Reflection
The group project has enabled me to contribute to the group, showing my own personal strengths, as well as our teamwork skills. Deciding on a theme was one of the first things we did collectively. I feel the start of our project was slow, as we were all getting to now each other and were apprehensive to speak. We chose the theme 'ILLUSION' as we wanted to investigate something that could be perceived in multiple ways; through the exhibition space, the artworks within, and the viewers individual perspective. After the construction of the model, we decided on a set narrative, where the gallery space was in fact an old factory which had been converted. Hence the gallery name, The Old Factory. We also named the address as Digbeth, which is a local art scene with places very similar in old, converted buildings. This is all something we are familiar with and could relate to.
The idea developed further with the aid of our research, into art spaces and artists we could use as inspiration. It fully flourished after the construction, and the model was painted and all the artworks were included. At this point, we had split into three groups - construction, graphics, and art work making.
Our graphics work, which I was a part of, includes a simple geometric shape design, inspired by typographer and graphic designer, Rylee. The layout includes an op-art pattern. This worked well in black and white, and we later developed several colour variations which coincide with the exhibition. We have also included an edited exhibition statement to the reverse of the flyer, which gives further information and details about the show.
Our group organisation, I feel, would be something for us to work on and could have been better. Because of this I think various things were left for myself and others to pick up on when others didn't pull their weight in the group. Our greatest challenge has been overcoming absences, as several group members have consistently been away. Though they sometimes continued with their work, it did put us behind in the development of our model. Regardless of this, those of us who were consistently present worked as a team among ourselves to ensure the project and our development continued to flow smoothly. I feel that key to our progress was communication, which for the entirety of the project we did externally via a group chat. This proved very successful in the long run, meaning we could also share photos of development and documents, that were then all in one place for everyone to access. This also meant that we could contact those who were absent from our timetabled sessions.
Reflecting as an individual, I have learnt how important communicating is when working as a group. Whether through our group chat o in person you need to have an active relationship with those in your group to be able to maintain the momentum to progress within the project. I also found that splitting into smaller groups of twos and threes when completing several elements at once ensured everyone had a job within the group at all times, and made for good time as all areas were being addressed. We could all refer back to the group as a whole hen making final decisions and this meant we were all collectively involved in decision making throughout.
If we were to do the project again I would make sure we were organised from the start, as I think we could have gotten underway with our development sooner if we had been more organised. I think this was due to us all feeling we couldn't name ourselves as the leadership role. Possibly finding someone who was happy to take on an extra responsibility as a leader early on would have made for a more successful group. As a group we shall all contribute to the presentation, which shall expand on the point I have made above, and talk about our progress in more detail as well as our successes and failures along the way. We shall also all say a small piece about our own contributions regarding the smaller groups we split into. The PowerPoint I made consists of everyone's photos of our development and I referred back to the group for their ideas when putting the presentation together.
COME AND SEE THE ILLUSION.

The reverse side of our flyer that I made. This also rounds off the graphics work. I have used part of the exhibition statement, as well as including familiar organisations to create the impression of the gallery having sponsors. Having also listed our names, the address on the front, an contact information it gives the impression the exhibition is going to be successful, and real.

With the exhibition space now complete, we have photographed the final model ready to show in our group presentation. The following photos show off the exhibited work in our exhibition, 'ILLUSION'. (1/6)

Along with the practical development, myself, Sophie and Alice have made some new variations of the flyer. With plans to possibly make I double sided, here are some colour variations of our design.
We have also finalised the exhibition information - THE OLD FACTORY, 17TH MAY 2018, 6PM-8PM, GIBB ST, BIRMINGHAM, B9 4AA.
