and afterward recompiled at the hour of the third caliph Uthman ibn Affan for normalization as the Islamic Empire had reached out to remote bringing about varying recitation of the Quran.

Hajj in this epidemic situation of coronavirus
Hajj and its importance
In the season of Hajj, a lot of Muslims make them prepare to gather in Makkah. Everyone wishes to be present in Allah’s house in this sacred season. Allah Subhanhau Watalla says in the Holy Quran:
“ And Pilgrimage to the House is binding upon men for the sake of Allah, (upon) everyone who can afford the journey to it; and whoever disbelieves, then surely Allah is Self-sufficient, above any need of the worlds.”
Ref: Surah Al Imran, Verse # 97
On another place:
“ And complete the Hajj or Umrah in the service of Allah”
Ref: Surah Al Baqarah verse # 196
This is how Allah has ordered his creation to perform hajj and made it obligatory for the one who can afford the journey once in a life. Hazrat Ibrahim (a. s) has also opened up the invitation for the Hajj and then the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) has also renewed it. Let us see some ahadith regarding hajj obligation.
Hadith:
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu Anhu) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) says while addressing to the people one day: “O people! Allah has prescribed Hajj upon You, so perform it.” A man among people: “will it be every year, O messenger?” and he repeats his question three times. Then holy prophet (peace be upon Him) said: “if I had replied you: Yes, it can be a yearly obligation for you and you can’t afford to perform every year” And the prophet asked to leave Him alone
Hajj is the basic pillar of Islam:
Among the five pillars of Islam, Hajj is considered as the basic pillar. (Sahih Al Muslim & Sahih Al Bukhari)
A great reward:
Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrated: the holy prophet told when someone asked: “What kind of deed is best?” He said: “faith in Allah and prophet,” He asked: “what after that”, He replied: “Jihad”, he asked: “what is next?” He replied: “Hajj e Mabroor”
Ref: Sahih Muslim & Sahih Bukhari.
Hajj in this epidemic situation of coronavirus
Due to coronavirus, Saudi authorities suggested the travelers not to come and stopped them to visit Makkah. There are more chances that the Hajj will be canceled this season and will be delayed. In 1918, when they faced the flu pandemic this step was not taken. But to the seriousness of coronavirus disease, it is necessary to take this step. Let us see how hadith guide us in this situation?
Hazrat Ayesha (Radia Allahu Anhu) narrated that she asked the holy prophet (peace be upon Him) about the plagues, He replied: “They are a punishment which Allāh sends upon whomsoever He wills, but Allāh has made it mercy to the believers. Anyone who remains in a town which is plagued with an epidemic, remaining patient and anticipating Allāh’s reward, while firmly believing that nothing will befall him other than what Allāh has preordained for him, then he will receive a reward of a martyr.”
Usama Sharik narrated that the holy prophet (peace be upon Him) said: “Servants of Allāh! Make use of medical treatment, for Allāh has not made any disease without creating a cure for it.’
Usama Bin Zaid narrated that the holy prophet (peace be upon Him) said:
“If you hear of plague inland do not enter it; and if it breaks out in the land where you stay, do not leave.”
So, hadith says it is better to stay in your home town. Because there are more chances of spreading this disease through gatherings. To avoid gatherings is the best way to save yourself. One beautiful hadith says:
Abu Musa Al Ashári narrated that the holy prophet (peace be upon Him) says:
“When a slave of Allāh suffers from an illness or goes on a journey, he is credited with an equal reward of whatever good works he used to do when he was healthy or at home.”
So, we can earn the same level of reward by staying at home.
